The general polyol methods used for synthesizing copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) usually require high temperatures to ignite the reduction reaction, which leads to the difficulty of controlling the particle size. Herein, a new polyol method for the size-controllable synthesis of CuNPs at low temperatures by adopting high-pressure hydrogen as the reductant is verified. It is proven that hydrogen is capable to reductively produce CuNPs at temperatures as low as 120 °C. The size of the CuNPs can be controlled between 19.29 nm and 140.46 nm by adjusting the hydrogen pressure, the reaction temperature, and duration. An empirical relationship between temperature and particle size is proposed. This work verifies a low-temperature strategy to synthesize nanoparticles with good size-controllability.

Cu nanowires (NWs) have been a research hotspot in the field of metal NWs because of their excellent electrical conductivity, optoelectronic properties, mechanical properties and low price. However, the instability of Cu NWs leads to the loss of conductivity, which largely limits their application in optoelectronic functional devices. Here, we propose an aqueous-phase synthesis method for the direct synthesis of Cu@Au composite NWs. Cu@Au NWs/Poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) flexible transparent conductive films (FTCFs) were prepared through vacuum filtration of Cu@Au NWs. The stability tests of Cu@Au NWs/PET FTCFs were performed, and the results showed that the resistance of the Cu@Au NWs/PET films remained stable within 60 days, which was much better than that of the Cu NWs/PET FTCFs. The conductivity and transmittance of the Cu@Au NWs/PET FTCFs remained high stability after 10,000 bending cycles. To expand the applicability of Cu@Au NWs/PET films in electromagnetic shielding, the softer Cu@Au NWs/Poly (L-lactic acid) (PLLA) FTCFs were prepared via spin-coating process, and the film with a square resistance of 5 Ω/sq displayed excellent electromagnetic shielding performance with an electromagnetic shielding efficiency value of up to 32 dB in the X-band.

To overcome the efficiency limitations of cuproptosis in oncology, we engineered a piezoelectric Cu-loaded Bi4Ti3O12 nanosheet system for synergistic cuproptosis and ROS-mediated tumor therapy. The incorporation of Cu2+ not only enhanced the material’s piezoelectric coefficient (d33 = 22.3 pm·V–1) but also facilitated valence-state modulation under ultrasound (US) stimulation. The resulting piezoelectric field significantly promoted charge separation, accelerating Cu2+/Cu+ conversion and boosting reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation. This strategy synergistically induces tumor cell death through a dual tumoricidal pathway: on one hand, the accumulation of Cu+ under US stimulation further amplifies cuproptosis, and on the other hand, the continuous accumulation of ROS triggers excessive oxidative stress. In a murine breast cancer model, this synergistic approach achieved a 90.6% tumor inhibition rate. This study pioneeringly combines piezoelectric material properties and copper valence transformation, providing insights for breast cancer treatment.

The high dependence of the photovoltaic industry on the precious metal Ag has exacerbated its resource shortage and cost pressure, and there is an urgent need to develop low-cost, Cu-based alternative materials. In this study, the construction of a Cu@Ag core–shell structure is realized through the interface regulation strategy driven by glutamic acid (Glu) coordination, which effectively synergizes the high electrical conductivity of Cu and the antioxidant advantages of Ag. Combined with molecular dynamics simulation and electrochemical analysis, the three-stage process of adsorption–displacement–reduction of Ag layer growth is revealed. On the basis of this, according to the differences in the surface interface properties of different dimensional Cu-based materials, the “high-activity edge-selective passivation” (2D) and “dual-complexant gradient adjustment” (3D) strategies are adopted to optimize the coating path of the silver layer, so as to realize the multidimensional Cu@Ag core–shell structures. Finally, material performance characterization shows that the multidimensional Cu@Ag core–shell structure can significantly inhibit the oxidation of Cu nuclei. This study provides a new solution for the design of low-cost and high-performance materials in the fields of photovoltaic conductive pastes and flexible electronics as well as a new idea for interfacial engineering and large-scale preparation of multidimensional heterostructures.

Low carrier concentration and mobility have been the primary obstructions to improving the electrical transport properties of BiCuSeO thermoelectric oxides , particularly for excessively low carrier mobility , heavily impeding the development of its thermoelectric performance. Herein, high-pressure technology is adopted to tune the electronic structure motivating carrier mobility , incorporated with the contribution of Cu deficiency to carrier concentration, achieving high carrier mobility of 25 cm 2 V −1 s −1 and outstanding electrical conductivity of 2834.57 Sm −1 . Moreover, high densities of grain boundaries and dislocations are introduced by high pressure, accompanied by the effect of Cu vacancies, suppressing phonon transport and depressing lattice thermal conductivity , finally realizing an acceptable zT of 0.56 at 823 K in BiCu 0.97 SeO. This work demonstrates that high pressure can be compatible with other methods, realizing synergetic optimizations in coupled parameters and thus improving thermoelectric performance in BiCuSeO oxides.

