Levofloxacin (LFX), which is difficult to degrade effectively due to its molecular stability, has become an problem that needs to be solved urgently. The advanced oxidation technology of persulfate has received increasing attention from researchers. In this study, a Ce-MOF derivative (Ce-MOF-T) was prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and calcination, which synergistically responded to electroactivation to generate sulfate radicals for the efficient degradation of LFX. It has been proven that electrical activation and the Ce-MOF derivatives work together to generate sulfate radicals and effectively degrade LFX. Ce-MOF-550-modified carbon cloth was used as the cathode and a platinum electrode as the anode, the concentration of LFX was 20 mg·L−1, the loading of Ce-MOF-550 was 15 mg, pH = 5, the concentration of sodium persulfate (PMS) was 0.3 g·L−1, the current density was 100 A·m−2, and the degradation rate was 82.05% after 1 h of reaction and 95% after 3 h of reaction. After five cycle tests, the degradation rate was still higher than 75.00%, indicating that the material had good stability. In addition, the degradation of LFX was consistent with a quasi-primary kinetic reaction with apparent rate constants of 2.26 × 10−2min−1.

Ce: YAG- Al 2 O 3 composite ceramics are regarded as highly promising materials for laser illumination application due to their high luminous efficacy and thermal stability. Nevertheless, the Ce: YAG ceramics exhibit limited color rendering index (CRI) for indoor lighting due to their low red emission component. In this study, we synthesized high-performance Ce, Mn-doped (Y, Tb) 3 Al 5 O 12 –Al 2 O 3 composite ceramic phosphors via a vacuum solid-state sintering method. It was observed that the introduction of Mn 2+ ions created a second luminescence center with an emission peak centered at 580 nm. As the Mn 2+ concentration increased, the emission peak redshifted from 580 nm to 591 nm, leading to a significant enhancement in the color rendering index of the ceramics. The cross-energy transfer between Tb 3+ and Mn 2+ , Ce 3+ ions augmented the absorption and conversion of blue light by the ceramics, thereby reducing the correlated color temperature greatly. Based on these findings, ceramics with a Ce 3+ concentration of 3 at% and a Mn 2+ concentration of 4 at% exhibited the highest CRI values (81.3 and 75.6) under both laser excitation and LED excitation, establishing them as strong candidates for achieving high color rendering in white LED/LD illumination applications.

Photo-Fenton-like technology based on H 2 O 2 is considered as an ideal strategy to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) for antibiotic degradation, but O 2 overflow in the process severely limits the utilization efficiency of H 2 O 2 . Herein, we fabricate Bi 2 MoO 6 (BMO) photocatalyst modified with Frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) as a Fenton catalyst model for enhancing reuse of spilled O 2 . The FLPs created by the introduction of cerium and oxygen vacancy were found to contribute to regulate the electronic structure of BMO and further improve the acidic and basic properties of photocatalyst surface. More importantly, the frustrated acid and base sites can enhance the H 2 O 2 and O 2 interfacial adsorption process and provide an Ce 4+ -O v -O 2− active site on the surface of Ce-BMO nanosheets, which can promote O 2 /•O 2 − / 1 O 2 /H 2 O 2 redox cycles to achieve high H 2 O 2 utilization efficiency. Specifically, in the experiment using tetracycline as a photocatalytic degradation object, the degradation activity of Ce-BMO was 2.15 times higher than that of BMO pure phase. Quenching experiments and EPR assays also confirmed that 1 O 2 and •O 2 − were the dominant oxidative species. This study systematically reveals the design of Fenton photocatalytic active sites at the atomic scale and provides new insights into constructing FLPs photocatalysts with high H 2 O 2 utilization efficiency.

Graphical H 2 reduction reduces part of Cu 2+ to Cu + and Ce 4+ to Ce 3+ on the catalyst surface, and Cu and Ce can be stably anchored on the surface of the Cu−Ce/AC catalyst, which effectively improves the dispersion of the Cu component, and then slows down the loss of metal Cu. In this study, we utilized the carbon precursor derived from walnut shells to synthesize a series of Ce-modified Cu-based carbon catalysts (Cu−Ce/AC) via the impregnation method. We investigated the performance and stability of Cu−Ce/AC catalysts for CWAO phenol after H 2 reduction at various temperatures. The Cu−Ce/AC-250 catalyst exhibited its highest performance at 250 °C, achieving complete phenol conversion. Characterization results from techniques including XRD, BET, FTIR, ICP-OES, SEM-EDS, XPS, and H 2 -TPR indicated that the active components of the H 2 -reduced catalysts were more evenly distributed across the catalyst surface, thereby enhancing the availability of reactive sites for phenol oxidation. Simultaneously, under the appropriate temperature, the H 2 atmosphere can reduce a portion of the Cu 2+ on the catalyst surface to Cu + , thereby mitigating the loss of Cu components.

