Template-free blade-coating fabricates a MXene/PVDF membrane with gradient pores. • Top-small and bottom-large pores enable fast water transport and heat localization. • One-sun evaporation rate is 1.54 kg m −2 h −1 and photothermal efficiency is 93.66%. • Outstanding salt resistance and long-term durability are achieved. • Desalinated seawater meets both WHO and Chinese standards for drinking water. Addressing the global freshwater scarcity crisis, solar-driven interfacial evaporation represents a promising, energy-efficient desalination technology. Conventional porous evaporators, however, face a fundamental performance trade-off between efficient water supply and effective surface heat localization. To resolve this conflict, this study presents a novel two-dimensional (2D) MXene/polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite membrane featuring an architecturally gradient “top-small, bottom-large” pore structure, fabricated via a straightforward blade-coating and immersion precipitation phase inversion process without any template. This unique design simultaneously enables rapid capillary-driven water transport and confines thermal energy at the evaporation interface. A hydrophobic fluorinated silica (F-SiO 2 ) is further applied to ensure stable self-floating and prevent salt accumulation. The resulting membrane (~0.25 mm thick) demonstrates high porosity (~40.7%) and superior broad-spectrum light absorption (~95%). Under 1-sun illumination, it achieves a high evaporation rate of 1.54 kg m −2 h −1 and a remarkable photothermal conversion efficiency of 93.66%, while also exhibiting excellent cycling stability and salt resistance. Practical desalination tests using Bohai Sea water confirm that the purified water meets both World Health Organization (WHO) and Chinese drinking water standards. This work provides an effective strategy for designing high-performance, low-cost solar evaporator, demonstrating significant potential for scalable desalination and water purification applications. Poly(vinylidene
fluoride) (PVDF)-based piezoelectric materials
are commonly constrained by low polar-phase content. Here, we report
an APTES-assisted in situ crystallization strategy to fabricate PVDF/APTES@CsPbBr 3 nanocomposites. APTES acts as a bifunctional linker that
passivates CsPbBr 3 quantum dot surfaces while introducing
protonated ammonium (−NH 3 + ) groups. When
incorporated into electrospun PVDF fibers, these -NH 3 + groups interact with fluorine atoms of PVDF chains via ionic-dipole
interactions, as evidenced by a blue shift of the C–F stretching
band in Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR). This molecular-level interaction
lowers the free energy barrier for polar phase nucleation, promoting
the transformation from nonpolar α phase to electroactive β
phase, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FT-IR, and differential
scanning calorimetry (DSC). The optimized composite achieves a markedly
higher β-phase fraction compared to pure PVDF and unmodified
CsPbBr 3 composites. As a functional demonstration, the
material delivers substantially enhanced piezoelectric output (130
V) and operates as a self-powered motion sensor. When coupled with
a support vector machine classifier, the system achieves high-accuracy
recognition (94.6%) of diverse human activities. This work establishes
APTES-mediated interfacial engineering as a versatile platform for
controlling polymer crystallization in hybrid systems toward high-performance
piezoelectric applications, with the output enhancement attributed
to a synergistic combination of increased β-phase fraction,
intrinsic piezoelectricity of the perovskite fillers, improved interfacial
stress transfer, and refined fiber morphology.

In the article, PVDF-based composites reinforced by MWCNT and phenolic epoxy resin were prepared by solution casting method to get a material with excellent mechanical properties and high dielectric properties and breakdown strength when conductor is as filler. The experimental results demonstrate that dielectric constant of m-MWCNT/EP/PVDF composites (εr
= 32 at 100 Hz) is twice times higher than that of the EP/PVDF composites, and is about three times higher than that of the pure PVDF. The dielectric loss is not higher than that of the others (Tan δ = 0.3 at 100 Hz). The breakdown strength of the composites is higher than 100 MV/m, which is superior to most of composites modified with conductors. The breakdown strength for most of composites modified with conductors is under 100 MV/m. The elongation at break of m-MWCNT/EP/PVDF composites keeps 500% and the tensile yield strength increases continuously.

Preparation of composite hydrogels by in situ polymerization (SP) using choline chloride (ChCl), acrylamide (AM), and urea (U) as raw materials for deep eutectic solvent (DES), with the introduction of PVA and PVDF as fillers into DES. Characterization of the composite hydrogels was conducted using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This study analyzed the pressure sensitivity, piezoelectricity, swelling behavior, and mechanical properties of the composite hydrogels. The results indicate that due to the dipole–dipole interactions between PVA and PVDF, the composite hydrogels exhibit excellent pressure sensitivity and piezoelectric performance. When the ratio of PVA to PVDF is 1:1, the composite hydrogels exhibit optimal performance, with a 3.37-fold increase in pressure sensitivity and a 6.49-fold increase in piezoelectricity compared to other ratios. This research provides a method for preparing composite hydrogels with excellent piezoelectric performance and pressure sensitivity.

