Bacterial-infected skin wounds caused by trauma remain a significant challenge in modern medicine. Clinically, there is a growing demand for wound dressings with exceptional antibacterial activity and robust regenerative properties. To address the need, this study proposes a novel multifunctional dressing designed to combine efficient gas exchange, effective microbial barriers, and precise drug delivery capabilities, thereby promoting cell proliferation and accelerating wound healing. This work reports the development of a 3D-printed hydrogel scaffold incorporating flavanone (FLA)-loaded ZIF-8 nanoparticles (FLA@ZIF-8 NPs) within a composite matrix of κ-carrageenan (KC) and konjac glucomannan (KGM). The scaffold forms a stable dual-network structure through the chelation of KC with potassium ions and intermolecular hydrogen bonding between KC and KGM. This dual-network structure not only enhances the mechanical stability of the scaffold but also improves its adaptability to complex wound environments. In mildly acidic wound conditions, FLA@ZIF-8 NPs release Zn 2+ and flavanone in a controlled manner, providing sustained antibacterial effects and promoting wound healing. In vivo studies using a rat full-thickness infected wound model demonstrated that the FLA@ZIF-8/KC@KGM hydrogel scaffold significantly accelerated wound healing, showcasing its superior performance in the treatment of infected wounds.

Wearable sensors can easily enable real-time and noninvasive glucose (Glu) monitoring, providing vital information for effectively preventing various complications caused by high glucose level. Here, a wearable sensor based on nanozyme-catalyzed cascade reactions is designed for Glu monitoring in sweat. Au nanoparticles (AuNPs) are anchored to the carbonated zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8-C), endowing the sensor with Glu oxidase (GOx)-like and peroxidase (POD)-like activity. A flexible screen-printed carbon electrode (SPCE) is decorated with the resultant AuNPs@ZIF-8-C, which is further modified with biocompatible and swellable calcium alginate (CA) gels for the preparation of the wearable Glu sensor. The linear range for Glu detection is 10∼300 μM with a limit of detection (LOD) of 4.99 μM, which covers the physiological Glu concentration range in human sweat (10–200 μM). The developed wearable Glu sensor can fit well with the skin tissues due to the flexibility of the SPCE, and thus it can be successfully applied in real-time and noninvasive monitoring of Glu in human sweat. Additionally, the wearable Glu sensor exhibits high antibacterial activity resulted from the generated hydroxyl radicals (·OH), enabling long-term Glu monitoring in sweat.

Artesunate (Art) with a unique peroxy-bridging bond can react with a ferrous ion and produce excess carbon-centered radicals, which cause irreversible damage to tumor cells. However, the antitumor effect of artesunate still faces challenges due to its poor water solubility and insufficient amount of ferrous ions in tumor cells. Herein, we constructed artesunate coordinated zeolite imidazole framework nanoplatforms (Art/ZIF NPs) coated with ferric ion-rutin network (Ru–Fe@Art/ZIF NPs) for synergy therapy. In virtue of zinc-ion-mediated coordination, Art was efficiently loaded into ZIF-8 NPs (loading capacity and rate are 29.58 and 30.73%) and responsively released under an acidic environment. Meanwhile, the introduction of rutin (a type of plant flavonoid) not only enabled tumor targeting via GLUT receptors but also reduced Fe3+ to Fe2+ under acidic conditions. Subsequently, these ferrous ions loading with Art enhance the tumor killing effect via radical-dependent cell cycle arrest. This “core–shell” autocatalytic nanoplatform provides a novel strategy for developing Art-based chemodynamic therapy.

