High infrared emissivity and heat dissipation ability of SiC/Edge-oxidized Graphene/ PVDF-HFP coatings near room temperature

Xiaoxiao Yu,Yu Zhang,Xiaolei Nie,Wei Song,Lisha Chen,Haotian Li,Wanting Zhu,Danqi He,Mingrui Liu,Ping Wei,Wenyu Zhao,Qingjie Zhang

High infrared emissivity and excellent thermal conduction capability are crucial for the heat dissipation performance of heat dissipation coatings, which are applicable in the thermal management of modern electronic components. Herein, SiC nanowires/Edge-oxidized graphene/polyvinylidene fluoride hexafluoropropylene (SiC NWs/EOG/PVDF-HFP) composite coatings with three-dimensional thermal conductivity network structure were successfully prepared by the in-situ growth of SiC NWs between EOG layers through high-temperature carbothermal reduction reaction. The out-of-plane thermal diffusivity of the SiC NWs/EOG/PVDF-HFP composite coating was increased by 27 %, as compared with that of the EOG/PVDF-HFP coating, which was originating from the enhanced phonon conduction in the vertical direction by the in-situ growth of SiC NWs. The stacking faults and twin crystals generated by SiC NWs, the structural defects introduced by EOG, and the multi-scale surfaces and interfaces introduced by EOG and SiC NWs have jointly improved the infrared emissivity, enabling the SiC NWs/EOG/PVDF-HFP composite coating achieved an emissivity of 0.92. The copper plate coated with SiC NWs/EOG/PVDF-HFP coating achieved a temperature drop benefit of 9.3 °C, increasing by 126 %, 93 % and 78 %, respectively, as compared with that of the copper plate coated with EOG/PVDF-HFP coating, the copper plate coated with mechanically compounded SiC/EOG/PVDF-HFP coating, and the copper plate coated with mechanically compounded SiC NWs-EOG/PVDF-HFP coating. These findings highlight the great potential of the SiC NWs/EOG/PVDF-HFP composite coatings for application in the thermal management of electronic devices.

High-performance energy harvesting and continuous output using nylon-11/BaTiO₃-PVDF triboelectric nanogenerators with strong dielectric properties

Xiong Dien,Nurulazlina Ramli,Tzer Hwai Gilbert Thio,Cheng Linfeng,Zhang Lin,Yuan Jiang,Yang Zhuanqing

Among various emerging energy technologies, triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) have garnered significant attention owing to their ability to convert environmental mechanical energy into electrical energy through the triboelectric effect and electrostatic induction. However, there are some problems with optimizing the electrical output and conversion efficiency of TENGs. This paper presents a high-performance TENG enhanced with BaTiO₃ nanowires(BTONWs) using electrospinning technology. PVDF was doped with BTONWs to fabricate TENGs with high flexibility and efficient energy conversion. BaTiO₃ and PVDF all exhibited inherent properties and triboelectric properties, maximizing the conversion of pressure into electrical energy output. This integration effectively enhances the conversion power and provides a continuous energy supply. Experimental results show that the fabricated TENGs achieved a current and voltage of 12 μA and 280 V, respectively, with a maximum power density of 1.45 W/m 2 at a load resistance of 90 MΩ. In addition, the performance of the TENGs was tested using a calculator, timer, and LED lights. By connecting to a simple external circuit and continuously tapping the TENG, the devices functioned normally, demonstrating that the TENG can constantly and stably output electrical energy by continuously collecting mechanical energy to power microgenerators. This work may significantly contribute to developing energy harvesting, wearable devices, and micropower sources.

