TT-COF/RGO three-dimensional porous structure improves electronic conductivity and stability. • Electrochemical signals are amplified through the electrodeposition of silver nanoparticles. • MIPs achieve highly selective and specific capture of BPA. • A linear range of 0.25–500 nM and a detection limit 0.09 nM. Herein, we developed an electrochemical sensor based on molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) for the sensitive detection of bisphenol A (BPA) in food samples. The sensing platform was constructed based on ternary AgNPs/TT-COF/RGO hybrid architecture. Subsequently, a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) film was electrodeposited onto the modified electrode using o -phenylenediamine ( o -PD) as the functional monomer and BPA as the template molecule. By integrating the high surface area of RGO, the readily accessible binding sites of TT-COF, and the efficient electron-transfer capability of AgNPs, the ternary AgNPs/TT-COF/RGO hybrid architecture achieves highly sensitive BPA detection. Under optimized conditions, the sensor exhibited a wide linear range of 0.25–500 nM and a low detection limit of 0.09 nM. With its excellent selectivity and sensitivity, the proposed sensor serves as a reliable platform for accurate BPA detection in complex food matrices. We propose an electrochemical sensor based on a MIP/AgNPs/TT-COF/RGO composite for highly selective detection of BPA in complex food samples. The sensor features a tightly integrated composite of RGO and TT-COF, which possesses ordered channels and an electron-rich surface, forming a three-dimensional porous conductive framework that significantly enhances electron transfer efficiency. AgNPs are then electrodeposited onto this framework, leveraging their localized surface plasmon resonance effect and catalytic activity to further amplify the electrochemical response signal at the interface. Finally, the incorporation of MIP enables specific recognition of BPA. Following systematic optimization, the sensor exhibits a broad linear range (0.25–500 nM) and low detection limit (0.09 nM), along with excellent selectivity, reproducibility, and stability. In this work, a high-performance sensor based on a multimode fiber-thin core fiber-multimode fiber (MMF–TCF–MMF) structure is demonstrated. By using a continuous Au film and covalently anchored AgNPs on the TCF surface, the synergistic coupling between exciting surface plasmon resonance (SPR) and localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) is realized. Following a systematic optimization guided by COMSOL simulations and experimental validation, the refractive index (RI) sensitivity reached 2525.06 nm/RIU with a figure of merit (FOM) of 9.494 RIU−1, and the temperature sensitivity reached −1.07 nm/°C. The system demonstrated excellent linearity, repeatability, and stability. The proposed sensor effectively merges cost-efficiency with robust precision, showing significant potential for biochemical, environmental, and industrial sensing applications.

The excessive activation of sympathetic nerve is closely related to cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). In this study, we developed a novel MIL-100(Fe)@Ag surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) substrate for the simultaneous and effective detection of plasma norepinephrine (NE) and adenosine—two pivotal sympathetic hormones. The microscopic morphology and crystal structure of the substrate were characterized using techniques such as transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Mechanistically, the HOMO-LUMO energy levels of the detection molecules were calculated using Gaussian. The substrate realized a dual SERS enhancement mechanism through the synergistic effect of localized surface plasmon resonance and interfacial charge transfer. Consequently, the MIL-100(Fe)@Ag platform exhibited high-sensitivity quantitative detection capabilities for NE and adenosine: the detection limit for NE is 0.596 nmol/L; the detection limit for adenosine is 0.24 nmol/L. Crucially, when applied to patients with pheochromocytoma—a neuroendocrine tumor characterized by plasma catecholamine surges, this method achieved robust and stable detection of plasma NE. It offered comparable diagnostic accuracy to conventional mass spectrometry while significantly reducing analysis complexity. Therefore, this innovative strategy may hold great promise for the long-term, decentralized monitoring of sympathetic nerve activity in populations at risk for CVDs or related clinical disorders.