Catalysts loaded with metal oxides of M (M = Mn, Co, Ce) were synthesized by deposition precipitation method using cold rolled sludge (iron oxide as the main component) as a raw material for the selective catalytic reduction of NO x by ammonia (NH 3 -SCR). Among the various formulations, the co-supported catalyst containing 5 % Mn and 5 % Co on CRS-400 exhibited exceptional SCR performance, achieving over 90 % conversion of NO x from 80 °C to 200 °C. The addition of 5 % Mn and 5 % Co as active components resulted in an increase in the specific surface area for catalytic performance and an enhancement of the redox capacity, leading to a significant improvement in catalyst activity. The catalyst’s efficient denitration performance was attributed to the synergistic interaction between Mn, Co, and Fe oxides, resulting in a catalyst with a higher proportion of adsorbed oxygen, as well as an elevated composition of Mn 4+ and Fe 2+ species. The catalyst demonstrated excellent SCR activity at low-temperatures, indicating its potential for downstream applications in soot treatment equipment. This would achieve the dual benefits of purifying the atmosphere and disposing of solid waste.

An efficient solid acid catalyst (Ce/Kaolin clay) was prepared and investigated for transesterification of cottonseed oil to fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). The catalysts were characterized by XRD, BET, and NH3-TPD measurements. A new integrated apparatus for extraction and transesterification of cottonseed oil was developed. The effects of cerium loading, catalyst calcination temperature, methanol flow rate, reaction temperature, reaction time, and catalyst amount were also investigated. The results indicated that the Ce/Kaolin clay showed high catalytic activity under the calcination temperature of 700 oC and cerium loading of 0.05 g/g. The optimum transesterification reaction conditions were as follows: methanol flow rate 4.0 mL/min, reaction temperature 60 oC,reaction time 3 h, and catalyst amount 15 g. Under these conditions, the yield of FAME was up to 91%.The catalytic activity of Ce/Kaolin clay still remained high after 4 times of repeated use. The results indicated that the Ce/Kaolin clay catalysts had a good potential for use in the large-scale production of FAME.

In this study, Ru catalysts supported on Ce-Al composite carriers were prepared using the precipitation-hydrothermal method, significantly enhancing ammonia decomposition efficiency. The test results show that the Ru/3Ce-Al catalyst, with a Ru loading of only 0.8 wt%, achieves a reaction rate of 14.17 mmol g cat −1 min −1 at 500 °C, and reaches a 95 % conversion rate at 525 °C. No decline in efficiency was observed after 48 h of durability testing, which significantly reduces the usage of Ru. The RuO 2 particle size in the samples was only 2–4 nm. Ce-Al composite increased the specific surface area and pore volume of the catalyst, facilitating the uniform distribution of Ru. Additionally, it increased the number of surface acidic sites and strengthened the metal-support interaction. The unique low redox potential and oxygen vacancies of CeO 2 allowed for faster electron transfer to the Ru surface. DFT calculations revealed that bridge site adsorption was more stable, with the rate-determining step of the ammonia decomposition reaction being the formation of N 2 . Ce-Al composite catalysts enhanced NH 3 adsorption strength and lowered the reaction energy barrier.

The urgent need for remediation of thallium (Tl)-contaminated soils arises from its widespread presence as a poisonous heavy metal (HM), coupled with numerous challenges such as high costs, long durations, secondary pollution risks, and technological limitations. In the study, a novel approach has been introduced to the remediation of Tl-contaminated soils using calcium sulphoaluminate cement. This innovation involves the employment of nonthermal plasma-irradiated polyvalent Ce-Mn (hydro)oxide-modified nanographene (NTP-P-Ce-Mn-NGs) to intensify the cementation and immobilization of Tl species. The chemical speciation of Tl contaminants influenced by the dosage of NTP-P-Ce-Mn-NGs in the cementation was measured to explore the potential enhancement mechanisms brought by NTP-P-Ce-Mn-NGs in the sulphoaluminate cementation. Comprehensive strategies were adopted to explore the reaction pathways. In orthogonal (OD) experiments, compressive strengths ranging from 22.14 to 56.78 MPa in sulphoaluminate-cemented cubes were achieved. Remarkably, when NTP-P-Ce-Mn-NGs were introduced, the leached Tl concentration was reduced to 0.21–21.46 µg/L. This significant reduction was attributed to the NTP-P-Ce-Mn-NGs-induced more uniform hydration reactions and a more holistic microstructure. The presence of diverse valent Ce and Mn species within the matrix was confirmed, revealing a reliable interaction between NTP-irradiated high-valent Mn and Ce with monovalent Tl ions. This interaction induced multiple redox reactions, immobilizing Tl contaminants within the matrix and the cementation encapsulation. This study represents a significant milestone in Tl pollution control, paving the way for more efficient and cost-effective soil remediation strategies.