At present, membrane fouling is a thorny issue that limits the development of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) composite membrane , which seriously affects its separation performance and service lifespan. Herein, an imidazole-functionalized graphene oxide (Im-GO) with hydrophilicity and antibacterial performance was synthesized, and it was used as a modifier to improve the anti-organic fouling and antibacterial properties of PVDF membrane. The anti-organic fouling test showed that the maximum flux recovery ratios against bovine serum albumin and humic acid were 88.9% and 94.5%, respectively. Conspicuously, the grafted imidazole groups could effectively prevent the bacteria from growing on the membrane surface. It was gratifying that the antibacterial modifier Im-GO was almost not lost from the hybrid membranes even by the ultrasonic treatment, which was different from the conventional release-killing antibacterial agents. Owing to the long-term anti-organic fouling and antibacterial properties, Im-GO/PVDF hybrid membranes exhibit a great application potential in the fields of rough separation and concentration of biomedical products.

A novel "sheet-on-particle" Z-scheme Bi 2 MoO 6 @BiOBr heterojunction was structurally engineered and immobilized within a porous polyvinylidene fluoride membrane using an integrated ultrasonic-assisted in-situ precipitation and hydrothermal approach. The Bi 2 MoO 6 nanoparticles are uniformly distributed on the BiOBr nanosheets, establishing abundant heterogeneous interfaces that facilitate efficient Z-scheme charge transfer. This configuration enhances the visible light response and reduces carrier recombination. The composite membrane demonstrates exceptional photocatalytic activity, achieving a 98.71% degradation rate of ofloxacin through the predominant action of •O 2 ⁻ and h⁺ species. Its adaptability across a wide pH range and its capability for broad-spectrum pollutant degradation highlight its strong potential for scalable photocatalytic wastewater treatment applications.

The efficient utilization of low-grade thermal energy to produce clean water or electricity is important because it potentially relieves our demand on limited natural water and energy resources. Here, we propose a dual-functional device to couple solar-driven water evaporation and evaporation-induced power generation for concurrent production of clean water and green electricity. Our strategy involves the fabrication of an asymmetric, dual-layered structure by spraying a carbon black/polyvinylidene fluoride mixture onto bamboo filter paper (CB/PVDF@BFP). The upper CB/PVDF layer serves as a light-to-thermal transducer for instantaneous heating, while the bottom BFP layer functions as a hydrophilic porous platform to boost water uptake and transfer. Moreover, water evaporation drives capillary flow of ions on the conductive CB/PVDF layer to create a pseudostream that can be harnessed for power generation. Notably, our dual-functional device delivers a fast water evaporation rate of 1.44 kg m−2 h−1 and a high energy utilization rate of 92% under one sun, beyond the previous carbon-based reports. Through this solar-driven water evaporation process, we achieve the efficient desalination of artificial seawater and decontamination of organic-polluted water by up to 99.8% and nearly 100%, respectively. Our device also concurrently produces high, consistent evaporation-induced electrical outputs with VOC and ISC of 0.32 V and 1.5 μA, respectively. The generated electrical outputs can be easily stored by charging a capacitor to over 1.5 V within 15 minutes and be subsequently utilized on demand to power common household electronics. By enabling the efficient coupling of multiple solar-driven processes, our work will catalyze the design of next-generation multifunctional devices to ensure electricity and potable water are easily accessible by everyone, especially remote areas without power stations and/or water treatment facilities.

Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) possess excellent post-modification characteristics, high specific surface area, diversity of skeleton composition and pore tunability, have been increasingly applied in membrane modifications. In this work, NH 2 -MIL-88B(Fe) (NM88B) was first fixed onto polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane by polyethyleneimine (PEI) through a vacuum-assisted self-assembly process, and the deposited NM88B was subsequently grafted with perfluoroalkyl polyethoxyacetic acid (FPEOAA) via a condensation reaction to realize the surface modifications. The modified membranes (named as N1F x ) showed improved hydrophilicity and underwater-oleophobicity. In addition, very high pure water flux (up to 9403 L‧m −2 ‧h −1 ) was obtained for the N1F x membranes due to the high porosity of introduced NM88B. In the dead-end filtration experiments of n -hexadecane-water emulsion, the optimum membrane N1F20 showed a good oil rejection rate (98.3%) and high permeation flux (667 L‧m −2 ‧h −1 ) which is approximately seven times of the pure PVDF membrane, indicating that the surface-modified membranes had excellent permeability and good separation performance. Even after four filtration cycles of oil-water emulsion, the rejection rate maintained higher than 97%, showing good reusability. Furthermore, the study found that N1F20 had certain acid and alkaline resistance and great potential for engineering applications.

