A molecularly imprinted polymer and metal organic framework were combined to prepare protein imprinted material. MOF-74(Ni) was used as a matrix to prepare surface-imprinted material with lysozyme as a template and polydopamine as an imprinting polymer. MOF-74(Ni) not only provides a large surface area (150.0 m 2 /g) to modify the polymer layer with more recognition sites ( Wt (Ni) = 42.24%), but also facilitates the immobilization of lysozyme by using the chelation between Ni 2+ of the MOF-74(Ni) and protein. The thin polydopamine layer (10 nm) of the molecularly imprinted material (named MOF@PDA-MIP) enables surface imprinting. Benefiting from the thin polymer layer, MOF@PDA-MIP reached adsorption equilibrium within 10 min. The maximum adsorption capacity reaches 313.5 mg/g with the highest imprinting factor (IF) of 7.8. The specific recognition sites can distinguish target lysozyme from other proteins such as egg albumin (OVA), bovine serum albumin (BSA) and ribonuclease A (RNase A). The material was successfully applied to separation of lysozyme from egg white.

Bimetallic engineering in metal−organic frameworks (MOFs) offers a powerful strategy to enhance photocatalytic nitrogen fixation by optimizing electronic structure and facilitating directional charge transfer. This work reports a rational design of CoM-MOF-74 (M = Fe, Cd, Mg) catalysts synthesized via a solvothermal method. Among them, CoFe 0.25 -MOF-74 (Co:Fe = 4:1) microrods deliver the best performance, achieving an ammonia production rate of 120 μmol g cat −1 h −1 with an apparent quantum efficiency of 1.63% at 420 nm. The catalyst sustains high activity under outdoor sunlight and remains effective in multiple water environments. Mechanistic studies reveal that Fe incorporation alters the coordination environment while enabling synergistic Fe→Co charge transfer. This cooperative effect strengthens N 2 activation at the neighboring Co sites and concurrently suppresses the competing hydrogen evolution reaction. This work highlights metal-to-metal charge transfer in MOFs as a fundamental strategy for constructing efficient and durable photocatalysts for solar-driven ammonia synthesis.

Green microwave-assisted synthesis of composite using methanol/water. • Natural diatomite support reduces cost and suppresses MOF-74(Ni) aggregation. • DRIFTS and Molecular Simulation reveal CO 2 binding at unsaturated Ni 2+ sites. • Life cycle assessment indicates potential net-negative CO₂ emissions. Developing cost-effective and efficient adsorbents is essential for practical CO 2 capture. Herein, a hierarchical MOF-74(Ni)/diatomite composite is prepared via a microwave-assisted in situ growth strategy, using natural diatomite as a low-cost porous support and a methanol/water system as a relatively benign solvent medium. Rapid crystallization is achieved at 100 °C within 20 min, providing an energy-efficient route for constructing mineral-supported MOF adsorbents. Structural characterization confirms the uniform anchoring of MOF-74(Ni) crystals on the porous diatomite scaffold without compromising the intrinsic crystallinity of the framework. The diatomite scaffold not only promotes the dispersion of MOF-74(Ni) but also constructs interconnected micro-/ meso -/macroporous transport channels, thereby enhancing gas diffusion and mass transfer. The optimized composite delivers a CO 2 uptake of 4.86 mmol·g −1 at 298 K and 1 bar, an IAST-predicted CO 2 /N 2 selectivity of 76, and a dynamic CO 2 capacity of 4.37 mmol·g −1 . It also retains over 97% of its initial capacity after 50 adsorption–desorption cycles and exhibits stable CO 2 uptake under humid and multicomponent simulated flue gas conditions. In situ DRIFTS and molecular simulations reveal that CO 2 adsorption occurs primarily at coordinatively unsaturated Ni 2+ sites through electrostatic interactions and weak coordination. ZLC analysis further confirms enhanced intraparticle diffusion and improved CO 2 desorption kinetics in the composite. Life cycle assessment estimates emissions of 308 kg CO 2 -eq per ton of CO 2 captured, indicating the potential for net-negative emissions and highlighting the promise of mineral-supported MOF adsorbents for sustainable carbon capture. The fine design and regulation of the microenvironment surrounding active sites in metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) are crucial for optimizing electron distribution and enhancing oxygen activation, thereby achieving superior catalytic performance in epoxidation reactions. In this study, we focus on the synergistic modulation of the cobalt (Co) microenvironment in MOF-74 through the introduction of lanthanum (La) sites and defect engineering. The incorporation of rare-earth La species effectively redirects the electron density of Co sites, enhancing their oxygen activation capabilities. Additionally, the presence of coordination-unsaturated Co sites facilitates rapid electron transfer from active sites to substrates, promoting the generation of superoxide radicals. Notably, the Co0.50La0.50-MOF-74-4eq sample demonstrates exceptional molecular oxygen utilization and epoxidation performance, achieving a cyclohexene conversion of 92.2% with a selectivity of 93.9% for 1,2-epoxycyclohexane at 40 °C within 1 hour. Furthermore, this catalyst exhibits broad applicability across different substrates. Density functional theory calculations, complemented by in situ analysis, confirm that molecular oxygen activation occurs at Co sites while suppressing the allylic oxidation pathway, thus favoring the conversion of cyclohexene to epoxides. This work elucidates how strategically tailoring the electronic properties around catalytic sites can dramatically influence catalytic behavior in heterogeneous catalysis, providing new insights for the rational design of advanced catalysts.

Metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived materials show great potential as highly efficient and stable electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, conventional derivation strategies (such as high-temperature calcination and chemical etching) often require harsh reaction conditions and inevitably compromise the structural integrity of the material, thereby limiting their practical applicability. To address this challenge, this study presents an innovative room-temperature dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma surface engineering approach that enables the precise activation of CoNi-MOF-74 catalysts at room temperature. After DBD treatment, the surface of NF/PMOF is etched, generating cracks and exposing the nanoporous structure of the internal framework. Remarkably, through merely 5 min of DBD surface treatment, the resulting catalyst NF/PMOF5 achieves an ultralow overpotential of 173 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm–2 and a Tafel slope of 43 mV·dec–1, demonstrating a remarkable improvement compared to the untreated sample (307 mV, 109.5 mV·dec–1). The catalyst also exhibits outstanding stability, with minimal potential shift (<20 mV) after 4000 cycles. Detailed characterization reveals that the DBD treatment maintains the crystalline integrity of MOF-74 while simultaneously optimizing the electronic structure and generating high-density surface CoNi-oxide nanoclusters, which significantly enhance the OER kinetics. Owing to its green and mild treatment conditions, this noncarbonization activation strategy not only provides more options for MOF catalyst design but also demonstrates advantages in the processing of flexible electronic devices.

Various strategies have shown promise for addressing the volume expansion issue of silicon (Si)-based anode materials and enhancing their electrochemical performance, such as nanocrystallization and the use of carbon-encapsulated nano-Si particles. However, the agglomeration of nano-Si particles remains a challenge, limiting their full potential. In this study, Zn-MOF-74 was employed to improve the dispersion of nano-Si powder in a carbon source. Subsequently, polyacrylonitrile was used in an electrospinning process to prepare an effective coating, followed by heat treatment to prepare nitrogen-doped Si/C flexible anode composites. The influence of the coating degree on electrochemical performance was investigated, and the Si/C-MOF-74/CNFs-2 composite prepared with 30.3 wt% nano-Si particles exhibited specific discharge capacities of 1030.1 mAh·g −1 after 150 cycles at 0.1 A·g −1 , 610.8 mAh·g −1 after 300 cycles at 1.0 A·g −1 , and 409.1 mAh·g −1 after 300 cycles at 2.0 A·g −1 .

Although natural enzymes exhibit high selectivity and catalytic efficiency, their complex structures and inherent variability limit the long-term monitoring capabilities. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) biomimetic mineralization offers stability protection for enzymes, but it increases diffusion obstruction and reduces activity of encapsulated enzymes. To overcome these challenges, a biosensor based on MOF-74 biomimetic mineralization of three enzymes and combined with arginine-derived carbon dots (Argdot) was designed for monitoring key indicators (glucose, lactic acid, and xanthine) of muscle fatigue. The Boron‑nitrogen co-doped porous carbon nanospheres/reduced graphene oxide electrode (B,NMCNS/rGO) was used as the sensing substrate and the MOF-74/enzyme/Argdot was served as selective recognition layer. The detection sensitivities for glucose, lactic acid, and xanthine are 182.4 nA μM −1 cm −2 , 386.6 nA mM −1 cm −2 , and 207.6 nA μM −1 cm −2 . The sensors exhibit excellent linear ranges that fully encompass the physiological concentration intervals of all three biomarkers in sweat, and maintain over 94 % of its current response over 60 day-storage. Experiments conducted under several conditions demonstrate that the sensing system can dynamically monitor the variation of glucose, lactic acid, and xanthine in sweat. This study highlights the considerable promise of a noninvasive and continuous sensing system for point-of-care assessment and effective management in sports health.

The flourishing development of electronic devices and radar detection technologies necessitates the urgent creation of high-efficiency electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption materials with expansive absorption bandwidths. Although MXene has garnered significant interest in the domain of EMW absorption due to its tunable dielectric properties and structural designability, its high permittivity often results in poor impedance matching and a single loss mechanism, which makes it difficult to realize optimal EMW absorption capabilities. In this work, CoNi bimetallic metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) derived bayberry-like magnetic porous carbon (CoNiMPC)@carbon nanotubes (CNTs)/MXene (CNCM) hybrids were initially synthesized via simple solution precipitation, thermal treatment, and electrostatic self-assembly strategy. As anticipated, excellent EMW absorption characteristics were achieved by adjusting the ratio of CoNiMPC@CNTs and MXene. Multi-heterointerfaces consisting of zero-dimensional porous carbon , one-dimensional carbon nanotubes, and two-dimensional (2D) MXene, electrical/magnetic coupling effects, and polarization loss induced by abundant heterointerfaces endow the prepared CNCM hybrids with high-performance EMW absorption. Notably, the CNCM-7 hybrid material exhibits a minimum reflection loss (RL min ) of − 65.3 dB at 6.8 GHz with a mere 2.7 mm thickness and an effective absorption bandwidth (EAB, RL < −10 dB) of 5.0 GHz at a thickness of 1.27 mm. This study proposes a unique viewpoint and approach towards the design and preparing high-performance MXene-based EMW absorption materials.

