Phase change micro/nanocapsules with high thermal conductivity shells have extensive application prospects in solar energy storage systems and electronics cooling. To improve the heat transfer of the capsules, a method of preparing Ag-shell coated phase change micro/nanocapsules was developed, where the AgBr ultrafine solid particles are introduced to enhance the rigidity of emulsion droplets in the liquid-solid phase transition process, and by employing hydroquinone as the reductant to repeatedly reduce the AgBr that had been adhered to the surface of the emulsion droplets, an Ag shell is formed on the surface of the cores. In this work, palmitic acid (PA) is used as the core material, and the prepared PA/Ag nanocapsules (100–600 nm) exhibit high thermal storage capability and good thermal reliability. The bulk thermal conductivity of the nanocapsules can be as high as 4.072 W/(m·K), indicating that the Ag shell can effectively improve the thermal conductivity of the nanocapsules. Besides, the thermal response of the nanocapsules is estimated by simulating a single-particle heat transfer process considering nanoscale effects , and the results demonstrate that the thermal response time of PA/Ag nanocapsule (350 nm) in working fluid (water, 80 °C) could be as short as 150ns.

Designing efficient nanoparticle-based stabilizer that is suitable for achieving an interconnected porous monolith still remains a challenge. Herein, Ag-nanocomposite poly high-internal phase emulsion (HIPE) template was readily obtained by O/W HIPE, co -stabilized by silver nano powders (Ag-NPs) and polyvinyl pyrrolidone. Cyclohexane as oil phase, N, N ′-methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinking agent, and free-radical copolymerization of acrylamide (AM) and 2-acrylamide-2-methyl propane sulfonic acid (AMPS) were used in the water phase, which was initiated by potassium persulfate. Thus, Ag-nanocomposite copolymer poly(HIPE)s [Ag/P(AM- co -AMPS)] were obtained via a one-pot synthesis method. The effects of Ag-NP content and different internal phase volume on the porous composites were investigated. The morphology and structures of the composites were characterized, and the average pore size was measured to be approximately 60 μm. Furthermore, the catalytic activity was studied via catalytic degradation of the methylene blue (MB). The decolorization of the MB solution can be completed within 8 min by using the composites containing 5 wt% Ag-NPs. The composite poly(HIPE)s had certain antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus bacteria (9 mm zone of inhibition). Moreover, a compression electric sensitivity ( GF = 2.05) was exhibited with an enhanced electrical conductivity . Thereby, a facile approach to multifunctional macroporous Ag-nanocomposite poly(HIPE) was presented.

Halide perovskite quantum dots (HP QDs) have been widely used in the field of photocatalysis due to their excellent performance. However, the issues of lead toxicity and instability prevent their process in the photocatalysis application. Herein, the lead-free Cs2AgInCl6 perovskite quantum dots (CAIC QDs) are synthesized by the hot-injection method, and CAIC QDs@Ag composites with various Ag loading amounts are self-assembled by adjusting the Cl source in the synthesis process, which is used to improve the CO2 photoreduction efficiency by using the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effect of Ag nanoparticles. In addition, the surface ligand density of CAIC QDs@Ag composites is regulated by the purification processing treatment to release the influence of organic ligands on the charge transport performance. It is found that the CAIC QDs@Ag composite with the optimal ligands density possesses fast electron transport and effective carrier separation efficiency, which are crucial for the improvement of the photocatalysis reaction. As a result, the CAIC QDs@Ag-2 composite after purification processing achieves the highest yield of 26.4 μmol g−1 and 28.9 μmol g−1 for CO and CH4, respectively, during the CO2 photoreduction process. In addition, there is no significant decline of CO2 photoreduction performance after the photocatalysis cycling test for 9 h, indicating the good stability of the CAIC QDs@Ag composite in the photocatalysis process.

In this study, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) nanofiber substrates containing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were formed by electrospun method. AgNPs were synthesized by in-situ reduction approach under the UV irradiation using PVA as the stabilizer and reductant. SEM, TEM , FTIR, Raman and UV–vis were used to characterize the nanofiber substrates. The results indicated that the average diameter of electrospun flexible PVA/Ag fibers was 250 nm, and the spherical Ag NPs with mean size of less than 10 nm were uniformly embedded into the PVA nanofibers. There appeared a broad absorption peak at 450 nm, which originated from the SPR effect of Ag NPs. The PVA/Ag substrate as-prepared showed the excellent Raman enhancement performance for Rhodamine 6 G detecting. The limit of detection for PVA/Ag SERS substrate was 10 −5 M and the enhancement factor (EF) was 1.58 × 10 5 . Moreover, 20 points were randomly selected for testing and the RSD was 8.81 %, indicating the PVA/Ag electrospun nanofibers SERS substrates had excellent uniformity.

