Ferrocene-based compounds are widely used as burning rate catalysts (BRCs) in composite solid propellants (CSPs) due to their efficient performances in the thermal decomposition of ammonium perchlorate (AP). However, on prolong storage ferrocene-based BRCs favors migration in the propellant matrix. To address this issue, ferrocenyl (Fc) morpholine compounds (Fc-MORP-1, Fc-MORP-2 and Fc-MORP-3) were synthesized. The structure of Fc-MORPs was characterized by UV–Vis, FT-IR and 1 H-NMR spectroscopy, while the catalytic activities were examined through thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermogravimetric (DTG) techniques. Results reveal that pure AP decomposed at 415.28 °C and after mixing with 1 wt.% of Fc-MORP-1, Fc-MORP-2 and Fc-MORP-3, the decomposition temperature of AP reduced to 382.50 °C, 380.42 °C and 396.62, respectively, showing that Fc-MORP-2 shows good catalytic performance. Anti-migration studies revealed that Fc-MORP-3 shows the best anti-migration performance in simulated CSP. In addition, the combustion performances were investigated by burning AP-hydroxyl-terminated polybutadiene (HTPB)-based simulated propellant. The results showed that Fc-MORP-2 had effectively reduced the burning time of the simulated AP-HTPB propellant from 24 s (sec) to 10 sec.

The impact of water on the physicochemical properties and CO 2 absorption capability of the N -methyldiethanolamine (MDEA) + polyethylene glycol 300 (PEG300) solution was explored. The molar ratio of PEG300 to MDEA was fixed at 0.3734: 0.6266, and the density and viscosity of the aqueous solutions were measured at P = 100.5 kPa and T = (298.15–318.15) K. Based on these measurements, the excess properties of the system were calculated. Meanwhile, spectral analysis confirmed the formation of intermolecular hydrogen bonds among MDEA, PEG300, and H₂O. Building on these findings, the influence of water content on the cyclic CO 2 absorption performance of the H₂O + (PEG300 + MDEA) system was systematically investigated, with particular emphasis on the regeneration behavior at 15 wt% MDEA concentration. Furthermore, the underlying mechanism of the cyclic CO₂ absorption process was elucidated using multiple analytical techniques. These insights provide certain theoretical support for the industrial application of PEG300 + MDEA aqueous systems in CO 2 capture.

Lead-free halide double perovskites are attractive luminescent materials owing to their low toxicity and structural stability, but their white-light performance is often limited by weak long-wavelength emission and inefficient energy regulation. Herein, Sb 3+ single-doped and Sb 3+ , Mn 2+ co-doped Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 phosphors were synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Sb 3+ introduces broadband blue emission associated with localized excited states, while Mn 2+ incorporation produces orange-red emission through the 4 T 1 → 6 A 1 transition. The coexistence of these two emission components enables tunable dual-emission and single-host white-light generation. Time-resolved PL analysis confirms the shortening of the Sb 3+ -related lifetime after Mn 2+ incorporation, and the energy-transfer efficiency reaches 31.25% for the optimized Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 : 0.005Sb 3+ , 0.05Mn 2+ sample. Temperature-dependent PL and Arrhenius analysis reveal improved thermal-quenching resistance, with the activation energy increasing from 0.13777 to 0.21293 eV. The optimized phosphor-based WLED exhibits neutral-white emission with CIE coordinates of (0.3287, 0.3565), a CCT of 5688 K, and a CRI of 72.4. These results provide insight into emission regulation and energy-transfer dynamics in Sb 3+ , Mn 2+ co-doped Cs 2 NaLuCl 6 phosphors for proof-of-concept white-light and optical anti-counterfeiting applications.

Elemental sulfur recovery from sulfide-bearing wastewaters presents a promising strategy for achieving both a sustainable elemental sulfur supply and pollutant removal. However, existing methods face low efficiency or heavy chemical usage, limiting their practicality. Here, we report an iron-derived solid redox sulfur recovery system, capable of efficiently converting sulfides to elemental sulfur and separating elemental sulfur from the iron catalysts (ferrihydrite) via simple gravity-based methods. Using iron-derived solid redox system, we achieve a record sulfide removal rate of 102.9 ± 3.1 kg m −3 d −1 with an elemental sulfur selectivity of 93.5 ± 0.9%. The produced elemental sulfur is then efficiently separated from the solid mixture through a hydraulic sorting process, attaining 97.7 ± 0.2% purity. Mechanistic analysis identifies the iron and sulfur species governing the solid redox process and elucidates that the separation behavior of elemental sulfur is likely a result of surface-state-dependent elemental sulfur agglomeration and repulsion between elemental sulfur and iron flocs. Moreover, we verify the effectiveness of iron-derived solid redox system in recovering elemental sulfur from two real wastewaters and estimate the economic benefits of elemental sulfur recovery to exceed 180 United States dollars per ton. This work suggests a practical approach to enable sulfide-bearing wastewaters as a sustainable source for elemental sulfur supply efficiently and cost-effectively.