High-flux blend PVDF membrane with enhanced resistance to organic solvents and high-temperature for efficient wastewater treatment

Zeren Kang,Wei Wang,Jinhai Xu,Xiaoji Zhou,Shusu Shen,Renbi Bai

The poor thermal stability of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membranes and their tendency to swell in organic solvents limit their widespread application in the field of membrane technology. In this study, the fluorinated polyimide (FPI), P(6FDA-BAPOFP), was investigated for the first time as a modifier for the PVDF membrane to enhance its stability at high temperatures and in organic solvents. By leveraging the inherent affinity between the C-F bond in FPI and PVDF, the compatibility of the physical blending has been significantly improved. The optimal addition of 2.5 % FPI led to a 2.0-fold increase in flux while preserving rejection. The introduction of FPI into the membrane effectively delayed the thermal weight loss, demonstrating stable performance in 90 °C water. In particular, after an operational period of up to 12 days, the modified membrane exhibited > 80 % Congo Red rejection and relative stable permeance (85 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 ). This high-flux polymer membrane contributes to energy conservation and emissions reduction in industrial production.

Fluorinate localized solvation PVDF-HFP-based polymer electrolyte producing LiF-rich interface for solid-state lithium metal batteries

Bin Wang,Qingqing Zhou,Junjie Lu,Chuyang Li,Mengmeng Fan,Wenwei Ding,Bifu Sheng,Wenjuan Zhu,Qian Ni,Huixin Chen,Xiang Han

Poly(vinylidene fluoride- co -hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP)-based solid polymer electrolytes show great potential for high energy lithium metal batteries, however, the residual solvent and related severe side reactions limit its development. Herein, a PVDF-HFP-based solid polymer electrolyte modified by fluorobenzene (FB) co-solvent is designed to address these problems. The introduced FB with weak solvation interaction regulates the coordination environment and induces anions to enter the solvation structure, generating more contact ion pairs (CIPs) and aggregates (AGGs). In addition, the anions-derived LiF-rich interphases help to improve the interface stability against Li metal. As a result, the FB-PVDF-HFP achieves high ionic conductivity (4.1 × 10 −4 S/cm) and low activation energy (0.125 eV) at room temperature. In addition, Li||Li symmetric cells using FB-PVDF-HFP electrolyte can achieve uniform and dendrite-free lithium deposition/stripping in the long-term cycling over 2300 h. The assembled solid-state Li|FB-PVDF-HFP|LFP full cell shows improved rate performance and cycling performance (600 cycles at 0.5 C and 450 cycles at 3 C) at room temperature. This work verifies the feasibility of fluorinated terminated solid polymer electrolytes on its lithium-ion transport and interfacial stability in lithium metal batteries.

Excellent electrochemical performance of PVDF based composite electrolyte by incorporating ZIF with different entropy for lithium metal batteries

Yongli Du,Yongfan Cao,Zhenzhu Cao,Liying Wang,Guorong Li

Composite solid-state electrolytes (CSEs) with high safety and flexibility are promising candidates for high-energy-density energy storage devices. However, the low ionic conductivity, low ion transference number, and poor interfacial stability of CSEs greatly reduce the electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). In this work, ZIFs with low, medium and high entropy prepared using mechanical ball grinding are introduced into polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) as fillers. The effect of ZIFs with different entropy on the structure, ionic conductivity of CSEs as well as electrochemical performance of cells is investigated. The CSE with high-entropy ZIF (PLL-HE) showcases optimal comprehensive properties, with mechanical strength as high as 11.2 MPa, high room-temperature ionic conductivity of 7.76 × 10 −4  S cm −1 , high ionic transference number of 0.84, and low activation energy of 0.14 eV. The Li/PLL-HE/Li symmetric cell does not experience short-circuit phenomena after cycling for 1400 h at a current density of 0.2 mA cm −2 . The LiFePO 4 /PLL-HE/Li full cell has an initial discharge specific capacity of 152.3 mA h g −1 at a rate of 0.2 C and exhibits a capacity retention rate of 99.44 % after 130 cycles. This study provides a novel strategy using high-entropy ZIF to boost CSE performance for Li-metal cells.

