Uranium (U(VI)) removal from nuclear-contaminated water is still an obstacle that needs to be solved quickly. Herein, looking for efficient, fast, and highly selective separation of U(VI) versatile material is of great significance. In this study, a novel Ce/Mn bimetallic modified aminated MOF material UiO-66-NH 2 was synthesized through solvothermal reaction by using ZrOCl 2 ·8H 2 O as a sacrificial template, which was employed as an adsorbent in radioactive remediation. The characterization of the adsorbent Ce/Mn-UiO-66-NH 2 was investigated by XRD, FTIR, SEM, and BET and the results indicated that Zr in UiO-66-NH 2 had been partially replaced by Ce/Mn successfully. Through batch adsorption experiments, we found that the maximal capture capacity of the produced adsorbent for U(VI) was 1218.78 mg/g at 313 K, and the elimination process fitted well with pseudo-second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model. The thermodynamic parameters indicate that the adsorption process of U(VI) was endothermic and spontaneous which was regulated by chemisorption. After 5 times recycling, the removal rate still exceeded 83.5 %, indicating that Ce/Mn-UiO-66-NH 2 was a promising adsorbent that can effectively remove U(VI) in radioactive wastewater. The increased adsorption capacity was proposed attributed to complexation and electrostatic attraction between the radionuclides and the introducing functional groups as well as Ce or Mn ions. This study provides a reference value for radioactive wastewater remediation.

Considering the instability of quantum dot sensitized solar cells (QDSSCs) due to the leakage and volatileness of polysulfide electrolyte. We explored the possibility of applying Ce doping LaMnO 3 ceramic hole transport material (LaMnCe) inside QDSSCs. LaMnO 3 oxides possess high electronic conductivity. Doping of Ce can adjust the band position of materials to match Zn-Cu-In-Se (ZCISe) QDSSCs. LaMnCe was added to the photoanode by spin method and further constructed into the quasi-solid state QDSSCs. The QDSSCs can achieve the PCE of 9.15 % (V oc is 0.66 V, J sc is 24.49 mA·cm −2 , FF is 57.80), which is 33 % higher than the standard liquid QDSSCs. The average electron lifetime of quasi-solid-state QDSSCs prepared with LaMnCe is 5 % higher than that of liquid QDSSCs, and the stability performance of the QDSSCs has been raised significantly.

Carbon dots (CDs) have been studied as eco-friendly corrosion inhibitors for metals. However, the mechanisms behind their effectiveness are not fully understood. We developed a cost-effective and environmentally friendly method to synthesize Ce-doped CDs (CeCDs) using urea, ammonium citrate, and cerium nitrate. By optimizing the Ce doping concentration to 200 μg/L, we achieved a high corrosion inhibition efficiency. When tested in 1 M HCl, CeCDs at 200 mg/L showed 80 % inhibition, while ionic liquid-modified CeCDs (IL-CeCDs) demonstrated an even higher efficiency of 95.35 % on N80 steel. Both CeCDs and IL-CeCDs adsorb onto metal surfaces through a combination of physical and chemical interactions, inhibiting corrosion mainly by affecting cathodic reactions. Among different Ce-doped CDs, CeCD3N, which has a single Ce atom doping, exhibited the highest molecular reactivity, allowing it to interact more effectively with the Fe surface. Further analysis revealed that Ce doping reduces the energy gap of CDs, enhancing their reactivity. Molecular dynamics simulations showed that CeCD3N adsorbs more strongly and forms a closer inhibitor film on the Fe surface compared to other Ce-doped CDs, making it an effective corrosion inhibitor.