Severe bacterial infections have brought an urgent threat to our daily life, and photothermal therapy (PTT) has acted as an effective method to kill bacteria. Herein we decorated Ag on the surface of SnS2 (Ag@SnS2), which has outstanding photothermal conversion capability and good biocompatibility. The decoration of Ag on SnS2 improved the absorption of near-infrared (NIR) light in comparison to SnS2, resulting in a temperature increase of 50 °C after 5 min of NIR light irradiation (1.9 W cm−2) and a photothermal conversion efficiency of 31.3%. Ag@SnS2 exhibits almost 100% growth inhibition of E. coli and S. aureus bacteria due to hyperthermia, with a concentration larger than 0.5 mg mL−1 and 5 min of NIR irradiation. Meanwhile, SEM images of treated bacterial cells showed the attachment of Ag@SnS2 on the cell surface and obvious cellular membrane destruction. Ag@SnS2 can also accelerate in vivo wound healing through PTT-induced bacterial disinfection. Therefore, Ag@SnS2 exhibits great potential for photothermal antibacterial application and wound disinfection.

Bi 2 Sr 2 Co 2 O y with excellent thermoelectric properties has received extensive attention from scientific researchers. In this study, Bi 2 Sr 2 Co 2 O y ceramic samples were prepared using the solid-phase sintering method. By Ag + substitution for Bi 3+ , the hole concentration and electrical conductivity were optimised. On this basis, nano-SiC particles were introduced to increase grain boundaries, improve phonon scattering, reduce the mean free path of phonons, and reduce the lattice thermal conductivity . A sample with a nominal composition of Bi 1.8 Ag 0.2 Sr 2 Co 2 O y + 0.025 wt% SiC had a maximum ZT value of 0.35 at 923 K, which was approximately 67 % higher than the ZT value of pure Bi 2 Sr 2 Co 2 O y . These results confirmed that under the combined action of Ag substitution and SiC doping, the thermoelectric performance of Bi 2 Sr 2 Co 2 O y was significantly improved.

Steering charge kinetics is one of the most urgent unsolved issues in photocatalysis. The effective spatial separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs is particularly important in the design and controllable preparation of nano-photocatalysts. Herein, one-dimensional Nb 2 O 5 nanorod arrays with [0 0 1] orientation were grown in-situ on two-dimensional Nb 2 CT x MXenes through a facile hydrothermal method for the first time. Ag nanoparticles were then photodeposited on the Nb 2 O 5 nanorods to form hierarchical 0D/1D/2D nanohybrids. It was experimentally demonstrated that OH is predominantly adsorbed on Nb 2 CT x as termination groups, which resulted in a low work function (2.7 eV). Thanks to the unique structure, the highly active [0 0 1] Nb 2 O 5 nanorods afford high-efficiency photogeneration of electron-hole pairs, while the low-work-function OH terminated Nb 2 CT x allows for trapping holes, and Ag nanoparticles act as electron reservoir and sites of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The ternary Ag/Nb 2 O 5 @Nb 2 CT x nanohybrids reached a record HER activity (682.2 and 824.2 μmol·g -1 h −1 use methanol and glycerol as sacrificial agents, respectively) among the niobium-based photocatalysts, demonstrating the potential of MXenes as a platform for the synthesis of high-performance heterojunction structures, where the tunable electronic property is a key factor.

In this article, we prepare corncob-like Cu–Ag and core–shell Cu@Ag bimetallic structures by controlling the concentration of Ag and Cu salts via a galvanic replacement reaction. Moreover, the structure evolution and electrical resistivity of the Cu–Ag corncob nanoparticle deposits were investigated upon heating up to 260 °C by experiments. Afterward, the effect of the distinctiveness and arrangement (such as core@shell, bifacial Janus, and nanowire structure) on the sintering behavior of Cu–Ag systems was investigated by molecular dynamics simulation. The results revealed that both the Ag–Cu ratio and the special structure in the initial stage as well as the sintering temperature play important roles in the morphological formation. Despite limited experimental observation of the structure evolution during sintering, the MD simulation provides a powerful tool to monitor the atom trajectory. The combined information from our experiment and molecular dynamics (MD) results will give guidelines for choosing the preferred structure of Cu–Ag systems when aiming at certain sintering properties.

