Background This study aimed to determine the optimal fermentation conditions and to characterize extracellular differential metabolites of Streptomyces rochei strain W71. The inhibition rate of its fermentation supernatant against Phytophthora nicotianae was used as the evaluation index to assess anti-oomycete activity. Methods The fermentation conditions of strain W71 were optimized through single-factor experiments combined with response surface methodology (RSM: Plackett–Burman design, steepest ascent, and Box–Behnken design). Untargeted liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) metabolomic analysis was then performed to identify extracellular metabolites and elucidate the key metabolic pathways involved. Results The optimal fermentation conditions for strain W71 were as follows: maltose: 20.0 g/L, yeast extract powder: 2.5 g/L, NaCl: 1.0 g/L, working volume: 100 mL/250 mL, inoculum size: 5.55%, agitation speed: 200 rpm, initial pH: 8.66, temperature: 29.8 ℃, and fermentation time: 8 days. Under these conditions, the inhibition rate of the fermentation broth reached 92.90%, representing a 6.78-fold increase compared with the pre-optimization level. LC–MS metabolomic analysis identified 1,771 differential metabolites in extracellular extracts after optimization, of which 1,479 were upregulated and 292 were downregulated. The major metabolite classes included organic halogen compounds, organic acids and derivatives, and aromatic metabolites. KEGG enrichment analysis revealed 20 significantly altered pathways, among which ABC transporters, amino acid biosynthesis, and the pentose phosphate pathway were identified as key metabolic routes. Conclusion Optimization of fermentation conditions for strain W71 significantly enhanced the antifungal activity of its fermentation broth against P. nicotianae and altered extracellular metabolic pathways, leading to substantial regulation of extracellular metabolite profiles.

This study introduces an innovative gas-generating reaction assisted headspace approach for precise quantification of lithium cobalt oxide using headspace GC. The approach utilizes gas chromatographic measurement of carbon dioxide generated through redox reaction between the analyte and oxalic acid in acidified sealed vials. Method validation demonstrated reliable analytical performance, with high precision and acceptable recovery rates in spiked samples. The automated headspace GC technique provides substantial benefits for the rapid quality control of lithium cobalt oxide products. Additionally, this gas-evolution based strategy establishes a framework for indirect determination methods through headspace analysis. Graphical abstract

A porous wollastonite ceramic with high porosity and low density has been successfully fabricated at low temperature with silicate tailings and electrolytic manganese slag (MS) as primary raw materials in this study. The influences of calcination temperature, SiC, and MS addition amounts on porosity, water adsorption, pore size distribution, bulk density, and bending strength were systematically studied. The results showed that 0.4 wt% of SiC was optimal for the ceramic foaming at the sintering temperature of 1140 °C. The ceramics of porosity reduced from 78.4% to 63.7%, bulk density elevated from 0.96 to 1.13 g/cm3, and bending strength increased from 8.43 to 11.22 MPa as the MS increased from 8.33 wt% to 41.67 wt%. Moreover, the best corrosion resistance performance reached to 99.55% with 8.33 wt% MS content and a sintering temperature of 1160 °C. This work is of significance for the solid waste utilization.

Blue perovskite quantum dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) are highly attractive for new generation high-definition displays, but their practical deployment is hindered by severe efficiency roll-off at high brightness (>4000 cd m − ²) while maintaining high color purity (CIEy < 0.1). This roll-off arises mainly from non-radiative losses induced by exposed dangling bonds, strong inter-dot coupling, and low permittivity. To conquer this challenge, we develop a multifunctional molecule passivation strategy utilizing 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate (EMIMPF₆). The [PF₆] − anions coordinate with lead dangling bonds, cesium sites, and weaken coupling, while [EMIM]⁺ cations suppress bromine-related defects and inhibit Auger recombination, collectively reducing exciton quenching pathways. This treatment increases the photoluminescence quantum yield of QD films from 78% to 92% and enables spectrally high color purity blue emission at 472 nm (CIEy = 0.091). Crucially, the resulting devices deliver a record-high external quantum efficiency (EQE) exceeding 20% at 6441 cd m − ² and maintain 18.47% EQE at 9587 cd m − ² with nearly eliminated roll-off, representing the best performance to date for blue perovskite QLEDs (CIEy < 0.1). Moreover, the operational lifetime improves by an order of magnitude compared with previous reports.

The improvement in efficiency and stability of inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is primarily constrained by the charge-carrier and energy losses at the interface of perovskite active layer/charge-carrier transport layers. Herein, a kind of dipolar molecule, 4-aminocyclohexanone hydrochloride (ACHCl), is introduced to the surface of perovskite films in PSCs with p-i-n structure. This surface modification ingeniously utilizes the surface defects of perovskite films to anchor the dipolar molecule, thus inducing surface polarization, which not only effectively reduces interfacial defects but also optimizes the energy-level alignment between the interfaces. Specifically, the carbonyl group and chloride ion on ACHCl anchors on the uncoordinated lead ion defects and fills in the halide vacancies on perovskite surface, respectively, which effectively alleviates the trap-state density, thereby reducing the carrier losses caused by defect-assisted recombination at the interface of perovskite layer/hole transport layer. Meanwhile, the anchoring effect of ACHCl facilitates the formation of a relatively ordered cation-dipole layer and induces surface polarization, resulting in more favorable energy-level alignment and enhanced charge-carrier extraction, ultimately reducing interfacial energy losses. Consequently, the effective reduction in interfacial losses facilitates the ACHCl-modified devices to achieve a power conversion efficiency of 26.12% and improved stability.