Developing efficient photocatalysts with low cost, high performance, and high selectivity is essential and imperative for CO 2 conversion and utilization, yet it remains a big challenge. Herein, a novel Ce-doped TiO 2 aerogel with oxygen vacancy anchored on the oriented carbonaceous (Ce–TiO 2 @CS) is synthesized by the sol-gel technique, combined with the freeze casting, supercritical drying technique, and heat treatment processes . The Ce–TiO 2 @CS aerogel has a typical aerogel-like structure, with the Ce–TiO 2 aerogel anchored on the oriented porous carbon , rendering a large BET-specific surface area of 124 m 2 /g, which leads to enhanced photocatalytic activity . The Ce-doping into the pristine TiO 2 results in impurity levels within the band gap, which extends the light response range to the visible light region. In addition, the rapid combination of electrons and holes is prevented via the two-phase microstructures and rapid transfer rate of electrons within the oriented porous carbon. The yields of CH 4 and CO are as high as 9.45 μmol h −1 g −1 and 42.26 μmol h −1 g −1 , respectively, which are 28.6 and 2.46 times higher than those of pristine TiO 2 aerogel under simulated solar spectrum conditions without any sacrificial agents or co-catalysts, The density functional theory (DFT) calculation shows that larger C–O bonds of CO 2 molecule and more negative adsorption energy have occurred on the Ce–TiO 2 @CS aerogel, indicating that the CO 2 activation has been enhanced, which greatly improves the CO 2 photoreduction activity. This work may guide the designing of aerogel-based photocatalysts for CO 2 photocatalytic reduction.

Nowdays, the demand for high-power laser lighting applications is on the rise, however, phosphor in glass (PiG) prepared using conventional glass systems often experience damage under intense laser irradiation. To tackle this issue, we introduce a novel LAS glass system for phosphor encapsulation to create PiG, and by utilizing a spray coating technique, we blend PiG with high thermal conductivity sapphire to obtain phosphor in glass film (PiF), effectively improving laser irradiation resilience and optical characteristics. In this study, a novel LAS glass system (SiO 2 –Li 2 CO 3 –MgO–Al 2 O 3 –CaO–P 2 O 5 –K 2 O–ZrO 2 –Na 2 O) was utilized to encapsulate Ce:GdYAG phosphors to prepare a series of PiG and PiF. The glass system exhibits multi-directional interlocking lithium disilicate crystals, significantly enhancing the glass's strength and fracture toughness. There is no apparent interface reaction between the glass system and the phosphors, indicating effective protection of the phosphor particles. The PiF sample demonstrates a minor decrease of 5.2 % in internal quantum efficiency compared to the original phosphor, while boasting a high thermal conductivity of 7.4 W m −1 K −1 . Notably, the optimized PiF shows remarkable enhancements with a saturation threshold of 4.37 W mm −2 , surpassing PiG (1.668 W mm −2 ), and achieving LF max of 424.41 lm and LE max of 147.16 lm W −1 . It features a high color rendering index (CRI) of 68.7 and low color correlated temperature (CCT) of 3646 K, significantly improving laser irradiation resistance and optical quality, making it a promising warm yellow laser illumination converter for diverse lighting applications.

The development of dual-mode biosensors for the accurate detection of acid phosphatase (ACP) activity and the screening of its inhibitors is of vital importance in clinical diagnostics and environmental monitoring. In this work, we report the synthesis of Mn–Ce co-doped carbon dots (Mn&Ce@CDs) exhibiting both oxidase-mimetic catalytic activity and intrinsic fluorescence. The nanozymes efficiently catalyze the oxidation of colorless o -phenylenediamine (OPD) to produce a yellow chromogen, 2,3-diaminophenazine (DAP), characterized by a distinct absorption peak. Significantly, the excitation spectrum of DAP overlaps with the emission wavelength of Mn&Ce@CDs, resulting in an inner filter effect (IFE) that quenches the blue fluorescence of the carbon dots while simultaneously enhancing DAP's emission. This mechanism establishes a robust ratiometric fluorescence signal. The enzymatic hydrolysis of ascorbyl-2-phosphate by ACP yields ascorbic acid, which inhibits the nanozyme-catalyzed oxidation of OPD. Consequently, this leads to a decrease in DAP formation, diminishing both its characteristic absorption and the IFE-induced fluorescence quenching, thus producing a dual-signal response. Quantitative ACP detection exhibited a linear range of 0.5–15 U/L with limits of detection of 0.037 U/L in fluorescence mode and 0.49 U/L in colorimetric mode. The platform demonstrated high selectivity and reliability, showing recovery rates of 97.7–109.3 % (fluorescence) and 97.9–107.5 % (colorimetric) in spiked serum samples. Additionally, smartphone-based RGB analysis enables rapid on-site detection. The system was successfully applied for screening ACP inhibitors, with chlorpyrifos exhibiting IC 50 values of 50.45 μg/mL (fluorescence) and 43.77 μg/mL (colorimetric). This integrated dual-mode approach offers a powerful, reliable tool for clinical diagnostics and environmental assessment.

