Poly(vinylidene
fluoride) (PVDF)-based piezoelectric materials
are commonly constrained by low polar-phase content. Here, we report
an APTES-assisted in situ crystallization strategy to fabricate PVDF/APTES@CsPbBr 3 nanocomposites. APTES acts as a bifunctional linker that
passivates CsPbBr 3 quantum dot surfaces while introducing
protonated ammonium (−NH 3 + ) groups. When
incorporated into electrospun PVDF fibers, these -NH 3 + groups interact with fluorine atoms of PVDF chains via ionic-dipole
interactions, as evidenced by a blue shift of the C–F stretching
band in Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR). This molecular-level interaction
lowers the free energy barrier for polar phase nucleation, promoting
the transformation from nonpolar α phase to electroactive β
phase, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, and differential
scanning calorimetry (DSC). The optimized composite achieves a markedly
higher β-phase fraction compared to pure PVDF and unmodified
CsPbBr 3 composites. As a functional demonstration, the
material delivers substantially enhanced piezoelectric output (130
V) and operates as a self-powered motion sensor. When coupled with
a support vector machine classifier, the system achieves high-accuracy
recognition (94.6%) of diverse human activities. This work establishes
APTES-mediated interfacial engineering as a versatile platform for
controlling polymer crystallization in hybrid systems toward high-performance
piezoelectric applications, with the output enhancement attributed
to a synergistic combination of increased β-phase fraction,
intrinsic piezoelectricity of the perovskite fillers, improved interfacial
stress transfer, and refined fiber morphology.

The advancements in flexible display technology impose stringent demands on the optical properties and environmental stability of perovskite luminescent materials. Addressing the core challenges of poor environmental stability and optical performance degradation in methylammonium lead bromide (MAPbBr 3 ) quantum dots, this study proposes a dual-stability strategy combining “internal crystallization regulation” with “external physical protection.” A ZnO/MAPbBr 3 /PVDF composite film was prepared through synergistic modification with zinc oxide (ZnO) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), with the optimal ZnO content identified as 40 μL. Under these conditions, the composite film exhibited a green light emission full width at half maximum (FWHM) as low as 19.88 nm and a photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 76.06%, demonstrating high color purity. After heating at 100°C for 60 min, the PL intensity decayed by only 30%, and after 168 h of immersion in water, it retained 65% of its initial PL intensity, indicating significantly enhanced environmental tolerance. When this film served as the green conversion layer integrated with red CsPbI 3 quantum dot films and GaN blue LEDs to form a white light-emitting diode (WLED), the device achieved a color gamut coverage of 126% of the NTSC standard and 94% of the Rec. 2020 specification. Research indicates that ZnO enhances crystalline integrity by regulating MAPbBr 3 nucleation and growth, while PVDF forms a compact hydrophobic barrier. Their combined effect enhances both the film’s optical performance and environmental stability, enabling WLEDs with ultrawide color gamut that meet the requirements of high-performance flexible display and lighting applications.

Template-free blade-coating fabricates a MXene/PVDF membrane with gradient pores. • Top-small and bottom-large pores enable fast water transport and heat localization. • One-sun evaporation rate is 1.54 kg m −2 h −1 and photothermal efficiency is 93.66%. • Outstanding salt resistance and long-term durability are achieved. • Desalinated seawater meets both WHO and Chinese standards for drinking water. Addressing the global freshwater scarcity crisis, solar-driven interfacial evaporation represents a promising, energy-efficient desalination technology. Conventional porous evaporators, however, face a fundamental performance trade-off between efficient water supply and effective surface heat localization. To resolve this conflict, this study presents a novel two-dimensional (2D) MXene/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite membrane featuring an architecturally gradient “top-small, bottom-large” pore structure, fabricated via a straightforward blade-coating and immersion precipitation phase inversion process without any template. This unique design simultaneously enables rapid capillary-driven water transport and confines thermal energy at the evaporation interface. A hydrophobic fluorinated silica (F-SiO 2 ) is further applied to ensure stable self-floating and prevent salt accumulation. The resulting membrane (~0.25 mm thick) demonstrates high porosity (~40.7%) and superior broad-spectrum light absorption (~95%). Under 1-sun illumination, it achieves a high evaporation rate of 1.54 kg m −2 h −1 and a remarkable photothermal conversion efficiency of 93.66%, while also exhibiting excellent cycling stability and salt resistance. Practical desalination tests using Bohai Sea water confirm that the purified water meets both World Health Organization (WHO) and Chinese drinking water standards. This work provides an effective strategy for designing high-performance, low-cost solar evaporator, demonstrating significant potential for scalable desalination and water purification applications. Circumventing the intricate high-voltage poling process is a pivotal challenge for advancing the practical application of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)-based flexible piezoelectric devices. This study employs a synergistic strategy that combines molybdenum disulfide modified with polar compounds (P-MoS 2 ) as β -crystal inducer with thermal stretching to successfully fabricate high-performance self-polarized PVDF composite films. The results demonstrate that the P-MoS 2 significantly enhances the β -phase crystal content of PVDF via strong interfacial interactions and charge-induction effects, while simultaneously achieving initial dipole alignment. This results in simultaneous improvements in piezoelectric output and dielectric constant. A more significant discovery is that, after controlled thermal stretching of the aforementioned self-polarized films, the piezoelectric and dielectric properties of the material exhibit distinct evolutionary trajectories: as the degree of stretching increases, both the β -crystal content and piezoelectric output voltage show a continuous monotonic rise, while the dielectric constant exhibits a non-monotonic change of first increasing and then decreasing. This “performance decoupling” phenomenon reveals a dynamic shift in the dominant physical mechanisms within the material where the sustained enhancement of piezoelectric output primarily stems from the extreme optimization of β -crystal macroscopic orientation achieved through thermal stretching. Conversely, the evolution of the dielectric constant arises from the interplay between two competing mechanisms: the initial interface polarization strengthened by improved filler dispersion and the subsequent highly oriented crystal structure that severely restricts polymer chain segment mobility while suppressing dipole switching polarization. This work not only demonstrates the tremendous potential of a synergistic strategy combining chemical modification and physical stretching for achieving highly efficient self-polarization, but more importantly, elucidates the inconsistent performance evolution. By revealing the competition among multiple mechanisms within self-polarizing materials, it provides crucial theoretical and experimental foundations for designing new-generation of high-performance flexible piezoelectric materials that require no high-voltage polarization.