The conventional methods of separating closely related minerals like chlorite and specularite present challenges. This study delved into the pre-adsorption effect of 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) in a reverse flotation system using dextrin as a depressant and dodecylamine as a collector through single mineral flotation experiments, contact angle tests, Zeta potential determination, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The aim was to facilitate reverse flotation by pre-introducing 8-HQ to create specific adsorption with Al/Mg elements on the chlorite surface, thereby enhancing chlorite's flotation ability. Single mineral flotation experiments demonstrated that 8-HQ effectively heightened the disparity in floatability between the two minerals. When 15 mg/L of 8-HQ was added at a pH of 8, chlorite recovered 82.15 percent, while specularite only produced 19.2 percent. Results from artificial mixed minerals substantiated the feasibility of single mineral flotation. Further investigation into adsorption mechanisms revealed that 8-HQ forms steric hindrance via chelation and hydrogen bonding, preventing dextrin from adhering to the metal elements on the chlorite surface. The inherent hydrophobicity also promotes the formation of DDA hydrophobic flocs. Conversely, there was no notable adsorption between 8-HQ and specularite. Specularite could be specifically depressed by dextrin, enabling the selective separation of the two minerals. Finally, a model depicting the potential adsorption of 8-HQ on the mineral surface was proposed.

Multi-responsive drug-delivery systems have been widely explored to enable specific delivery to target sites. Here, interleukin-4 (IL-4), an anti-inflammatory cytokine, is first encapsulated in situ inside a zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) to form IL-4@ZIF-8, which is subsequently coated with a diselenide block copolymer to obtain IL-4@ZIF-8@Se-Se-polymer. This delivery system enables redox-responsive release of IL-4 by the diselenide copolymer and a pH-triggered release by ZIF-8. Moreover, IL-4 release is precisely controlled stepwise by the stimuli response, with the dissociation of the diselenide copolymer, and breakdown of the ZIF-8 structure. The targeted release property of the IL-4@ZIF-8@Se-Se-polymer endows the materials with efficient macrophage immune regulation, as systematically demonstrated in vitro. This study provides an effective example of the delivery and on-demand release of IL-4, and may find promising applications in tissue engineering for the management of inflammation.

In an effort to explore the potential application prospects of membrane separation technology in treating nuclear-contaminated wastewater, a TFN nanofiltration membrane incorporating the ZIF-8@Ti 3 C 2 T x nanocomposite was successfully synthesized using the interfacial polymerization method. This involved doping the microemulsion of ZIF-8@Ti 3 C 2 T x into the aqueous (organic) phase. The morphology and structure of ZIF-8@MXene nanocomposites and TFN nanofiltration membranes were characterized. The selective removal of ReO 4 - from simulated radioactive wastewater using the TFN nanofiltration membrane was evaluated. The results indicated that the ZIF-8@Ti 3 C 2 T x composite, uniformly dispersed in the polymer, effectively enhanced the pore structure and polarity of the nanofiltration membrane, thereby improving its permeability. The electronegativity of ZIF-8@Ti 3 C 2 T x also enhanced the negative charge on the surface of the polymer membrane, significantly improving the membrane’s performance in rejecting ReO 4 - while maintaining a low retention rate for Na + . This design facilitates the efficient selection of ReO 4 - from high-salinity wastewater. In addition, the layer spacing of Ti 3 C 2 T x further improved the screening of ReO 4 - and Na + . However, when 0.75 g·L −1 of microemulsion was added, it became challenging to disperse the microemulsion completely in the organic phase. This led to the agglomeration of composites in the nanofiltration membrane, weakening both flux and selectivity. Optimal performance was achieved with a microemulsion doping amount of 0.5 g·L −1 , resulting in the nanofiltration membrane M-O-1 exhibiting the best performance (Jp = 41.92 L·m 2 ·h −1 and R(ReO 4 - ) = 65.81%). Even at a high salt concentration (20 g·L −1 ), the M-O-1 membrane retained approximately 55% of pollutants after continuous operation for 5 h, indicating that the TFN nanofiltration membrane containing ZIF-8@Ti 3 C 2 T x holds significant promise for selectively extracting 99 Tc from wastewater with a high salt content.

