The Bayer process is the primary method for alumina production. However, thiosulfate ions (S 2 O 3 2− ) present in the involved sodium aluminate solution are difficult to remove and adversely affect this process, thereby limiting the large-scale application of high‑sulfur bauxite. To address this issue, this study designed and synthesized a composite photocatalyst Co-TiO 2 @C based on ZIF-8-derived porous carbon as a carrier. Moreover, the study combined wet oxidation and photocatalytic oxidation to investigate the photocatalytic S 2 O 3 2− degradation activity and stability of this photocatalyst in a sodium aluminate solution. Results indicated that the ZIF-8-derived porous carbon carrier had a high specific surface area and highly porous structure, which were conducive to the loading and dispersion of Co-TiO 2 catalytic components. Moreover, it formed a composite photocatalytic material with good adsorption performance and abundant active sites. High-temperature pyrolysis led to the formation of graphite structures with excellent electron transfer properties on porous carbon supports, while Co doping reduced the bandgap energy of the loaded nano-TiO 2 , resulting in excellent photocatalytic performance of the composite catalyst under visible-light irradiation (The bandgap is 2.78 eV, and the photocurrent density under xenon lamp can reach 2.41 μA/cm 2 ). The adsorption degradation of S 2 O 3 2− ions by Co-TiO 2 @C/900 reached 29.6% within 30 min. After 60 min of light irradiation, the photocatalytic degradation rate of S 2 O 3 2− ions by Co-TiO 2 @C/900 can reach 92.5% under xenon lamp irradiation, which is 38.4% higher than that of P25. Moreover, the degradation efficiency of S 2 O 3 2− ions by Co-TiO 2 @C/900 only decreased by 9.5% after 6 cycles of experiences. The results of quenching experiments and paramagnetic electron resonance indicated that the degradation mechanism of S 2 O 3 2− depended on the generation of reactive oxygen species, such as hydroxyl radicals and superoxide radicals, under light irradiation.

Metal-organic framework (MOF)-based membranes show promising potential for gas separation. However, it remains challenging to fully exploit the synergistic advantages of MOF crystals and polymers for fabricating highly loaded mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). Herein, a highly loaded ZIF-8 ultrathin MMM was prepared in situ via a stepwise growth strategy. Driven by the diffusion rate difference between the ligand and polyethyleneimine (PEI-600), preferentially formed ZIF-8 crystals served as the dominant phase, while the subsequently developed PEI-Zn 2+ crosslinked network acted as an intergranular densification phase. Owing to the reduction in ZIF-8 crystal size induced by PEI, the MMMs exhibited an ultrathin thickness of only 160 nm. Furthermore, PEI enhanced the molecular sieving ability of crystals and membrane's CO 2 /N 2 solubility selectivity by regulating the pore structure and membrane composition. With a high ZIF-8 loading of 84.3 %, the resulting MMMs demonstrated an excellent CO 2 permeance of 3177.4 GPU, accompanied by a CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 36.9. Notably, it maintained stable separation performance after bending and during long-term operation, showing good processability and industrial application potential. This strategy not only reinforces the advantages of MOF-based gas separation membranes but also provides a new paradigm for fabricating highly loaded MMMs.