Sinomenine (SIN) has been established to exert neuroprotective effects in ischemic stroke (IS), yet its specific molecular targets and detailed mechanisms remain incompletely understood. This study identified Fermt2 as a critical target through which SIN exerted its neuroprotective effects in IS. In a rat model of cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury, overexpression of Fermt2 improved neurological deficits, reduced cerebral infarct volume by nearly one-third, and significantly decreased neuronal apoptosis in the ischemic penumbra. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that upregulation of Fermt2 promoted a shift in microglial polarization from the pro-inflammatory M1 phenotype to the anti-inflammatory M2 phenotype, thereby suppressing pro-inflammatory cytokines and restoring anti-inflammatory factors. Mechanistic investigations revealed that Fermt2 functioned by inhibiting the RhoA/ROCK/NF-κB signaling pathway. Crucially, knockdown of Fermt2 reversed the beneficial effects of SIN in IS rats. In conclusion, Fermt2 is a master regulator of microglia-dependent neuroinflammation and a promising therapeutic target for IS.

Animals integrate internal states to guide survival-critical decisions, but whether and how intestinal bacteria influence this process by interacting with host metabolic cues remains unclear. Here we show that the intestinal pathogen P. aeruginosa overrides host decision-making in fasted C. elegans by modulating central serotonin (5-HT) signaling. Fasting promotes risk-taking by activating an intestinal energy-sensing pathway that induces the chemoreceptor SRI-36 in ADF 5-HT neurons, sensitizing ADF to food odors and triggering moderate 5-HT release that drives food attraction despite risk. In contrast, intestinal P. aeruginosa reverses this strategy by activating a distinct immune-brain axis that further amplifies SRI-36 expression and ADF sensitivity, leading to excessive 5-HT release that suppresses food attraction and prioritizes safety. These findings reveal a gut-to-brain mechanism by which metabolic and immune signals converge on central 5-HT to reshape behavioral strategies.

The adsorption of Sr 2+ and Cs + onto Gaomiaozi bentonite colloids (GMZC) was investigated to evaluate their role in radionuclide migration. The results show that within a concentration range of 20–100 mg·L⁻ 1 for Sr 2+ and Cs + , the distribution coefficient decreases with increasing ion concentration. The mechanistic study indicates that the adsorption of Sr 2+ is predominantly governed by surface complexation, whereas that of Cs + is mainly driven by ion exchange. Furthermore, Sr 2+ induces structural ordering of GMZC layers and promotes particle aggregation. However, in Na-Cl-SO 4 groundwater, the bentonite suspension showed poor stability and a significantly weakened adsorption capacity for both 90 Sr and 137 Cs, demonstrating the decisive impact of water chemistry on its barrier function.

The flexibility and intelligent responsiveness of hydrogel robots offer great potential for exploration in narrow and complex environments. However, the integration of sensors with hydrogel robotic bodies remains challenging. Inspired by marine organisms, this paper presents an anemone-like light-driven hydrogel robot (ALHR) for directional infrared radiation detection. We fabricated via ultrasonic-assisted stacking a black phosphorus/tungsten disulfide (BP/WS 2 ) moiré superlattice, showing high dual-mode photothermal-photovoltaic conversion performance. Based on this, a composite poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) hydrogel was used to build the base plate and tentacle structures of the ALHR. Specific illumination was found to trigger the photothermal effect of the BP/WS 2 moiré superlattice, allowing for directional movement. When the tentacles retract and contact the bottom electrode, photocurrent signals are conducted for infrared detection. The ALHR can work in specialized spatial environments, providing a promising method for early overheating fault identification in equipment. This study proposes a universal design framework for multifunctional hydrogel robots by integrating responsive units with driving units to leverage the synergistic effects of multiple materials.