A transition metal chelate unstable at a high oxidation state, diperiodatocuprate (III) (K 5 [Cu(HIO 6 ) 2 ], DPC), was synthesized and applied in the luminol-based chemiluminescence (CL) system for highly sensitive CE end-column detection of dopamine (DA). This method was based on the fact that DA enhanced the CL emission resulting from the reaction between luminol and DPC in alkaline medium. The DPC-luminol-DA CL system showed very intensive emission and very fast kinetic characteristics, thus resulting in a high sensitivity in flow-through detection mode for CE. Under optimal conditions, the linear range was 1.0 × 10 −8 –5.0 × 10 −5 g/mL ( R 2 = 0.9984) with a limit of detection of 6.0 × 10 −9 g/mL (S/N = 3). The RSDs of the peak height and the migration time were about 4.2 and 2.4% for a standard sample at 3.0 × 10 −6 g/mL ( n = 5), respectively. The presented method has been successfully used for the determination of DA in commercial preparation and human urine samples after clean-up using SPE.

K-doped Mn–Ce solid solution catalysts were synthesized using a combination of coprecipitation and hydrothermal methods, demonstrating excellent performance in benzene oxidation. The catalyst K 1 Ce 5 Mn 5 exhibited comparable activity to noble metal catalysts, achieving a 90 % benzene conversion at approximately 194 ℃. Durable tests under dry and moist conditions revealed that the catalyst could maintain its activity for 50 h at 218 ℃ and 236 ℃, respectively. Characterization results indicated that the catalyst’s enhanced activity resulted from the weakened Mn–O bonding caused by the introduction of K + , facilitating the activation of oxygen and its involvement in the reaction. CeO x , the main crystalline phase of Mn–Ce solid solutions, provided abundant oxygen vacancies for capturing and activating oxygen molecules for the weakened Mn–O structures. This conclusion was further supported by partial density of state analysis from density functional theory computations, revealing that the introduction of K + weakened the orbital hybridization of Mn3d and O2p. Finally, in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier-transform spectroscopy ( in situ DRIFTS) studies on Ce 5 Mn 5 and K 1 Ce 5 Mn 5 catalysts suggested that the introduction of K + promoted the conversion of adsorbed benzene. Furthermore, intermediate products were transformed more rapidly for K 1 Ce 5 Mn 5 compared to Ce 5 Mn 5 .

Widespread and ineffective dye treatment in aquatic environment leads to serious pollution problems, threatening ecology and human health. Herein, manganese cerium bimetallic oxide cathode material (MnCeO x @GF) was prepared by hydrothermal method combined with calcination, and the electrochemical Fenton degradation performance of a typical dye Rhodamine B (Rh B) was investigated. The results show that the degradation of Rh B by MnCeO x @GF can reach 96.5 % within 2 h in acidic environment and continue to perform effectively after 4 repeated experiments. Combined with SEM and electrochemical test results, it can be seen that the bimetallic composite oxides formed by manganese and cerium on the surface of the support can effectively enhance the catalytic activity of the material, the addition of cerium changes the morphology of manganese oxides and promotes the generation of multiple valence composite oxides of transition metals, and improves the degradation of Rh B. Based on the free radical masking experiments, hydroxyl radical (·OH) is the main active substance in the electro-Fenton degradation process. This work not only provides a way to design and manufacture cathode materials for in situ electrosynthesis of H 2 O 2 , but also provides an important reference for improving the reusability of cathodes for sustainable dye wastewater treatment.

Since catalytic chemoselective reduction of corresponding nitroarenes is a significant route to produce functionalized anilines, developing inexpensive and highly active catalyst is imperia. Herein, the Co-Ce-H 2 salen-hmta composite was first prepared by grinded completely the mixture of Co-H 2 Salen and hexamethylenetetramine (hmta) in 1:1 mol ratio in a mortar. The 3d–4f hetero-metal Co-Ce-H 2 salen coordination polymer acted as a support precursor and hmta provided the nitrogen source. Then, a target catalyst of Co/NC-CeO 2 -hmta were afforded by pyrolysis of Co-Ce-H 2 salen-hmta composite at 800°C in the presence of argon atmosphere. When the target catalyst of Co/NC-CeO 2 -hmta and reference catalysts were applied for the hydrogenation of nitroarenes under N 2 H 4 , the target catalyst of Co/NC-CeO 2 -hmta exhibited better performance than reference catalysts in terms of conversion, yield, selectivity, and recyclability. Spectral analysis suggested that the high catalytic performance of a target catalyst of Co/NC-CeO 2 -hmta were attributed to highly dispersed metallic Co 0 , rich oxygen vacancies, and nitrogen-doped carbon matrix.