In nanomaterials containing multiple metal atoms, interactions between metal atoms can generate the Fenton effect, making them a novel antibacterial agent that combines photodynamic and chemodynamic properties. However, conventional single-atom or multi-atom nanomaterials are limited by their specific surface area and porosity, resulting in relatively low photocatalytic efficiency. Herein, we developed a nanzyme antibacterial agent based on a porous ZIF-8 metal-organic framework incorporated with Pt and CuS via a straightforward method. Under low-concentration near-infrared (NIR) light irradiation, the CuS enables the nanzyme to rapidly raise the reaction system temperature to about 50 °C within 5 min. Furthermore, facilitated by charge transfer between Cu and Pt metals and the prominent Fenton-like activity of Pt, the system efficiently catalyzes hydroxyl radical generation from trace amounts of H 2 O 2. This mechanism synergistically integrates photodynamic and chemodynamic actions for antibacterial efficacy. The designed CuS@Pt@ZIF-8 nanzyme achieves a bacterial elimination rate of over 95% against common bacteria when subjected to irradiation with 808 nm NIR light. In vivo experiments in mice demonstrated a wound healing rate of up to 98% within 7 days. Additionally, experiments on plants and animals demonstrated that this nanzyme has minimal toxicity. The broad-spectrum Fenton-like catalytic system provide an efficient strategy for drug-resistant bacterial wound infections under combined photodynamic and chemical dynamics therapy, offering a new avenue for the development of clinical drugs.

Multi-layer graphene oxide (GO) membranes show great perspective in vast fields due to special two-dimensional structure. However, pure GO membranes generally face main obstacles of low flux, weak interlayer interaction and poor stability, which hinder their wide application in separation. Introduction of nano-porous crystals into interlayer of GO nanosheets to form 3D/2D structure is a potential strategy to overcome these issues. In this study, novel polyphenol etched hollow MOF/GO composite membrane was first synthesized employing modified hollow metal organic frameworks with strong hydrophilicity and hollow structure by one-step etching-aided cross-linking method. MOF nanoparticles with hollow structure expanded interlayer spacing of GO nanosheets and brought about formation of additional water channels, significantly reducing water transfer resistance. Meanwhile, nano-porous crystal MOFs modified by phenolic materials were able to cross-link adjacent GO nanosheets via π–π interfacial interactions to achieve stable structure and increase anti-swelling property of membranes. The pores with abundant hydroxyl groups provided strong free energy barrier for ions at medium and low concentrations of ionic strength , therefore not only greatly improved membrane permeaselectivity, but also enhanced anti-fouling performance. The prepared eZIF-8/GO nanofiltration membrane exhibited excellent permeate flux of 16.4 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 , 382% higher than pure GO membrane, and competitive Na 2 SO 4 rejection of 86.3%. By simply adjusting GO loading to further reduce membrane thickness, the permeate flux reached up to 45.4 L m −2 h −1 bar −1 with high rejection more than 99% for organic molecules. These results indicate that novel MOF/GO composite membranes have broad application prospects in desalination and water treatment.

Ultralight aerogels with low bulk density, highly porous nature, and functional performance have received significant focus in the field of water pollution treatment. Here, high-crystallinity, large surface-aera metal frame-work (ZIF-8) was efficiently utilized to assist in the preparation of ultralight yet highly oil and organic solvent adsorption capacity, double-network cellulose nanofibers/chitosan-based aerogels through a physical entanglement and scalable freeze-drying approach. After chemical vapor deposition with methyltrimethoxysilane, a hydrophobic surface was obtained with a water contact angle of 132.6°. The synthetic ultralight aerogel had low density (15.87 mg/cm 3 ) and high porosity (99.01 %). Moreover, the aerogel had a three-dimensional porous structure, which endowed it with high adsorption capacity (35.99 to 74.55 g/g) for organic solvent, and outstanding cyclic stability (>88 % of the adsorption capacity after 20 cycles). At the same time, aerogel removes oil from various oil/water mixtures by gravity alone and has excellent separation performance. This work holding excellent properties in terms of convenient, low-cost, scalability to manufacture environmentally friendly biomass-based materials for oily water pollution treatment.

