As a bridge for human–machine interaction, the performance improvement of sensors relies on the in-depth understanding of ion transport mechanisms. This study focuses on the surface effect of resistive gel sensors and designs a polyacrylic acid/ferric ion hydrogel (PAA/Fe3+) gas flow sensor. Prepared by one-pot polymerization, PAA/Fe3+forms a three-dimensional network through the entanglement of crosslinked and uncrosslinked PAA chains, where the coordination between Fe3+and carboxyl groups endows the material with excellent mechanical properties (tensile strength of 80 kPa and elongation at break of 1100%). Experiments show that when a gas flow acts on the hydrogel surface, changes in surface humidity alter the density of the network structure, thereby regulating ion migration rates: the network loosens to promote ion transport during water absorption, while it tightens to hinder transport during water loss. This mechanism enables the sensor to exhibit significant resistance responses (ΔR/R0up to 0.55) to gentle breezes (0–13 m/s), with a response time of approximately 166 ms and a sensitivity 40 times higher than that of bulk deformation. The surface ion transport model proposed in this study provides a new strategy for ultrasensitive gas flow sensing, showing potential application values in intelligent robotics, electronic skin, and other fields.

The shelf-life of fruits and vegetables is significantly affected by atmospheric conditions and the microbial contaminations. The use of porous materials for packaging can help regulate the internal atmosphere within packaging. In this study, a chitosan-based film with enhanced gas permeability and antimicrobial properties was developed through the incorporation of polyethyleneimine (PEI)-modified mesoporous silica SBA-15. The mesoporous structure of SBA-15 enhances gas exchange, leading to superior permeability for oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor compared to neat chitosan films. Additionally, the addition of polyethyleneimine (PEI) endows the composite film with remarkable antimicrobial efficacy, effectively inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli , Staphylococcus aureus and Botrytis cinerea . The composite film also exhibited good transparency, UV-blocking capabilities, and mechanical strength. Preservation tests conducted on mangoes indicated that composite film was capable of regulating the internal atmosphere and delaying the deterioration of the fruit. Furthermore, the films exhibited excellent biodegradability and biocompatibility. Therefore, this composite film with enhanced gas transmission rate and antimicrobial properties presents considerable potential for the preservation of fresh produce.

The gas-liquid sulfonation of α-olefin sulfonate (AOS) in falling film reactors faces significant limitations, primarily due to poor mass transfer efficiency and excessive byproduct formation. To overcome these challenges, a novel cross-shaped microchannel reactor was developed for the continuous gas-liquid sulfonation of α-olefin (AO) with gaseous sulfur trioxide (SO3). The influence of key process parameters, including gas-phase flow rate, reaction temperature, SO3/AO molar ratio, and SO3volume fraction, on product characteristics and their interactions was systematically investigated using the single-factor experiment and response surface methodology (RSM). A high-precision empirical model (coefficient of determination,R2= 0.9882) to predict product content was successfully constructed. To achieve multi-objective optimization considering product active substance content and energy efficiency, a strategy combining a two-population genetic algorithm with the entropy-weighted TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method was implemented. Optimal conditions were determined as follows: gas-phase flow rate of 228 mL/min, reaction temperature of 52 °C, SO3/AO molar ratio of 1.27, and SO3volume fraction of 4%. Compared to conditions optimized solely by RSM, this multi-objective approach achieved a significant 10% reduction in energy efficiency, with only a marginal 3.8% decrease in active substance content. This study demonstrates the feasibility and advantages of microreactors for the efficient and green synthesis of AOS.

By coupling CALF-20 on ZIF-7 via in situ crystallization in the confined micrometer-sized pores of poly(acrylates), a novel composite, namely, CALF-20-on-ZIF-7@poly(acrylates), has been synthesized for the simultaneous removal of CO2 and H2S from IGCC feed gas. Within this coupled crystal, CALF-20, known for its strong adsorption capacity and excellent stability toward CO2 and H2S, serves as the outer layer crystal to shift the adsorption/desorption hysteresis loop of inner ZIF-7 to beyond atmosphere pressure. Under high pressure, CO2 and H2S are automatically adsorbed. Upon reducing the pressure to the atmospheric level, CO2 is automatically released, while H2S remains temporarily due to its high adsorption energy. After about 150 cycles of CO2 adsorption/desorption of the kilogram-scale composite, H2S approaches saturation and is then removed by vacuuming. Since the content of H2S in IGCC feed gas is trivial, the total energy consumption for the composite regeneration is 0.16 MJ/kg (CO2). After 600 consecutive cycles, the CO2 adsorption capability of the composite decreases by 0.41%, demonstrating excellent cyclic stability.