In this work, the highly efficient and low-cost Ag-AgBr/AlOOH plasmonic photocatalyst is successfully prepared via a simple and mild wet-chemical process and used for degrading high concentration methylene blue (MB) and tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH). The optimized 6-Ag-AgBr/AlOOH sample showed a 79% decomposition of TCH in 2 h, which is almost two times higher than that of bare AgBr (37%). For degrading MB, the photocatalytic activity of 6-Ag-AgBr/AlOOH (decomposing 84% in 2 h) showed a large enhancement as compared to bare AgBr (only 57%). The TEM, HRTEM, XRD, DRS, and XPS characterization results confirm that Ag-AgBr is a composite catalyst formed by loading Ag nanoparticles onto AgBr surfaces and then loaded on to AlOOH. The possible mechanism proposed is that •O2- and •OH radicals produced under sun light are the main active species for degrading MB and TCH. It is hoped that this work will open a new gateway to the synthesis of highly efficient and low-cost Ag-AgBr/AlOOH plasmonic photocatalysts for degrading organic pollutants.

Highly ordered Ag particle-chains (AgPCs) have been obtained from Ag nanowires (AgNWs) by radio frequency (RF) plasma treatment. Such conversion is attributed to the fast nonequilibrium diffusion of Ag atoms (liquid-like behavior) on AgNWs surfaces through the plasma bombarding. Further, the formed AgPCs highly coincide with the predictions by Rayleigh instability. In contrast to heat treatment, AgPCs are formed rapidly, highly ordered and at temperature below 100 °C. Furthermore, aperiodicity and wire–wire welding instead of highly ordered particle-chains has been observed as the AgNWs are overlapped by plasma treatment. This work should provide a new perspective for metallic particle-chains fabrication. Keywords:plasma treatment;Rayleigh instability;Ag nanowires;ordered Ag particle-chains

pH electrodes exhibited wide applications in the fields of food science, environmental science, and bioanalytical analysis. In this work, we demonstrate the facile fabrication of silver-antimony (Ag–Sb) binary alloy electrodes through a one-step melt casting method. XRD, SEM and EDS were used to characterize the alloy electrodes. The response mechanism of the pH electrode was studied by Tafel plots, which clarified the role of metal (Sb) and metal oxide (SbO ads ) in the pH response process. The corrosion resistance of the alloy electrode was researched by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), which proved the advantages of the Ag–Sb alloy electrodes. In addition, our Ag–Sb pH electrodes exhibited promising sensing performance with the near-Nernstian response sensitivity is 54.6 mV/pH. The other performances including response time, stability, reversibility, hysteresis, and temperature coefficient, also demonstrated that the Ag–Sb binary alloy electrodes have good pH speciality, and it will potential applications for environmental monitoring in situ. These research results can complement and perfect the theoretical basis of metal/metal oxide pH electrodes, thus guiding the preparation of metal/metal oxide pH electrodes and promoting the exact and extensive application of metal/metal electrodes in more aspects.

Electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) provides a facile and sustainable route to synthesize ammonia. The preparation of efficient and high-performance catalysts is one of the most important issues in large-scale applications of the electrochemical synthesis of ammonia. Herein, we have devised a simple method to fabricate three-dimensional palladium-silver-sulphur porous nanosponges (Pd–Ag–S PNSs) under room temperature. The porous network can provide more active sites and accessible channels for the reaction species. The incorporation of sulfur reduces the energy barrier of NRR and promotes the nitrogen hydrogenation to ammonia. Intrinsically, the Pd–Ag–S PNSs demonstrates a superior NRR performance with an NH3 yield of 9.73 μg h−1 mg−1cat. and a faradaic efficiency of 18.41% at −0.2 V, superior to those of the undoped Pd–Ag PNSs. The design of the three-dimensional metallic nanosponges with the doping of nonmetallic elements is a highly valuable strategy for NRR and other electrocatalytic reactions.