Pt-Cu bimetallic particles have been regarded as promising catalysts for propane dehydrogenation. The dispersion of Pt and Cu species on conventional supports always results in the formation of large Pt-Cu particles, and it is highly desirable to fabricate ultra-small Pt-Cu cluster catalysts for propane dehydrogenation. Herein, we used the isolated Cu species in the Cu-SSZ-13 to localize the Pt species and the alloying of Pt with Cu leads to a formation of ultra-small (<1 nm) Pt-Cu bimetallic clusters in the structure of SSZ-13. The structure of synthesized PtCu-SSZ-13 catalysts was studied by XRD, SEM, STEM, XPS, CO-FTIR, H 2 -TPR and EXAFS techniques, which demonstrates that Pt-Cu clusters are entrapped in the micropore of SSZ-13 and their migration can be greatly inhibited. The synthesized PtCu-SSZ-13 catalyst shows high activity and good regeneration in propane dehydrogenation. The optimized catalyst 0.3 %PtCu-SSZ-13 delivers propane conversion of 28.5 % (close to equilibrium conversion) with 100 % propane as feed under WHSV of 7.1 h −1 at 520°C, and its catalytic performance can be completely regenerated via calcination in air. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that the unique Pt-Cu bimetallic nanocluster structure reduces the energy potential for propane dehydrogenation as well as promotes the adsorption of C 3 H 8 and desorption of C 3 H 6 thus enhancing the activity of the PtCu-SSZ-13 catalyst.

The rapid growth of the dyeing and printing industry has resulted in severe water pollution, posing significant threats to human health and ecosystems. To effectively tackle this challenge, this study presents a novel approach using marine biomass-derived carbon (kelp) combined with Prussian blue (FeCu-PBA) to synthesize carbon-based nanoclusters (Cu-Fe 3 C@KC) for efficient microwave-assisted degradation of high-concentration dyes. By optimizing the FeCu-PBA-to-kelp mass ratio (FeCu/KC), we tailored the material’s morphology and enhanced its microwave absorption properties, achieving rapid and effective dye degradation. Experimental results demonstrate that Cu-Fe 3 C@KC-3 degraded methyl orange, methylene blue, crystal violet, and rhodamine B with efficiencies of 99.37 %, 96.23 %, 94.67 %, and 99.77 %, respectively, within just 4 min. Mechanistic studies, including free radical capture experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis, revealed that superoxide radicals ( O 2 − ), holes (h + ), electrons (e − ), and hydroxyl radicals ( OH) were the primary reactive species in the degradation process, with OH playing a dominant role due to its strong oxidative capacity. This research highlights the dual advantages of Cu-Fe 3 C@KC-3: superior catalytic performance and cost-effectiveness. The innovative use of kelp as a precursor provides a sustainable and economical pathway for the large-scale treatment of dye-laden wastewater, addressing critical environmental challenges with significant practical implications.

The hydrogenation of carbon dioxide into profitable chemicals is a viable path toward achieving the objective of carbon neutrality. However, the typical approach for hydrogenation of CO2 heavily relies on thermally driven catalysis at high temperatures, which is not aligned with the goals of carbon neutrality. Thus, there is a critical need to explore new catalytic methods for the high-efficiency conversion of CO2. Herein, we present a new class of catalysts, featuring phosphorus-doped amorphous ruthenium nanoparticles supported on copper nanoparticles, which capitalizes on the plasmonic effects of copper to achieve the photothermal transformation of CO2 to CO within a gas–solid flow system. Our findings indicated that the reaction efficiency in the presence of photothermal energy was over eight times greater than that with thermal energy alone. The catalyst system exhibited nearly 100% selectivity towards CO under mild conditions, with an impressive CO yield of 123.16 mmol g−1 h−1. This study highlights the significant potential of amorphous metal phosphides in photocatalytic CO2 hydrogenation under mild conditions and offers a fresh avenue for the robust catalysis of amorphous materials.