Low air pressure combustion of Al/CuO/PVDF electrospun films: design guidance for energetic encapsulation of microthruster arrays

Yuxuan Zhou,Keer Ouyang,Yongqi Da,Lingyan Shen,Zhengwu Dong,Zhuotao Song,Jingjie Wang,Xiaoxue Tan,Xiaohong Jiang,Xuran Xu,A.V. Rogachev,D.G. Piliptsou,A.A. Rogachev,M.A. Yarmolenko,Jianbing Xu,Yinghua Ye,Ruiqi Shen

Energetic interfacial films represent a promising encapsulation material for micro- thruster arrays in near-Earth orbit, where their combustion performance under low- pressure or vacuum conditions is critical for practical application. Herein, a uniformly dispersed layered energetic composite film suitable for scalable array encapsulation has been designed via electrospinning technology. The ternary composite energetic film consists of interwoven polyvinylidene fluoride/aluminum/copper oxide (PVDF/Al/CuO) nanofibers. Morphological analysis confirms the effective loading of nanoparticles (Al and CuO) onto the fibers. Energetic films fabricated by this method significantly suppress particle agglomeration. Thermal analysis reveals atmosphere-dependent exothermic pathways. Constant-volume combustion experiments demonstrate that energy release is modulated by film thickness. The evolution of the film ablation flow field has been investigated. Crucially, transient resistance thermometry has for the first time reported the phenomenon of increasing ignition temperature of energetic materials with decreasing pressure under low-pressure conditions. At 1 kPa, the ignition temperature is significantly elevated compared to that at atmospheric pressure. Propagation velocity characterization uncovered a counterintuitive phenomenon: below 10 kPa, 610 μm-thick films exhibit a 42% lower propagation velocity than 270 μm-thick films, a phenomenon termed the thickness-compensation failure effect. An asymmetric heat transfer-dissipation theory is proposed to explain this inversion through geometric thermal management. This work provides crucial experimental evidence and a theoretical foundation for guiding the design of energetic films for vacuum-operating micro-thruster array encapsulation.

Superhydrophobic ZIF-8@PVDF nanofiber membranes with hierarchical structure for the efficient separation of water-in-oil emulsion

Tiandi Pan,Zhibo Huang,Xinghua Su,Ning Tang,Fei Sun,Peijian Du,Youna Liu,Xiaofei Liu

Nanofiber membranes are widely employed for oil/water separation applications. However, these membranes suffer from low rejection rate due to their large pore size failing to capture fine water droplets, compounded by serious membrane fouling from surfactant adsorption in separating emulsified oil. To address these limitations, we presented a hierarchical zeolitic imidazolate frame-work-8@polyvinylidene fluoride nanofiber membranes (ZIF-8@PVDF NFMs) via sequential electrospinning and solvothermal synthesis. The hierarchical structure comprises a separation layer of ZIF-8@PVDF nanofibers and a support layer of PVDF nanofibers. The introduced ZIF-8 nanoparticles on the separation layer not only create micro/nano rough surface, thereby endowing the membrane with superhydrophobicity and underoil superhydrophobicity, but also reduce pore size to improve separation accuracy. Meanwhile, the underlying large-pore PVDF layer ensures rapid oil permeation. Consequently, this hierarchical design achieves outstanding removal efficiency (99.1 %) and high flux (3296.2 L m⁻² h⁻¹) for water-in-n-hexane emulsion under the driving pressure of 20 kPa. Notably, the membrane exhibited robust recyclability with separation efficiency‌ remaining 98.8 % after 10 cycles. The hierarchical nanofiber membrane is a promising candidate for efficient separation of water-in-oil emulsions.