Inflammation is a pivotal driver of the progression from metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), an aggressive form associated with substantial liver-related mortality. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the initiation and persistence of liver inflammation remain poorly defined. Here, we demonstrated a previously unrecognized role for hepatic acetyl-CoA synthetase short-chain family member 2 (ACSS2) in MASH, showing that ACSS2 upregulation in patients exacerbates MASH progression by functioning as an epigenetic regulator, independent of its canonical lipogenic role. Mechanistically, ACSS2, in complex with lysine acetyltransferase 5 (KAT5), upregulates allograft inflammatory factor-1 ( AIF1 ) transcription via histone crotonylation, thereby inducing liver inflammation and subsequently resulting in the aberrant accumulation of senescent hepatocytes, which further enhances proinflammatory cytokine production. This ultimately initiates a vicious cycle of chronic inflammation, which directly promotes the progression from simple steatosis to MASH. Thus, our work reveals a mechanistically defined and pivotal role for ACSS2 in promoting the MASLD-to-MASH transition, highlighting its potential as a compelling therapeutic target.

Carbon quantum dots (CQDs) have emerged as promising materials for electroluminescent light-emitting diodes (LEDs) because of their photostability, low toxicity and tunable luminescence. However, their implementation in solid-state devices is often hindered by aggregation-induced quenching (AIQ), which leads to a substantial loss of photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and poor device reproducibility. Here, we present a robust, reproducible and scalable protocol for the preparation of solid-state emissive CQDs (SSE-CQDs) and their integration into electroluminescent LEDs. The protocol uses a solvothermal reaction between aromatic aldehydes and aromatic nitriles, involving Knoevenagel-type condensation, dehydration and carbonization. This synthetic strategy enables the formation of non-planar conjugated architectures with incorporated long-chain electron-donating alkoxy groups, which effectively suppress intermolecular π–π interactions and mitigate AIQ in the solid state. Compared with existing approaches that rely on host matrices or multistep post-synthetic modification, this protocol produces intrinsic SSE-CQDs, simplifying processing and improving reproducibility. Using this approach, SSE-CQDs with PLQYs exceeding 40% under ambient conditions can be reproducibly obtained and processed using standard solution-based techniques. This protocol describes in detail the synthesis, purification and basic optical characterization of SSE-CQDs, followed by their incorporation into electroluminescent device architectures. The complete workflow, from CQD synthesis to LED fabrication, can be completed within ~41.5 h. The procedures are compatible with conventional laboratory equipment and are suitable for researchers with experience in nanomaterial synthesis and optoelectronic device fabrication. This protocol provides a general and transferable platform for developing CQD-based solid-state emitters and LEDs.

Rapid electrification and renewable-energy infrastructure expansion demand copper materials simultaneously achieving high conductivity and robust structural performance. To address this, the study developed a strategy that couples a solution–solid displacement reaction with electrostatic self-assembly to construct hierarchical MXene/Ag@Cu composite powders, thereby achieving dual molecular-level compositing of Ag and MXene. During sintering, the Ag formed a continuous strip-like Ag phase within the Cu matrix, thereby establishing efficient dual pathways for electron and mechanical conduction, as confirmed by both microstructure characterization and finite element simulation. The first-principles analyses further revealed that Ag acts as an interfacial coupling element, effectively bridging self-lubricating MXene nanosheets with the Cu matrix, thereby enhancing electron transport, load-bearing capacity, and tribological performance. Furthermore, the Ag–MXene architecture was shown to construct a robust physicochemical barrier. Thermophysical measurements indicated its role in managing frictional heat, while first-principles simulations revealed its high energy barrier against O diffusion, collectively mitigating oxidative wear. Benefiting from multiscale synergistic reinforcement, the Cu-matrix composite simultaneously achieved high conductivity (96.3% IACS), excellent strength (354.3 MPa), and an ultralow wear rate (1.72 × 10 − 6 mm 3 N -1 m -1 ). These results demonstrate that the hierarchical Ag–MXene architecture successfully overcomes the conventional conductivity–strength–wear-resistance trade-off, offering a promising strategy for next-generation high-performance copper in advanced energy and industrial applications.