Copper ions (Cu + and Cu 2+ ) are vital for physiological functions, and their imbalance is implicated in disease progression. However, simultaneous detection of both species is challenging due to their similar properties. Here, we report a dual-functionalized glass micropipette sensor enabling independent detection of Cu + and Cu 2+ . UiO-66-NH 2 was grown in situ on the inner wall to capture Cu 2+ via amino coordination, reducing ionic current. Glutathione-functionalized carbon nanotubes (GCNTs) coated on the outer surface bind Cu + , increasing SERS signal via enhanced surface defects. The sensor exhibits a wide detection range (10 -1 –10 5 μM), a detection limit of 0.1 μM, and allows simultaneous monitoring of Cu + /Cu 2+ in the physiological range (2–10 μM). It further distinguishes copper ion levels in MCF-10A and MCF-7 cells, revealing altered copper homeostasis in cancer. This platform offers a sensitive, selective tool for studying copper in biological systems.

With the acceleration of industrialization and urbanization, the treatment of organic pollutants in water bodies has become a global problem. Photocatalytic technology is regarded as an ideal solution due to its green and efficient characteristics. However, traditional powder catalysts have the problem of difficult recovery. Using copper foam as the substrate to load photocatalysts is a feasible solution. Cu/CuO/Cu 2 O with a core–shell structure was prepared by a simple solvothermal method based on copper foam. Under visible light irradiation, the Cu/CuO/Cu 2 O catalyst has a high catalytic efficiency for Congo red (95% within 180 min) and a significant adsorption and degradation ability for tetracycline hydrochloride. The results of the density functional theory calculation and electrochemical tests reveal that a Schottky heterojunction forms between Cu 2 O and CuO, the band gap of Cu 2 O is 0.57 eV, and the free energy of Cu/CuO/Cu 2 O is 0.24 eV, close to 0 eV, revealing the ternary composite’s possibility to evolve hydrogen. The heterojunction generated by Cu 2 O and CuO improves the material’s charge transport efficiency. Furthermore, this ternary composite based on copper foam easy to recycle and reuse, and can maintain nearly 90% degradation efficiency after 8 cycles. This concept offers a method for planning and building interfaces in nanocomposite structures. Graphical

CO 2 -to-hydrocarbon fuel conversion via artificial photosynthesis is limited by catalyst poisoning under high O 2 partial pressures and sluggish C 2 -product formation. Herein, Ru 0.6 Cu 1 (Cu 0 –Cu 1+ )/CeO 2 catalysts with adaptive O 2 tolerance are prepared by O 2 -mediated dynamic interfacial reconstruction. Single-atom Ru doping at Ce lattice sites creates a trigonal prismatic coordination configuration, enabling proton-coupled electron transfer and accelerating H 2 O dissociation. Photothermal effect promotes O 2 -driven self-assembly of Cu 0 –Cu 1+ charge-gradient interfaces within Ru/Cu alloy clusters, thereby optimizing the adsorption behavior of * CHOCO intermediates and restructuring the C–C coupling pathway. Interfacial charge cascade transfer and geometric site synergy thermodynamically shift the product selectivity from C 1 to C 2 , as determined by operando spectroscopy and electronic structure analysis. Under concentrated solar irradiation, the catalyst produces 549 ± 20 μmol·g −1 C 2 H 4 with 74.3% selectivity and 0.5% solar-to-chemical energy conversion efficiency—25-fold higher than that in non-concentrated systems. Dynamic interfacial regulation facilitates precise carbon chain synthesis in complex reaction networks.

In this study, a colorimetric detection system for Cr(III) was established by leveraging the laccase-mimicking activity of two-dimensional Cu-based metal-organic frameworks (Cu-MOFs) modified with polydopamine (PDA) nanomaterials (Cu-MOF@PDA), through which Cr(III) specifically inhibits the catalytic performance. The Cu-MOF@PDA composite exhibited significant laccase-mimicking activity, enabling the oxidation of 2,4-dichlorophenol (2,4-DP) and 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AP), leading to the generation of a red-colored compound. Notably, the laccase-like activity of Cu-MOF@PDA was substantially enhanced under ultrasonic (US) stimulation. Free-radical trapping experiments revealed that the levels of singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) and hydroxyl radicals ( OH) were markedly increased, while the electron transfer rate was accelerated, thereby boosting catalytic efficiency under US exposure. The research confirmed that Cr(III) binds to Cu-MOF@PDA, leading to the suppression of its catalytic activity. A strong linear correlation (R 2 = 0.995) was observed between the absorbance at 505 nm and Cr(III) concentrations ranging from 0.67 to 54.17 μg/L, with a low detection limit (LOD) of 0.26 μg/L (S/N = 3). The developed approach was effectively utilized for the analysis of Cr(III) and total Cr in cigarette tipping paper samples, yielding highly satisfactory results.