ZnO@PVDF/CS Piezoelectric Nanofibrous Membrane Promotes the Healing of Infected Wounds Stimulated by Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound

Chentong Zou,Kai Chen,Shikang Zheng,Mingjun Zhang,Yuyan Liu,Ziyi Ma,Lin Wang,Zhaoyi Jin,Yiyi Cheng,Junkai Zhang,Xinzhe Xu,Guanyu Li,Guomin Wu

As the largest organ interfacing directly with the external environment, skin is highly vulnerable to injuries from trauma (e.g., vehicular accidents, lacerations, burns) or surgical resection. The healing of such defects is frequently protracted and susceptible to microbial infection, which exacerbates recovery timelines. Bioelectric signaling has emerged as a critical modulator of wound repair processes. Concurrently, decades of antibiotic misuse have precipitated widespread bacterial resistance, with biofilm formation further complicating therapeutic efficacy. Consequently, developing safe and effective antimicrobial strategies to shield wounds against drug-resistant pathogens is imperative. Metallic nanoparticles, notably zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs), have garnered significant attention for their potent antibacterial properties. To utilize this advantage, we prepared a piezoelectric nanofibrous membrane via electrospinning. This membrane integrates polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) for piezoelectricity, ZnO-NPs for antimicrobial activity, and chitosan (CS) for hemostatic and supplementary antibacterial functions. Bioelectric stimulation was achieved through dual mechanisms: exogenous low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) and endogenous mechanical motion from the rat model. The resulting ZnO@PVDF/CS membrane exhibited excellent material properties, strong antimicrobial efficacy, and accelerated in vivo wound healing in rat models.

Zn2+-Doped CsPbI3/PVDF Composite Films with Enhanced Stability and Photoluminescence Quantum Yield for White-Light LED Applications

Hai Huang,Zijian Geng,Ankang Wan,Chunyan Cao,Daqin Chen,An Xie

Cesium lead halide (CsPbX3; X = I, Br, Cl) perovskite quantum dots (PQDs), owing to their outstanding optoelectronic properties, are regarded as highly promising color conversion layer materials for next-generation wide-color-gamut display technologies. Unfortunately, compared with the increasingly mature production process of green-emitting CsPbBr3 QDs, red-emitting CsPbI3 QDs suffer from irreversible phase transitions induced by environmental stresses, leading to performance degradation that limits their applications in LEDs. The preparation of CsPbI3 QDs with both high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) and stability remains a significant challenge. In this study, based on a low-temperature in situ crystallization process, we propose a synergistic optimization strategy combining metal ion doping and ligand engineering. By introducing phenethylammonium iodide (PEAI) as a surface ligand, we effectively reduced the defect density on the QDs surfaces, thereby enhancing luminescence. Meanwhile, through systematic optimization of Zn2+ doping concentration, we successfully fabricated Zn2+-doped CsPbI3/PVDF composite films with excellent luminescent properties, achieving a PLQY of 86%. Furthermore, by integrating the Zn2+-doped CsPbI3/PVDF composite film with a green-emitting film, we constructed a dual-emissive-layer architecture and successfully fabricated a white-light-emitting device driven by a blue light-emitting diode (LED). The device exhibited an outstanding wide color gamut (121% of the National Television System Committee standard and 91% of Rec. 2020), along with excellent operational stability, highlighting the promising potential of CsPbI3 QDs for white-light LED applications.

TiO2@HNTs Robustly Decorated PVDF Membrane Prepared by a Bioinspired Accurate-Deposition Strategy for Complex Corrosive Wastewater Treatment

Jingcheng Wu,Yi He,Liang Zhou,Xiangying Yin,Liyun Zhang,Jingyu Chen,Zhenyu Li,Yang Bai