Rutin, as a biological flavonoid glycoside, has very important medicinal value. The accurate and rapid detection of rutin is of great significance. Herein, an ultrasensitive electrochemical rutin sensor based on β-cyclodextrin metal–organic framework/reduced graphene oxide (β-CD-Ni-MOF-74/rGO) was constructed. The obtained β-CD-Ni-MOF-74 was characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and nitrogen adsorption and desorption. The β-CD-Ni-MOF-74/rGO presented good electrochemical properties benefiting from the large specific surface area and good adsorption enrichment effect of β-CD-Ni-MOF-74 and the good conductivity of rGO. Under optimal conditions for the detection of rutin, the β-CD-Ni-MOF-74/rGO/GCE showed a wider linear range (0.06–1.0 μM) and lower detection limit (LOD, 0.68 nM, (S/N = 3)). Furthermore, the sensor shows good accuracy and stability for the detection of rutin in actual samples. Keywords:electroanalysis;carbon materials;electrochemical reduction;modified electrode

CO is an important raw material and the separation of CO/N 2 in blast furnace gas can supply an abundant source of CO. Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) containing open metal sites are capable of selectively binding to CO over N 2 . However, the open metal sites easily bind to guest molecules during the preparation and activation process. In this study, typical MOFs containing open metal sites (Co-MOF-74) were used to investigate the activation behavior and corresponding CO/N 2 adsorptive separation performance. To characterize the removal and decomposition of guest molecules, TG-MS and NMR analysis of MOF-74 prepared under different activation conditions were performed. During the heat and vacuum process, the guest H 2 O and methanol (MeOH) molecules in Co-MOF-74 were first removed at 150 °C under vacuum. The aim of high temperature activation at 300 °C is the decomposition of a small amount of bind N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and terminal ligands occupying the open metal sites in Co-MOF-74. In addition, H 2 O molecules occupy the open metal sites of Co-MOF-74 during the filtration and MeOH wash steps under air, which is accompanied by the removal of a portion of DMF. The CO adsorption (298 K and 1 bar) and the CO/N 2 selectivity (Ideal adsorbed solution theory: 50:50, v/v) of Co-MOF-74 activated at 300 °C was 6.07 mmol/g and 384, respectively, which was higher than that of the other activated Co-MOF-74 samples and was attributed to the effective removal of guest molecules. Our results may guide the activation of MOFs, which contain open metal sites.

Bone regenerative biomaterials are essential in treating bone defects as they serve as extracellular matrix (ECM) mimics, creating a favorable environment for cell attachment, proliferation, and differentiation. However, the currently used bone regenerative biomaterials mostly exhibit high stiffness, which may lead to difficulties in degradation and thus increase the risk of foreign body ingestion. In this study, we prepared soft fibrous scaffolds modified with Zn-MOF-74 nanoparticles via electrostatic spinning. The soft fibers (only 1 kPa) permit remodeling under cellular adhesive force, optimizing the mechanical cues in the microenvironment to support cell adhesion and mechanosensing. In addition, the incorporation of Zn-MOF-74 nanoparticles enables the stable and sustained release of zinc ions, promoting stem cell mechanotransduction and osteogenic differentiation. Therefore, the hybrid soft fibers facilitate the regeneration of new bone in the rat femoral defect model, which provides a promising approach for regenerative medicine.

Photocatalyst systems generally consist of catalysts and cocatalysts to realize light capture, charge carrier migration, and surface redox reactions. Developing a single photocatalyst that performs all functions while minimizing efficiency loss is extremely challenging. Herein, rod-shaped photocatalysts Co 3 O 4 /CoO/Co 2 P are designed and prepared using Co-MOF-74 as a template, which displays an outstanding H 2 generation rate of 6.00 mmol·g −1 ·h −1 when exposed to visible light irradiation. It is 12.8 times higher than pure Co 3 O 4 . Under light excitation, the photoinduced electrons migrate from the catalysts of Co 3 O 4 and CoO to the cocatalyst Co 2 P. The trapped electrons can subsequently undergo a reduction reaction to produce H 2 on the surface. Density functional theory calculations and spectroscopic measurements reveal that enhanced performance results from the extended lifetime of photogenerated carriers and higher charge transfer efficiency. The ingenious structure and interface design presented in this study may guide the general synthesis of metal oxide/metal phosphide homometallic composites for photocatalysis.