Porous liquids (PLs) combine the distinct porosity of solids with the fluidity of liquids, offering new solutions for carbon capture, membrane separation, and more. This study introduces the development of unique UIO-66-PLs through a meticulous surface functionalization strategy, using surface-modified UIO-66-(OH) 2 with the organic oligomer SIT8378.3 (SIT) and polyether amines (PEAs) of various molecular weights (M1000, M2070, and M3085) as the hindering solvents. The resulting UIO-66-PLs exhibit exceptional stability and dispersibility in both aqueous and organic environments. Importantly, benefiting from preserving UIO-66-(OH) 2 ′s porosity in PLs, the affinity of PEAs’ ethylene oxide segments for CO 2 via Lewis acid-base interactions, and additional free space within organic chains, UIO-66-PLs revealed enhanced CO 2 adsorption capabilities, particularly for CO 2 over N 2 . Encouragingly, CO 2 adsorption of UIO-66-PLs was enhanced by 117.54 % (UIO-66-M1000), 106.01 % (UIO-66-M2070), and 22.45 % (UIO-66-M3085) in capacity relative to the respective pure organic outer layer. It is also observed that while surface engineering improves gas adsorption performance, PEAs with a high molecular weight may partially block UIO-66-(OH) 2 pores, decreasing gas adsorption capacities. Our research showcases the potential of UIO-66-PLs in gas storage and separation applications, offering a new approach to developing materials functionalized with customized organic molecular weights for advanced CO 2 capture technologies.

Industrial gas separation processes demand membranes with superior separation performance under high feed pressures. Herein, we fabricate defect-free hollow fiber membranes (HFMs) using 6FDA-mPDA 0.9 -TFMB 0.1 copolyimide, achieving both exceptional pressure resistance and excellent gas separation performance. Through a dry-jet/wet-quench spinning approach, we systematically optimize the microstructure of the HFMs by adjusting the dope composition and spinning conditions. The results reveal that polymer concentration, dope-to-bore fluid ratio, and take-up rate have a significant impact on the pressure resistance of HFMs. Under optimized conditions, the fabricated HFMs exhibit a high burst pressure of 10.5 MPa, along with excellent gas separation performance, including a He permeance of 72.1 GPU and a He/CH 4 selectivity of 178. Additionally, mixed-gas permeation experiments conducted at feed pressures up to 750 PSIA demonstrate excellent resistance to heavy hydrocarbons. These ultra-strong, high-performance HFMs show great potential for efficient helium separation from natural gas under high-pressure conditions.

During marine oil–gas extraction, significant amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) gas are often produced. Effectively separating these associated CO2gases during extraction has become a critical technical challenge. Therefore, this paper aims to enhance the efficiency of CO2hydrate-based capture technology and conduct relevant research. The goal is to increase the driving force for hydrate formation by combining the traditional thermodynamic additive TBAB with pressure modulation and to improve the hydrate formation rate through the use of multiple kinetic promoters. This paper presents the initial investigation into the effect of the thermodynamic accelerator tetrabutylammonium bromide (TBAB) on the characteristics of CO2hydrate formation. The promotion effects of TBAB solutions with varying mass concentrations (3%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%) and reaction pressures (3 MPa, 4 MPa) were subjected to a systematic analysis, and the optimal conditions were identified as 4 MPa and a 5 wt% TBAB concentration. Subsequently, the impact of combining TBAB with kinetic promoters (SDS, nano Al2O3, L-methionine, L-leucine) on CO2hydrate generation characteristics was further investigated. In this paper, the effect of a single promoter on the generation characteristics of CO2hydrate was investigated, and the efficient carbon trapping ability of the complex promoter was verified, which provides theoretical support for the application of CO2trapping technology using the hydrate method.

P-Xylene is a prevalent indoor hazardous volatile organic compound(VOC). A long-term exposure limit of 100 ppm for p-xylene is generally recommended. Therefore, sensitive and selective detection of trace p-xylene is crucial. This work presents a method for detecting p-xylene gas by combining terahertz (THz) metasurface sensor with a metal-organic-framework (MOF) material, copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate (HKUST-1). The sensor with double split ring resonators is fabricated using a micromachining process and characterized by a terahertz time-domain-spectroscopy (TDS) system. The test results are consistent with the simulation. Subsequently, the sensor's surface is modified using the MOF material of HKUST-1 to enhance its sensitivity to the p-xylene gas. At room temperature, the sensitivity for p-xylene gas concentrations is between 1-100 ppm .The modified sensor has a maximum response frequency shift of 14 GHz for p-xylene gas at 100 ppm. Furthermore, the specificity, repeatability and stability of the sensor are characterized. The proposed method for highly sensitive and specific detection of p-xylene gas has important reference significance for the development of other types of gas sensors.

Hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) synthesis by electrochemical two-electron oxygen reduction has garnered increasing interest as a wide range of potential applications. Gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) can effectively promote the H 2 O 2 production efficiency by overcoming the oxygen mass transfer limitations but strongly influenced by the electrowetting process along the long-term operation. In this study, the effect of trans -electrode pressure (TEP) of GDE cathode on the electrowetting process was further elucidated. We controlled the TEP values of four types of GDEs: two Ni-based GDEs and two carbon cloth GDEs prepared by hot-pressing or brushing carbon black. SBA-15 was further used to regulate the microstructure of one Ni-based GDE. It was found that an optimal range of TEP occurred for all tested GDEs in terms of the max. concentration, the yield efficiency, the energy consumption, and the stability because TEP may change the triple-phase interface and influence the anti-electrowetting effect. The porosity of hot-pressed Ni GDE can maintain the TEP window and thus enhance the production of H 2 O 2 , likely via creating oxygen-containing functional groups and a bimodal pore structure on the electrode, revealed with several characterization techniques including SEM, CA, XPS , Raman spectra, CV and EIS . The porous Ni GDE presented an efficient and stable production of H 2 O 2 for 10 cycles: yielding H 2 O 2 at 4393.2–4602.2 mmol m −2 h −1 with current efficiencies of 94.2–98.7%. The best accumulated H 2 O 2 concentration can reach up to 3.58 ωt% H 2 O 2 at 10 h. The results provide an important reference for the industrial scaleup of electro-production of H 2 O 2 with GDEs.

Existing treatments for androgenetic alopecia (AGA) are unsatisfactory, owing to the two major reasons: (1) Oxidative stress and vascularization deficiency in the perifollicular microenvironment provoke the premature senescence of hair follicles, limiting the transformation of hair growth cycle from the telogen to the anagen phase; (2) The amount of drug delivered to the perifollicular region located in the deep dermis is very limited for passive drug delivery systems. Herein, we developed a gas-propelled microneedle patch integrated with ferrum-chelated puerarin/quercetin nanoparticles (PQFN) to increase drug accumulation in hair follicles and reshape the perifollicular microenvironment for improved hair-regenerating effects. PQFN can rejuvenate testosterone (Tes)-induced senescence of dermal papilla cells by scavenging ROS, restoring mitochondrial function, regulating signaling pathways related to hair regeneration, and upregulating hair growth-promoting genes. PQFN more efficiently promoted endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and tube formation than ferrum-chelated quercetin nanoparticles (QFN) because of puerarin's proangiogenic effects. Compared with passive MNs, gas-propelled MNs promoted drug diffusion and permeation into deeper skin layers, resulting in significantly higher drug accumulation in hair follicles. Pharmacodynamic studies on an AGA mouse model further showed that PQFN-loaded active MNs achieved higher hair coverage by alleviating oxidative stress, promoting angiogenesis, and rejuvenating senescent cells. Therefore, this study presents a novel “anti-hair follicle aging” treatment strategy for AGA.

Nanoellulose-based mechanochromic materials represent a frontier in sustainable optics, offering a renewable platform for advanced functional materials. However, the precise manipulation of cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) into intelligent optical systems remains challenging due to their inherent variability in size and the difficulty of achieving controlled orientation. Herein, we developed a straightforward and scalable strategy to construct mechanochromic CNF hydrogels (MCNFHs) with engineerable interference colors (ranging from yellow, red, blue, green) under compressive stress by exploiting their response to acidic vapor, that is, via simple and feasible gas phase coagulation. Remarkably, MCNFHs displayed excellent solvent resistance, mechanochromic reversibility and mechanochromic sensitivity, which could achieve the switch from black to yellow, red, blue and green under only a load of 0.36 N, a stress of 1.2 KPa, and a strain of 15 %, offering a robust platform for pressure sensing or micro-strains detecting. We also demonstrated that these new MCNFHs can be smoothly applied in optical coding systems for optical encryption. This work highlighted a versatile strategy for creating high performance CNF-based mechanochromic materials, without the need for complicated pre-assembly or precise manipulation of CNF, underscoring their potential in pressure sensing, encryption, and beyond.

Chiral metal-organic cages (MOCs) are a new type of porous materials with unique molecular recognition ability, which have received research attention as a chiral stationary phase (CSP) for gas chromatography (GC). Herein, we report the detailed investigation of a chiral MOC ([Cu 12 (L PA ) 12 (H 2 O) 12 ], PA = L-phenylalanine, MOC-PA) as a novel stationary phase for GC separations. The MOC-PA capillary column exhibited a high-resolution performance for a wide range of analytes, including n-alkanes, n-alcohols, esters, aromatic compounds and the Grob mixture, positional isomers and racemates. In particular, MOC-PA coated column displayed good resolution and performance for amino acid derivatives. Moreover, the MOC-PA column showed excellent separation repeatability and reproducibility. The relative standard deviation (RSD) values for the retention times were in the range of 0.16-0.30% for run to run ( n = 3), 0.31-0.77% for day-to-day ( n = 3), and 3.6-4.7% for column-to-column ( n = 3), respectively. The experimental results showed that MOC-PA had great potential as a GC stationary phase.