To address the lack of non-invasive real-time monitoring of hand motor symptoms in Parkinson’s disease, this study proposes a flexible piezoelectric sensor that detects electrical signal responses generated under different finger bending angles and frequencies, which can be used to monitor and evaluate finger motor function and rehabilitation training in patients with Parkinson’s disease. Moreover, the sensor maintains stable output over seven days and exhibits good biocompatibility. A doping strategy employing polypyrrole-coated BaTiO 3 (PPy@BT) nanoparticles is used to significantly enhance the piezoelectric performance of poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) (PVDF-TrFE) nanofiber sensors. PVDF-TrFE/PPy@BT composite nanofiber membranes are prepared by electrospinning and assembled into a flexible piezoelectric nanogenerator (PENG). The microstructure, dielectric properties, mechanical, and piezoelectric performance of the composite are systematically characterized. Experimental results demonstrate that, under optimal doping conditions, the PENG exhibits an open-circuit voltage of 13.64 V, which corresponds to approximately 455% of the value of the undoped PVDF-TrFE membrane. Furthermore, the device maintains a stable output over 3000 cyclic loadings. The device achieves a maximum sensitivity of 39.34 V·kPa⁻ 1 in the low-pressure region (0–1 kPa) and delivers a peak power density of 0.32 W·m⁻ 2 at a load resistance of 10 8 Ω, demonstrating its excellent energy conversion efficiency.

Polyethylene oxide (PEO)-based polymer electrolytes hold promise for application in solid-state lithium metal batteries. However, the high crystallinity of PEO poses a significant challenge to ion transport, particularly limiting its room-temperature performance. Poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP), a semi-crystalline polymer with rigid fluorocarbon chains, can provide robust mechanical support to the electrolyte system. Herein, a quasi-solid electrolyte (QSE) was fabricated by using PEO and PVDF-HFP, in which succinonitrile (SN) was introduced as a plasticizer to enhance the electrochemical properties at room temperature. Innovatively, 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl-2,2,3,3-tetrafluoropropyl ether (TTE) was employed as a shield layer to prevent direct contact between the Li anode and the prepared SN-modified PEO/PVDF-HFP-QSE, thus forming a stable anode/electrolyte interface. The obtained TTE-P 8 P 2 S(12%)-QSE exhibits high room-temperature electrochemical properties, with an ionic conductivity of 4.02 × 10 –4 S cm –1 , a lithium-ion transport number of 0.47, and a wide electrochemical window of 5.4 V vs. Li + /Li. By interfacial modification, TTE-P 8 P 2 S(12%)-QSE can enable long-term cycling of LiCoO 2 cathodes and Li anodes, with an initial discharge capacity of 126.9 mAh g –1 , and achieve an average capacity of 142.8 mAh g –1 within 100 cycles at room temperature. Characterizations reveal that the incorporation of TTE preserves the structural integrity of the lithium electrodes, promotes efficient utilization of active lithium ions, and tailors the composition and structure of the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI) on the lithium metal anode, thereby substantially enhancing interfacial stability. This work provides a feasible strategy for building high-energy-density lithium metal batteries for room-temperature applications.