Silicon (Si) shows great potential for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) due to its high theoretical capacity and low working potential. However, its intrinsic low electronic conductivity and large volume expansion during lithiation result in dramatic capacity fading and poor rate capability. Herein, a dual-confinement strategy is proposed for improving the lithium storage properties of Si by uniformly anchoring Si nanoparticles within a MXene/ZIF-8 derived carbon framework. In the Si/MXene@C composite, Si nanoparticles tightly bond with MXene and carbon through the formed interfacial Si–O–Ti and Si–C bonds, respectively, which is beneficial for alleviating the volume expansion of Si and promoting the interfacial charge transfer. Therefore, the Si/MXene@C composite exhibits excellent lithium storage performances in terms of high capacity (1006.1 mAh g–1 at 100 mA g–1), stable cycle performance (862.9 mAh g–1 after 150 cycles at 100 mA g–1), and superior rate capability (233.3 mAh g–1 at 5 A g–1), indicating its promising potential as an anode material for next-generation high-performance LIBs.

The unique features of high porosity, shape selectivity, and multiple active sites make metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) promising as novel stationary phases for high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). However, the wide particle size distribution and irregular shape of conventional MOFs lead to lower column efficiency of such MOF-packed columns. Herein, the fabrication of monodisperse MOF@SiO 2 core–shell microspheres as the stationary phase for HPLC to overcome the above-mentioned problems is reported. Zeolitic imidazolate framework 8 (ZIF-8) was used as an example of MOFs due to its permanent porosity, uniform pore size, and exceptional chemical stability. Unique carboxyl-modified silica spheres were used as the support to grow the ZIF-8 shell. The fabricated monodisperse ZIF-8@SiO 2 packed columns (5 cm long × 4.6 mm i.d.) show high column efficiency (23 000 plates m −1 for bisphenol A) for the HPLC separation of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (bisphenol A, β-estradiol, and p -( tert -octyl)phenol) and pesticides (thiamethoxam, hexaflumuron, chlorantraniliprole, and pymetrozine) within 7 min with good relative standard deviations for 11 replicate separations of the analytes (0.01–0.39, 0.65–1.7, 0.70–1.3, and 0.17–0.91 % for retention time, peak area, peak height, and half peak width, respectively). The ZIF-8@SiO 2 microspheres combine the advantages of the good column packing properties of the uniform monodisperse silica microspheres and the separation ability of the ZIF-8 crystals. Graphical Core strength : Monodisperse ZIF-8@SiO 2 (ZIF-8=zeolitic imidazolate framework 8) core–shell microspheres have been fabricated through controllable growth of a ZIF-8 shell on spherical carboxylate-terminated SiO 2 cores (see figure). The metal–organic framework material is suitable as a stationary phase for fast and highly efficient HPLC separation.

Bead-like PAN/ZIF-8 nanofiber membranes, of which the commercial ZIF-8 nanoparticles attached to the surface of PAN nanofibers, were prepared by a simple one-step electrospinning method. The fiber structures, electrospinning parameters and adsorption capacity to methyl blue were investigated. ZIF-8 distributed uniformly on the nanofiber, and the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second-order kinetics. Maximum adsorption capacity was obtained as 224.37 mg/g at ZIF-8 concentration of 10 wt%, methyl blue concentration of 100 mg/L, and time of 180 min. Our work provides a simple, cost-effective process for the fabrication of MOFs nanofiber membranes with good adsorption capacity that suitable for practical commercial applications.

Large-scale utilization of hydrogen for fuel cells and chemical manufacturing imposes urgent demands on hydrogen sensing materials with superior sensitivity and selectivity. Herein, we successfully fabricated a Ni-BTC@ZIF-8 MOF-on-MOF heterostructure using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as a stabilizer and bridging agent. The hierarchical porous architecture enables size-selective microporous sieving in the outer ZIF-8 layer, facilitating H 2 permeation while blocking larger interfering molecules. This selective mass transfer optimizes H 2 accessibility at the sensing interface. Owing to the favorable mass-transport behaviour, the Ni-BTC@ZIF-8 sensor delivers an ultrahigh selectivity with a response value of 6.0 toward 20 ppm H 2 at 200 ℃, alongside an exceptionally fast recovery speed (∼6 s). Moreover, the device demonstrates excellent cycling stability and long-term reliability. This work further probes the underlying mechanism responsible for the improved H 2 -sensing performance of the MOF-on-MOF heterostructure, which arises from interfacial synergistic effects. Specifically, the intimate ZIF-8/Ni-BTC contact affords selective gas-transport channels from ZIF-8 and efficient electron-conduction pathways, with Ni-BTC serving as the active sensing layer for signal transduction. Such a synergistic interplay optimizes the coupling between molecular-sieving and sensing response. These findings provide a feasible and scalable paradigm for constructing novel high-performance hydrogen gas sensors.