Aims Plants serve as bioindicators of environmental heavy metal pollution. Rapid, non-destructive techniques for plant elemental analysis are essential for understanding pollutant uptake and nutrient interactions. This study aimed to develop a novel approach integrating Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) with guttation fluid for non-destructive monitoring of elemental dynamics in Alocasia under Cr (III) stress. Methods Guttation fluid (easy to collect and with a large volume) was collected non-destructively from hydroponically cultivated Alocasia plants subjected to Cr (III) stress. LIBS analysis was performed on fluid samples using a liquid-to-solid enrichment strategy to enhance trace detection. Signal validation was conducted via comparison with Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS) measurements. Results Guttation fluid elemental composition strongly correlated with plant tissues. Under Cr(III) stress, Cr signal intensity increased with stress concentration, while Mg and Ca signals decreased by approximately 30–40%. The accumulation of Cr in guttation fluid continued to rise to a peak and then decreased (likely associated with root damage). LIBS results showed significant correlation with those obtained by ICP-MS (R 2 = 0.995 for Cr(Ⅰ)). The method achieved a detection limit of 20.3 ppb for Cr with excellent linearity (R 2 = 0.963). Conclusion This LIBS-guttation fluid approach provides a reliable, non-destructive means to monitor plant responses to heavy metal stress, offering potential for environmental biomonitoring and crop safety assessment.

Microbial degradation has attracted more and more attention to be an effective way to effectively treat pesticide in the environment and save treatment costs. However, the specific degradation mechanism and the influence of microorganisms on the environment of some pesticides are still unclear. In this study, the Serratia marcescens BCD1 (PV133529) which isolated from the blueberry soil showed a 20 days degradation rate of 93.14% and 91.09% for 50 mg/L and 250 mg/L λ-cyhalothrin, respectively. Product analysis revealed the pathway of λ-cyhalothrin degradation by Serratia marcescens BCD1, including the removal of cyano groups and the cleavage of ester bonds. The morphological changes of BCD1 in the presence of different concentrations of λ-cyhalothrin were observed by SEM electron microscopy, and the cell wall of BCD1 was wrinkled and deformed, and the cell length was shortened under the stress of λ-cyhalothrin. This study indicates that BCD1 as a promising microorganism for λ-cyhalothrin residue and improve blueberry quality in a treatment setting. Graphical

Surgical adhesives are widely used in clinical practice but pose a significant risk of severe vascular embolism complications. Nevertheless, there are currently no non-invasive direct methods for precise detection of detached emboli. Herein, we show a CT-visualized method for hypersensitive detection of single millimeter vascular emboli from adhesive in vivo by simply doping BiOCl into surgical adhesives. As proof of concept, BiOCl-BioGlue with excellent CT imaging capability is fabricated and applied to repair ruptured vessels and liver in male rats. The location, morphology, and degradation process of BiOCl-BioGlue can be dynamically monitored by CT imaging for 42 days, and pulmonary emboli caused by BiOCl-BioGlue, with sizes as small as 1.2 mm, are successfully detected. Additionally, the high K-edge of Bi enables precise detection of pulmonary emboli in spectral CT imaging, unaffected by confounding calcifications. The proposed non-invasive detection strategy for adhesive emboli significantly enhances the biosafety of surgical adhesives.

Levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID) is a side effect of Parkinson’s disease (PD) treated with L-3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA). Nardosinone is the major active component of the dried root and rhizome of Nardostachys jatamansi DC, which is effective for treating PD. The purpose of this study was to explore the effects of nardosinone on LID and the underlying mechanism involving the microbiota–gut–brain axis. A PD rat model was established with rotenone. Behavioral and immunohistochemical staining experiments were used to investigate the synergistic effect of nardosinone on L-DOPA in PD rats. Then, the LID model was established by using high-dose L-DOPA and benserazide, and the effect of nardosinone on LID was evaluated by abnormal involuntary movement scale (AIMS) and western blotting (WB). Hematoxylin‒eosin staining (on intestinal tissues), 16 S rRNA (on gut microbiota), and ELISA (on serum and brain tissues) were used to investigate the mechanism of action of nardosinone in the treatment of LID. Behavioral tests revealed that nardosinone increased the ability of L-DOPA to treat forelimb dysfunction and autonomic activity disorders in PD, and immunohistochemical staining experiments revealed that nardosinone exerted a protective effect on dopaminergic neurons as PD-induced neuronal damage was reversed, which complements the therapeutic effect of L-DOPA. AIMS and WB analyses indicated that high-dose L-DOPA induced LID, but nardosinone exerted an effect in reducing LID by not only improving rats’ abnormal involuntary movements but also downregulating ∆FosB expression. Analysis of 16 S rRNA revealed that nardosinone can regulate the intestinal flora in rats with LID. In addition, nardosinone can protect the colonic structure and reduce intestinal permeability. Moreover, nardosinone can reduce the expression of inflammatory factors in the colon and striatum of rats with LID and improve intestinal inflammation and neuroinflammation. Nardosinone can improve the effect of L-DOPA on ameliorating motor function in PD rats while alleviating LID, and its mechanism for improving LID may be related to regulating intestinal flora balance, repairing intestinal barrier integrity, and inhibiting inflammatory responses via the microbiota–gut–brain axis.