As industrialization has spread all around the world, the problems of water pollution such as offshore oil spill and industrial sewage discharge have spread with it. Although many new separation materials have been successfully developed to deal with this crisis, a large number of water treatment materials only focus on the treatment of classified single water pollutant under mild conditions. It is a great challenge to treat soluble contaminants such as water-soluble dyes and insoluble contaminants, for example, emulsified oils simultaneously in a strong corrosive environment. Herein, in this work, corrosive resistance and multifunctional surface on a commercial polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF) membrane via a tunicate-inspired gallic acid-assisted accurate-deposition strategy is created. Owing to the titanium–carboxylic coordination bonding and accurate-deposition strategy, the as-prepared membrane exhibits extraordinary stability, facing various harsh environmental challenges and incredibly corrosive situations (e.g., 4 M NaOH, 4 M HCl, and saturated NaCl solution). The robust multifunctional surface also endows commercial PVDF membrane with the ability for in situ separation and adsorption of surfactant-stabilized oil-in-water (corrosive and dyed) emulsions with high adsorption efficiencies up to 99.9%, separation efficiencies above 99.6%, and permeation flux as high as 15,698 ± 211 L/(m2·h·bar). Furthermore, the resultant membrane can be regenerated facilely and rapidly by flushing a small amount of HCl (4 M) or NaOH (4 M), making the corrosive resistance membrane attain a long-term and high-efficiency application for complex dyed wastewater treatment. Therefore, the multifunctional membrane has a broad application prospect in the industrial field.

Fe–Ti MOF functionalized electrospun PVDF-HFP separators with improved transport and dimensional stability for LiFePO4‖Li cells

Wu Keying,Xie Wenda,Liu Xingjian,Chen Jing,Pu Haitao,Luo Bing

Separator design can improve electrolyte wetting, ion transport and dimensional stability in lithium metal cells with LiFePO 4 cathodes. Here, an Fe–Ti metal–organic framework (MOF) was prepared by a solvothermal route and incorporated into poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) nanofiber membranes by electrospinning. The effects of filler loading were evaluated against pristine PVDF-HFP and a commercial Celgard separator. Among the investigated compositions, PVDF-HFP/MOF-10 exhibited an electrolyte contact angle of 18°, an ionic conductivity of 1.7 × 10⁻ 3 S cm⁻ 1 at 30 °C, and an apparent Li⁺ transference number of 0.56 under the Bruce–Vincent measurement protocol. The composite also showed improved thermal dimensional stability. Li‖Li cells operated for over 500 h at 1 mA cm⁻ 2 and 1 mAh cm⁻ 2 , while LiFePO 4 ‖Li cells retained 92.3% of their initial discharge capacity after 500 cycles at 1 C. These observations support the use of the composite separator for improving performance under the tested conditions. Adsorption calculations provide a possible molecular explanation for electrolyte affinity, but do not establish ion desolvation, selective anion immobilization or a unique bimetallic synergy in the operating electrolyte. The contribution is the integration and loading optimization of an Fe–Ti MOF within a porous PVDF-HFP separator, with the microscopic transport mechanism remaining to be resolved.

In-situ growth of CuBTC and PFOTES modification to fabricate superhydrophobic PVDF membranes for membrane absorption of CO2

Dan Han,Huili Liu,Huayan Chen,Xihan Hu,Yue Jia,Chunri Wu,Liang wang

Climate change is one of the major challenges facing the world, and reducing carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) emissions is a crucial means of addressing global warming. Membrane CO 2 absorption technology integrates membrane technology with chemical absorption techniques, offering advantages such as flexible operation, low cost, low energy consumption, and ease of scale-up. The membrane contactor serves to separate the gas and liquid phases. When the membrane pores become wetted, the mass transfer resistance of CO 2 across the membrane increases rapidly. Therefore, improving the anti-wetting properties of the membrane material is fundamental to enhancing its CO 2 absorption capacity. Research findings indicate that through surface roughness analysis, contact angle measurements, and immersion testing, the composite PVDF membrane fabricated via in-situ growth of CuBTC and PFOTES modification exhibited superhydrophobic properties with a maximum contact angle of 156.77°. After 60 h of continuous operation, the CO 2 mass transfer rate of the composite membrane only decreased by 5.6 %, which is significantly lower than the 27.7 % decrease of the pristine PVDF membrane, demonstrating superior operational stability and anti-wetting properties. Meanwhile, under the optimal condition of 15 modification cycles, the CO 2 removal efficiency and mass transfer rate of the composite membrane were higher than those of the pristine membrane, achieving improved mass transfer performance.