Background Environmental safety and protection is accordingly one of the hottest issues to be concerned nowadays. Among all the chemicals to be monitored urgently, aminophenol and luminol are both quite hazardous but widely utilized in the fields of chemical industry, medicine, scientific research, chemical sensing, and so on. Although some reported ways could detect them satisfactorily, few reports could be found for portable visual monitoring and degradation of aminophenol and luminol, using only one sensor to judge the degradation degree as well. Results Fe-doped-Ce oxide modified chitosan fiber (Fe–Ce ox@CF) was developed by microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. By virtue of the excellent physical and chemical performance of carboxylated chitosan and its synergistic effect, Fe–Ce ox@CF possessed prominent oxidase-mimic activity to catalyze over 94 % luminescent luminol into dicarboxylic acid at room temperature. When utilized to accelerate the oxidization of ABTS, K m / V max were 0.0403 mM/2.327 × 10 −8 M s −1 . Especially, ultra-trace m -aminophenol ( m -AP) could exclusively alter the color of Fe–Ce ox@CF-ABTS from green to purple-red with remarkable visibility. Under the optimized conditions, there exhibited an excellent ratiometric colorimetric linear relationship between lg( A 515 / A 730 )/lg( A 515 / A 415 ) and c m -AP , and a fluorescent one between ΔF 427 and c luminol with detection limits (LOD) of 2.0 × 10 −9 M and 5.6 × 10 −9 M respectively. Especially, the red-green-blue (RGB) values got by a common smartphone also possessed good linear relationships with LODs of 1.7 × 10 −8 M and 1.34 × 10 −8 M. Significance This work represents the first oxidase-mimic based sensing system for potable and quantitative degradation of luminol and visual detection of m -aminophenol as well with the help of smartphones. It will also shed promising light on modified natural carbohydrate polymer-based sensors by non-destructive self-assembly and further application in practices.

The development of portable exosome detection platforms is crucial for noninvasive early diagnosis of lung cancer, particularly in resource-limited settings. Herein, we engineered a paper-based colorimetric biosensor utilizing a MnO 2 /CeO 2 heterojunction nanozyme for visual quantification of plasma exosomes. The heterojunction synergistically integrates the high surface area of CeO 2 (45.689 m 2 /g) with the nanorod shaped MnO 2 , generating an interfacial electron transfer pathway that enhances peroxidase-like activity by 1.77 and 5.87 fold (K m = 1.197 mM, V max = 0.884 M/min) compared to individual components. Molecular recognition was achieved through dual-target immobilization: exosome-specific aptamers and anti-CD63/FGG/FGB antibodies conjugated on a chitosan-modified cellulose substrate. A smartphone-based hue-saturation-value (HSV) analysis system embedded in the platform enabled rapid on-site screening within 15 min, followed by microplate scanning of suspected high-risk samples, achieving a detection range of 10 2 –10 8 particles/μL with an ultralow detection limit of ∼2 particles/μL. Integration of a logistic regression model incorporating CD63, FGG, and FGB absorbance values further improved classification robustness. Clinical validation using 194 plasma samples demonstrated exceptional diagnostic accuracy in discriminating malignant from benign pulmonary nodules (AUC = 0.996), with a 95 % confidence interval ranging from 0.797 to 1.05, with 98.51 % sensitivity and 95.52 % specificity. This work establishes a multimodal strategy combining heterojunction nanozyme catalysis, paper-based microfluidics, smartphone-assisted imaging, and machine learning, offering a scalable paradigm for liquid biopsy applications in primary healthcare.