In this study, Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8) nanomaterials were synthesized using a co-precipitation one-pot method that uses ethanol, methanol, and water as solvents for the precursors (2-methylimidazole and Zinc nitrate hexahydrate), resulting in yields of 66.77%, 73.14%, and 68.12%, respectively. The as-synthesized ZIF-8 nanomaterials were thoroughly characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. The X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the crystallite size of ethanol-based ZIF-8 (24.76 ± 1.67 nm) was smaller than those synthesized in water (26.92 ± 1.89 nm) and methanol (31.39 ± 1.03 nm). However, methanol-based ZIF-8 exhibited lower crystallinity (85.93%) than water-based ZIF-8 (91.48%) and ethanol-based ZIF-8 (92.71%). Zeta potential studies revealed that ethanol-based ZIF-8 had a larger surface charge (+37 mV) than water-based ZIF-8 (+35 mV) or methanol-based ZIF-8 (+24 mV). Transmission electron microscopy analysis confirmed particle sizes of 54.35 ± 2.11 nm for ethanol-based ZIF-8, 57.91 ± 2.26 nm for water-based ZIF-8, and 63.25 ± 4.12 nm for methanol-based ZIF-8. Thermogravimetric analysis indicated thermal stability up to 800 °C, with mass losses of 55.98% for ethanol-ZIF-8, 50.12% for water-based ZIF-8, and 65.36% for methanol-based ZIF-8 by 600 °C. In antibacterial studies, water-based ZIF-8 exhibited the largest zone of growth inhibition (17.30 ± 0.26 mm) against Escherichia coli compared to ethanol-based ZIF-8 (15.57 ± 0.32 mm) and methanol-based ZIF-8 (14.70 ± 0.20 mm). Pearson's correlation study revealed that zeta potential, crystallinity, and antibacterial activity are positively related. Furthermore, water-based ZIF-8, with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 50 μg/100 μL, confirmed evident cell membrane disruption. Molecular docking experiments revealed ZIF-8's significant binding affinity for the E. coli protein 5AZC, supporting its robust antibacterial activity.

Dopamine (DA) is a widely present, calcium cholinergic neurotransmitter in the body, playing important roles in the central nervous system and cardiovascular system. Developing fast and sensitive DA detection methods is of great significance. Fluorescence-based methods have attracted much attention due to their advantages of easy operation, a fast response speed, and high sensitivity. This study prepared hydrophilic and high-performance CdS/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) for DA detection. The waterborne CdS/ZnS QDs were synthesized in one step using the amphiphilic polymer PEI-g-C14, obtained by grafting tetradecane (C14) to polyethyleneimine (PEI), as a template. The polyacrylonitrile nanofiber membrane (PAN-NFM) was prepared by electrospinning (e-spinning), and a metal organic frame (ZIF-8) was deposited in situ on the surface of the PAN-NFM. The CdS/ZnS QDs were loaded onto this substrate (ZIF-8@PAN-NFM). The results showed that after the deposition of ZIF-8, the water contact angle of the hydrophobic PAN-NFM decreased to within 40°. The nanofiber membrane loaded with QDs also exhibited significant changes in fluorescence in the presence of DA at different concentrations, which could be applied as a fast detection method of DA with high sensitivity. Meanwhile, the fluorescence on this PAN-NFM could be visually observed as it transitioned from a blue-green color to colorless, making it suitable for the real-time detection of DA.