The solubility of 8-Hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) was investigated
in
16 pure solvents, including eight alcohols (methanol, ethanol, n -propanol, isopropanol, n -butanol, isobutanol, n -pentanol, isopentanol), four ketones (2-butanone, 2-pentanone,
cyclopentanone, cyclohexanone), three esters (ethyl formate, methyl
acetate, ethyl acetate) and acetonitrile. The stability of the crystalline
form during dissolution was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction
(XRPD), and the melting properties were characterized via differential
scanning calorimetry (DSC). Five thermodynamic models, namely the
modified Apelblat equation, the λ h model, the
nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model, the Wilson model, and the Yaws
model, were employed to correlate the experimental solubility data.
The fitting performance of each model was assessed using the coefficient
of determination ( R 2 ), relative average
deviation (RAD), and root-mean-square deviation (RMSD). The results
demonstrate that the molar solubility of 8-HQ increases monotonically
with temperature, and all five models provide satisfactory correlation
of the experimental data. Furthermore, mixing thermodynamic properties
(Gibbs free energy, enthalpy, and entropy) calculated from Wilson
model parameters reveal that mixing between 8-HQ and every solvent
is spontaneous and entropy-driven. This work provides a comprehensive
solubility database for 8-HQ, offering essential thermodynamic evidence
and model support for the design of high-yield crystallization processes.

A macroscopic P-ZIF-8/PDA/MF adsorbent was fabricated by substituting conventional zinc precursors with layered porous zinc oxide (P-ZnO) on polydopamine (PDA)-functionalized melamine foam (MF). The composite exhibited exceptional adsorption capacity for chlortetracycline hydrochloride from wastewater, with a Langmuir-modeled maximum of 1320 mg/g at pH 6. Systematic evaluation of environmental parameters─including pH gradients, ionic strength variations, and competitive ion interference─revealed robust performance under various aqueous conditions. In addition, FT-IR and XPS analyses were performed to characterize P-ZIF-8/PDA/MF both prior to adsorption and following the adsorption process in order to clarify its adsorption behavior. The analysis indicates that the uptake by P-ZIF-8/PDA/MF mainly proceeds through monolayer chemisorption, which results from the combined contributions of hydrogen-bond interactions, π–π stacking, and pH-dependent electrostatic attraction.

In this work, a novel ternary heterojunction consisting
of Zn vacancy-rich
zinc oxide (Zn 1– x O), a zeolitic
imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8), and cobalt phthalocyanine (CoPc)
was fabricated for photocatalytic N 2 fixation. The Zn 1– x O/ZIF-8 composite with bridged O–Zn–N
bonding was synthesized via in situ growth of ZIF-8 on Zn 1– x O, and it possessed a large surface area favorable
for N 2 adsorption. The incorporation of CoPc with dispersed
Co–N 4 (II) sites enhanced light harvesting and N 2 activation. Zn vacancies and coupled type II/Z-scheme charge
transfer pathways in the heterojunction accelerated the separation
of photogenerated charge carriers. As a result, the optimized catalyst
exhibited superior and stable photocatalytic N 2 reduction
performance via an alternating pathway in water, with an NH 4 + production rate of 65.2 μmol g –1 h –1 , which is 17.0 times higher than that of ZnO.
This study develops a novel ZnO-based heterojunction that simultaneously
optimizes multiple key factors for efficient photocatalytic N 2 fixation.