High-performance flexible barium titanate (BaTiO3)-based piezoelectric devices have gained much attention. However, it is still a challenge to prepare flexible polymer/BaTiO3-based composite materials with uniform distribution and high performance due to the high viscosity of polymers. In this study, novel hybrid BaTiO3 particles were synthesized with assistance of TEMPO-oxidized cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) via a low-temperature hydrothermal method and explored for their application in piezoelectric composites. Specifically, Ba2+ was adsorbed on uniformly dispersed CNFs with a large amount of negative charge on their surface, which nucleated, resulting in the synthesis of evenly dispersed CNF-BaTiO3. The obtained CNF-BaTiO3 possessed a uniform particle size, few impurities, high crystallinity and dispersity, high compatibility with the polymer substrate and surface activity due to the existence of CNFs. Subsequently, both polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) and TEMPO-oxidized CNFs were employed as piezoelectric substrates for the fabrication of a CNF/PVDF/CNF-BaTiO3 composite membrane with a compact structure, displaying the tensile strength of 18.61 ± 3.75 MPa and elongation at break of 3.06 ± 1.33%. Finally, a thin piezoelectric generator (PEG) was assembled, which output a considerable open-circuit voltage (4.4 V) and short-circuit current (200 nA), and could also power a light-emitting diode and charge a 1 μF capacitor to 3.66 V in 500 s. Its longitudinal piezoelectric constant (d33) was 5.25 ± 1.04 pC N−1 even with a small thickness. It also exhibited high sensitivity to human movement, outputting a voltage of about 9 V and current of 739 nA for only a footstep. Thus, it exhibited good sensing property and energy harvesting property, presenting practical application prospects. This work provides a new idea for the preparation of hybrid BaTiO3 and cellulose-based piezoelectric composite materials.

Fluoropolymer/inorganic nanofiller composites are considered to be ideal polymer dielectrics for energy storage applications because of their high dielectric constant and high breakdown strength. However, these advantages are a trade-off with the unavoidable aggregation of the inorganic nanofillers, which result in a reduced discharge of the energy storage density. To address this problem, we developed polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) graft copolymer/cellulose-derivative composites to achieve high-dielectric and energy-storage density properties. An enhanced dielectric constant and improved energy density were achieved with this structure. The optimal composites exhibited a high discharge energy density of 8.40 J/cm3at 300 MV/m. This work provides new insight into the development of all-organic composites with bio-based nanofillers. Keywords:polyvinylidene fluoride;graft modification;cyanoethyl cellulose;composites;polymer dielectrics

Poor solid–solid interfacial compatibility has been a troubling challenge to the development of solid-state lithium metal batteries . For this purpose, inspired by mussel mimetic chemistry, the homogeneous ionic interfaces and channels between PVDF matrix and SiO 2 nanospheres were built by grafting sulfonate betaine (SB) on their surfaces via Schiff base reaction and ring opening reaction. Furthermore, the influence of SB-SiO 2 content on the structure, mechanical properties , thermal stability and electrochemical performances of the composite solid-state electrolyte was also studied. Desirably, Li + transference number and ionic conductivity of 8%SB-SiO 2 /SB-PVDF/LiTFSI electrolyte membrane were as high as 0.50 and 5.5 × 10 −5 S/cm, respectively, much higher than those of the counterparts in literatures. Uniform dispersion of SB-SiO 2 nanospheres in 8%SB-SiO 2 /SB-PVDF/LiTFSI electrolyte membrane built the homogeneous continuous ion channels, while the homogeneous structure of SB-PVDF and PVDF binder in the electrode also facilitated the interface compatibility of the membrane/electrode, and thus the synergistic effect improved the Li + transference number. The reversible specific capacity of LiFePO 4 // 8%SB-SiO 2 / SB-PVDF / LiTFSI // Li battery was 129.7 mAh/g at 1.0 C for 200 cycles, higher than those of other two electrolyte membranes, meanwhile, high-voltage LCO//8%SB-SiO 2 /SB-PVDF/LiTFSI//Li battery also exhibited good Li-storage performance, indicating high feasibility of 8%SB-SiO 2 /SB-PVDF/LiTFSI electrolyte membrane in solid-state lithium metal batteries .

Effective oil/water separation is urgently demanded but still remains a global challenge. Membranes with super-wettability have been rapidly developed, but most of the membranes are suffered from the complicated fabrication procedures and inability of separating different types of emulsions. In this work, super-amphiphilic PVDF composite membranes were developed via synchronous in-situ growth and immobilization of Ag nanoparticles during phase inversion. This method allowed the membrane formation and nanoparticle immobilization at the same time. The impact of silver growth time on the surface morphology and wettability was comprehensively investigated. The introduction of Ag nanoparticles endowed the membranes with micro/nano-structures and super-wetting property, which made the membrane possess reversible under-liquid superamphiphobicity. The PVDF composite membranes exhibited high permeate flux and outstanding separation efficiency for different surfactant-stabilized oil/water emulsions. Moreover, the prepared membranes could be regenerated through a facile method of rinsing and drying and the high separation performance could be maintained after repeated cycles, indicating the outstanding anti-fouling performance of the membranes. Furthermore, the PVDF composite membranes exhibited superior antibacterial performance. This work made progress in fabricating super-wetting membranes with excellent emulsion separation performance and the membranes can be prospective candidate for oily-mixture separation in practical applications.