The γ-phase of poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) exhibits exceptional dielectric polarization and thermal stability but suffers from kinetically hindered crystallization and high-frequency dielectric losses in conventional processing. We develop a diamine-polyethylene glycol (diamine-PEG) covalent crosslinking strategy that simultaneously overcomes both limitations. The sterically confined network enables rapid γ-phase crystallization (92 % purity within 4 h at 155°C) through directed T 3 GT 3 G′ chain alignment, while suppressing parasitic dipole relaxation. This yields breakthrough dielectric performance: frequency-stable permittivity (ε' ≈ 8) with ultralow loss (tan δ = 0.21 at 10 6 Hz, 60 % reduction vs. pristine PVDF) and ferroelectric switching exhibiting 2.5-fold enhancement in polarization (4.5 μC/cm 2 at 2000 kV/cm). Crucially, the films retain exceptional flexibility (307 % elongation at break with 5 wt% crosslinker vs. 90 % for neat PVDF) and solution processability, establishing a multifunctional platform for flexible power electronics requiring concurrent high-frequency stability, thermal resilience, and mechanical durability.

At present, membrane fouling is a thorny issue that limits the development of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite membrane , which seriously affects its separation performance and service lifespan. Herein, an imidazole-functionalized graphene oxide (Im-GO) with hydrophilicity and antibacterial performance was synthesized, and it was used as a modifier to improve the anti-organic fouling and antibacterial properties of PVDF membrane. The anti-organic fouling test showed that the maximum flux recovery ratios against bovine serum albumin and humic acid were 88.9% and 94.5%, respectively. Conspicuously, the grafted imidazole groups could effectively prevent the bacteria from growing on the membrane surface. It was gratifying that the antibacterial modifier Im-GO was almost not lost from the hybrid membranes even by the ultrasonic treatment, which was different from the conventional release-killing antibacterial agents. Owing to the long-term anti-organic fouling and antibacterial properties, Im-GO/PVDF hybrid membranes exhibit a great application potential in the fields of rough separation and concentration of biomedical products.

In order to improve the proton conductivity, CH 3 OH barrier performance and long-term durability of proton exchange membranes in direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs), herein, a novel functional nanofiber substrate (IL-ZIF-8@PVDF) was prepared by in situ growing metal-organic framework (ZIF-8) on poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) nanofibers, followed by modification with ionic liquid (IL) containing sulfonic acid groups. PVDF nanofibers can provide flexible mechanical support for ZIF-8, thereby effectively solving the processing difficulties of ZIF-8 caused by its brittleness. Further IL modification of ZIF-8 can not only increase the compatibility between ZIF-8@PVDF and the filling polymer, but also utilize the continuous PVDF nanofiber network to establish long-distance continuous H + transport pathways within the membrane. The as-prepared sulfonated poly (ether ether ketone) impregnated IL-ZIF-8@PVDF composite membrane showed a very high proton conductivity of 161.92 mS cm −1 (80 °C). Meanwhile, the presence of nanofiber backbone and ZIF-8 inside the membrane effectively limited the swelling and methanol permeation. The peak power density (PPD) of the DMFC output equipped with the membrane is up to 114.86 mW cm −2 (2 M methanol, 80 °C), 1.28 times that of the commercial Nafion 211. The durability test suggested that the composite membrane assembled DMFC possessed excellent open circuit voltage stability (only 6.3 % attenuation after 320 h of continuous testing). This work provides a new design idea for PEMs for DMFCs.

Solid composite electrolytes (SCEs) are regarded as an effective solution to ensure safety and enhance the energy density of lithium-based batteries. This work reports an ultrathin SCE membrane (∼ 15 μm) based on Li6.4La3Zr1.4Ta0.6O12/PVDF-HFP/LiTFSI/succinonitrile; it not only possesses good ionic conductivity (6.53 × 10–4 S cm–1 with a little amount of liquid electrolyte) at 30 °C and a satisfactory lithium ion transfer number (0.55 without electrolyte), but also exhibits excellent thermal and mechanical properties. A symmetric cell with SCE succinonitrile-10% (SN-10%) can be continuously cycled without short circuit at 0.2 mA cm–2 for about 340 h. Moreover, a high reversible discharge capacity of 150.2 mAh g–1 at 0.5 C was maintained by the cell (LiFePO4/SCE SN-10%/Li) after 269 cycles at room temperature. Notably, a capacity of about 100 mAh g–1 at 5 C was also obtained. This work might guide the improvement of future solid-state lithium/sodium metal batteries and lithium–sulfur batteries, even for wearable flexible batteries.