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) technique has significant advantages in the detection of gaseous small molecules, but it still faces challenges such as low adsorption capacity of gaseous small molecules on the surface of the SERS substrate, and low detection sensitivity due to the small Raman scattering cross section. In this paper, a nucleophilic addition strategy based on Ag@Au@4-nitrophenylhydrazine (4-NPH) @zeolite imidazolium ester backbone material-8 (ZIF-8) is proposed for achieving highly sensitive SERS detection of gaseous acetone. The SERS sensing platform was constructed by synthesizing Ag@Au nanoparticles with a core-shell structure modified with 4-NPH as a Raman reporter molecule, which was then encapsulated in a ZIF-8 porous framework. The nucleophilic addition reaction mechanism between acetone and 4-NPH was systematically investigated using density-functional theory (DFT), which revealed the changes in Raman spectra of 4-NPH due to the reaction and provided a theoretical basis for the specific detection of acetone. In addition, the charge transfer effect of more adsorption sites between the reaction product and the nanogold surface further enhanced the SERS signal. The constructed SERS substrate was demonstrated to have a low relative standard deviation (RSD) as low as 4.8 % for the detection of gaseous acetone, which ensured high sensitivity and reliability, and could detect at a concentration of 100 ppb. The method's excellent immunity to interference in complex exhaled gases gives it the potential to be applied to the non-invasive diagnosis of diabetes, demonstrating significant clinical applications.

Peanut meal, as an important feed and protein source, is highly susceptible to aflatoxin contamination. Probiotics with the advantages of aiding digestion and improving intestinal function are regarded as potential ways to detoxify aflatoxins. In this study, six probiotic strains screened from peanut meal were identified and used for aflatoxin detoxification. The strain of Bacillus velezensis NWPZ-8 noted as A43 showed the best ability to detoxify aflatoxins. The optimized aflatoxin B1 detoxification conditions by A43 in peanut meal were proposed. At these conditions, the strain not only detoxified 75.29% aflatoxin B1 but also increased the content of protein and amino acids in peanut meal. It was found that the aflatoxins detoxification activity by A43 was mainly attributed to the extracellular proteins. Therefore, this study provides a potential probiotics strain that can be used for aflatoxin detoxification in peanut meal.

8-Epidiosbulbin E acetate (EEA), a furan-containing diterpenoid lactone and key component of Dioscorea bulbifera L., has been found to induce notable liver injury in mice through CYP3A-mediated metabolic activation to a cis -enedial reactive metabolite. EEA exposure at 25, 50, 100, or 200 µM triggered apoptosis in cultured mouse primary hepatocytes, evidenced by alterations in mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) pathway protein levels. Pretreatment with ketoconazole, vitamin C, glutathione ethyl ester, or 4-phenylbutyric acid effectively reduced the apoptotic ratio and restored the balance of mitochondrial and ER pathway protein levels impacted by EEA in primary hepatocytes. In contrast, pretreatment with L-buthionine sulfoximine exacerbated the apoptotic ratio and altered protein levels associated with the mitochondrial and ER pathways induced by EEA. In summary, metabolic activation, GSH depletion, and ROS are implicated in the induction of apoptosis. EEA triggered apoptosis in cultured primary hepatocytes via disruption of the crosstalk between the mitochondrial and ER pathways.

Polyether ether ketone (PEEK) is esteemed as a high-performance engineering polymer renowned for its exceptional mechanical properties and thermal stability. Nonetheless, the majority of polymer-based lubricating materials fail to meet the contemporary industrial demands for motion components regarding high speed, heavy loading, temperature resistance, and precise control. Utilizing 3D printing technology to design and fabricate intricately structured components, developing high-performance polymer self-lubricating materials becomes imperative to fulfill the stringent operational requirements of motion mechanisms. This study introduces a novel approach employing 3D printing technology to produce PEEK with varying filling densities and conducting in situ synthesis of zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) nanomaterials on its surface to enhance PEEK’s frictional performance. The research discusses the synthetic methodology, characterization techniques, and tribological performance evaluation of in situ synthesized ZIF-8 nanomaterials on PEEK surfaces. The findings demonstrate a significant enhancement in frictional performance of the composite material under low-load conditions, achieving a minimum wear rate of 4.68 × 10−6mm3/N·m compared to the non-grafted PEEK material’s wear rate of 1.091 × 10−5mm3/N·m, an approximately 1.3 times improvement. Detailed characterization and analysis of the worn surface of the steel ring unveil the lubrication mechanism of the ZIF-8 nanoparticles, thereby presenting new prospects for the diversified applications of PEEK.