The performance of supported catalysts is significantly affected by the dispersion degree of the active components on the support. In this study, citric acid (CA) was used as a modifier to prepare Al 2 O 3 supported Mn-Ce oxides (Mn-Ce/CA-Al 2 O 3 ) by the impregnation-calcination method. The characterization results showed that adding citric acid enhanced the dispersion of Mn-Ce oxides on the support, rendering Mn-Ce/CA-Al 2 O 3 with a larger specific surface area and abundant surface hydroxyl groups, thereby providing more reaction sites for catalytic ozonation. The Mn-Ce/CA-Al 2 O 3 exhibited excellent catalytic ozonation performance in degrading Reactive Black 5 (RB5) dye. It achieved nearly complete decolorization of RB5 within 60 min, with a COD removal efficiency of 60%, which was superior to the sole ozonation (30%). Furthermore, the Mn-Ce/CA-Al 2 O 3 system demonstrated significant degradation of RB5 over a wide pH range of 3–11. Based on the XPS and EPR analysis results, a preliminary mechanism of catalytic ozonation over the Mn-Ce/CA-Al 2 O 3 was proposed. The redox cycle of Mn 3+ /Mn 4+ and Ce 3+ /Ce 4+ effectively accelerated the electron transfer process, thus promoting the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and improving the degradation of RB5. Meanwhile, the Mn-Ce/CA-Al 2 O 3 exhibited superior catalytic stability and effective treatment capabilities for real dye wastewater.

The replacement of a noble metal catalyst by base metals presents a great challenge for low-temperature CO and volatile organic compounds oxidation. Cu/Ce-based catalysts are expected to achieve this goal with excellent performance, among which the main active sites still need to be further explored. For this reason, CuCe catalysts were further compounded with typical elements (cobalt, Co) to study the main active sites and compositing effect by in-situ enhanced Raman and in-situ ultralow-temperature DRIFTS technologies. The main active site for both CuCe and CuCoCe catalysts was the same Cu–OV–Ce at the copper–cerium interface, named as asymmetric oxygen vacancy (ASOv). The dispersion of CuO and CeO2 species was promoted, and the formation energy of ASOv was decreased significantly from 1.502 to 0.854 eV after the addition of Co, which leads to an increase in the ASOv concentration. A small cobalt added can form more Co2+ species, improving the activity and stability. The activity of Cu1Co0.5Ce3 catalyst was significantly improved with 100% conversion of CO and toluene at 96 and 227 °C. Here, the ASOv was studied in relative quantification, showing consistency of catalytic activity and ASOv concentration. Meanwhile, the dynamic exchange of ASOv in the reactions was tracked, indicating that the redox equilibrium of ASOv can continuously produce new ASOV in Cu/Ce-based catalysts that cause long-term catalytic stability. In addition, it is almost difficult for CoCe and CoCu samples to form the ASOv, and the interaction between metals and metals was also weaker than that of CuCe and CuCoCe catalysts.

Ammonia is a promising hydrogen storage material because it is easy to store and decompose into COX-free hydrogen. A Ru-based catalyst exhibits good catalytic performance in ammonia decomposition, and enhancing the interaction between the Ru atoms and the support is an important way to further improve its catalytic activity. In this study, CeO2was prepared by calcination using a cerium-based metal–organic framework (MOF) as the precursor, and the number of oxygen vacancies on the surface of CeO2was regulated by hydrogen reduction. The XPS and Raman results showed that abundant oxygen vacancies were formed on the surface of these CeO2, and their number increased with an increase in the reduction time. The Ru/CeO2-4 h catalyst, using CeO2reduced for 4 h as the support, exhibited good catalytic activity in ammonia decomposition, reaching 98.9% ammonia conversion and 39.74 mmol gcat−1min−1hydrogen yield under the condition of GHSV = 36,000 mL gcat−1h−1at 500 °C. The XAFS results demonstrated that Ru was stably anchored with oxygen vacancies on the surface of CeO2via Ru-O-Ce bonds. Density functional theory calculations further showed that these bondings lower the reaction energy barrier for N-H bond cleavage, thereby significantly enhancing the catalytic activity.