Aqueous zinc-ion capacitors are currently drawing attention for advanced energy storage applications, primarily because of their exceptional safety performance, environmental sustainability, and overall economic value. Hydrogel electrolytes are promising candidates for the construction of zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitors. However, most of the previously reported hydrogel electrolytes suffer from insufficient mechanical strength and limited fatigue resistance. In this study, Cu 2+ modification was introduced into a dual-physically and chemically crosslinked car-boxymethyl cellulose/chitosan (CC) gel polymer electrolyte to yield a Cu 2+ -CC gel. Coordination between Cu 2+ and functional groups (— OH, —COO − , and —NH 2 ) substantially improved the mechanical properties of the electrolyte, demonstrating a maximum tensile stress of (7.20±0.52) MPa. The resulting Cu 2+ -CC gel possesses a porous architecture, along with high ionic conductivity (31.25±0.76 mS·cm −1 at ambient temperature), a wide electrochemical stability window (2.54 V), and a high exchange current density (1.38 mA·cm −2 ). The zinc-ion hybrid supercapacitor assembled with this electrolyte retained 95.2% over 38000 charge-discharge cycles at 1 A·g −1 . Furthermore, the assembled device demonstrated remarkable operational stability even under severe mechanical deformation, including bending from 0° to 180°.

The primary crystallization temperature of an electrolyte is a critical parameter in the aluminum electrolysis process, determining the operating temperature of the electrolytic process. Therefore, the initial crystallization temperature is one of the most critical physicochemical properties of the electrolyte in the electrolytic aluminum process. However, the Na 3 AlF 6 -AlF 3 electrolyte system, which is predominantly used in industrial electrolysis systems, operates at high temperatures. Lowering the electrolysis temperature would lead to numerous issues, including reduced current efficiency and increased cell voltage. Therefore, we propose low-temperature aluminum electrolysis in the Na 3 AlF 6 -K 3 AlF 6 -Li 3 AlF 6 -AlF 3 -KF-Al 2 O 3 electrolyte system. The synergistic effect of K 3 AlF 6 and Li 3 AlF 6 on the initial crystallization temperature within this system was investigated. Results indicate that at a cryolite molar ratio (CR) of 1.7–2, each unit of K 3 AlF 6 added reduces the initial crystallization temperature by an average of 2–4°C, while each unit of Li 3 AlF 6 added lowers it by an average of 0.5–3.5°C. Analysis of the cold-quenched electrolyte phases indicates the formation of phases such as Na 5 Al 3 F 14 , K 2 NaAlF 6 , and Na 2 LiAlF 6 within the electrolyte system. This study systematically measured the initial crystallization temperatures of the Na 3 AlF 6 -K 3 AlF 6 -Li 3 AlF 6 -AlF 3 -KF-Al 2 O 3 electrolyte system. It significantly advances the progress of the aluminum electrolysis industry toward green and low-carbon development, opening new technical pathways for achieving energy conservation and emission reduction targets in aluminum electrolysis production processes. Introducing SiC nanowires into SiC fiber-reinforced SiC matrix (SiC f /SiC) composites is an effective multiscale reinforcement strategy. In this study, nickel acetate tetrahydrate (Ni(Ac) 2 ·4H 2 O) was incorporated into a liquid polycarbosilane (LPCS) and converted stepwise into metallic Ni and Ni₂Si during pyrolysis. However, transmission electron microscopy and oxidation test indicated that the resulting fibrous products were mainly carbon nanotubes (CNTs). To obtain SiC nanowires, additional nano Si was introduced into LPCS containing Ni(Ac) 2 ·4H 2 O, with EDS and TEM confirming their successful formation. Furthermore, the introduction of nano Si yielded SiC with larger grain size compared to that derived from pure LPCS or LPCS containing Ni(Ac) 2 ·4H 2 O. To evaluate the impact of these changes on the mechanical properties of SiC matrix composites, SiC f /SiC composites were prepared using the impregnation-pyrolysis process with two types of LPCS as raw materials: one containing nano Si and the other containing both Ni(Ac) 2 ·4H 2 O and nano Si. The resulting composites exhibited flexural strengths of 285 ± 32 MPa and 577 ± 52 MPa, respectively. The improved flexural strength of the latter was explained by the presence of SiC nanowires.

Currently, the specific mechanism by which the three components of biomass act on coal gangue combustion remains unclear, and existing studies lack in-depth exploration of the interaction mechanism at the component level between the two. In this paper, experiments on co-combustion of hemicellulose (HEM) and coal gangue (CG) were carried out to systematically investigate the effects of hemicellulose on the pyrolysis behavior, combustion characteristics, and gas emissions of coal gangue, and to deeply analyze the interaction mechanism between the two fuels during co-combustion. The polysaccharide substances contained in HEM degrade into various volatile products and undergo oxidation reactions, mainly including benzene, alcohols, ethers, NH 3 , and phenols. The N-H, C-O, C = C, and O-H bonds in the products were detected. When the mixing ratio of CG to HEM is 1:3, an obvious synergistic effect promoting combustion appears between the fuels in the main combustion stage after 270℃. When the HEM ratio is 75%, the temperature-averaged thermal coupling coefficient of co-combustion is the highest compared with the other two mixing ratios. After 250℃, the influence of interactions on CO 2 emissions showed multiple changes. The research results are helpful to provide a theoretical basis for optimizing the co-combustion technology of coal gangue and biomass. Graphical abstract