The present study illustrates the facile synthesis of silver nanoparticles capped with sulfur and nitrogen co-doped carbon dots (AgNPs@SNCDs) nanocomposites and their application towards the sensitive and selective detection of glutathione (GSH) using a spectrofluorimetry method. SNCDs were synthesized using solvothermal treatment of cysteamine hydrochloride and p -phenylenediamine. The as-fabricated SNCDs were then utilized as capping and stabilizing agents for the preparation of AgNPs@SNCDs nanocomposites using wet chemistry. The size of AgNPs@SNCDs nanocomposites was characterized to be ~37.58 nm or even larger aggregates. Particularly, the quenched fluorescence of AgNPs@SNCDs nanocomposites could be significantly restored upon addition of GSH, and the colour of its solution changed to some extent. The fluorescence intensity ratio of AgNPs@SNCDs nanocomposites at ~450 nm and 550 nm was directly proportional to the GSH concentration within the ranges 8.35–66.83 μM and 66.83–200.5 μM, and the detection limit was 0.52 μM. Furthermore various common organic molecules had no obvious interference in the detection mode. The proposed nanosensor was successfully applied for GSH assay in actual water samples.

Herein, colloidal nanocrystal clusters (CNCs) formed from lignosulfonate (LS) and Ag nanoparticles (LS@AgNPs) were prepared by in situ reduction, confined growth, and self-assembly methods. The LS micelles in solution served as a confined nano-reactor for the growth of AgNPs, and the phenolic hydroxyl groups in the structure provided complex sites as well as played a reducing role for the Ag ions. Following the addition of cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide and anti-solvents, LS colloidal nanoparticles were achieved through self-assembly of LS micelles, and the AgNPs in the micelles entered the inner phase, forming the core@shell CNCs. However, the AgNPs in the CNCs were large in size (50 nm), few in number (<10 n/n), and unevenly distributed. The reason for this may be the low reduction ability of LS resulting in the loss of controlled growth of AgNPs in LS micelles. In contrast, the extra addition of a strong reducing agent significantly decreased the size of AgNPs and led to their more uniform distribution in the CNCs. Furthermore, LS@AgNPs CNCs showed good antibacterial activity, especially against Staphylococcus aureus (+). We expect these green, sustainable composite nanoparticles can be further applied in many other fields as well.

In this paper, deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) with different lengths were used to control the distance between carbon dots (CDs) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in self-assembled multilayers (SAMs). Surface-enhanced fluorescence and fluorescence resonance energy transfer (SEF-FRET) could be achieved based on changing DNA strands. The fluorescence intensity of CDs SAMs with 6-base DNA strands could be enhanced up to ca. 5.6 times by AgNPs. As-fabricated CDs SAMs with excellent luminescent properties, superior stability have been employed for the development of a label-free fluorescence sensing platform for DNA detection. Since DNA would hybridize with the complemented one which was attached on the surface of SAMs, resulting in a close distance between CDs and AgNPs, FRET could thus occur between AgNPs and CDs, resulting in quenching the fluorescence of CDs SAMs. This sensitive sensing platform could show excellent analytical performance for detecting DNA with a linear response ranging from 93.07 pM to 5.433 nM and a detection limit of 16.36 pM, which could be further employed to probe human blood samples. This could prove a promising method for the detection of DNA.

A novel Au-Ag nanoparticles (NPs) on multi-walled carbon nanotubes/sulfonated graphene sheets modified glassy carbon electrode (Au-AgNPs/MWNTs-SGSs/GCE) was prepared to determine mangiferin (MIN) and icariin (IIN) by electrochemical methods Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy showed that Au-AgNPs were electrodeposited on drape and tubular structure of MWNTs-SGSs/GCE successfully. The modified electrode had high electroactivities against both MIN and IIN. The anodic peak currents of MIN and IIN on the GCE modified by Au-AgNPs/MWNTs-SGSs were much higher than those on the bare GCE. Differential pulse voltammetry showed a wide detection range of 0.05 ∼ 500.0 μM for MIN and 0.05 ∼ 100.0 μM for IIN, with low detection limits (0.017 μM both) as well as high sensitivity, selectivity and repeatability. Au-AgNPs/MWNTs-SGSs/GCE was successfully applied to simultaneously detect MIN and IIN in Rhizoma anemarrhenae and to independently determine MIN in Artemisia capillaris Herba and IIN in the leaves of Epimedium macranthum .

There is an urgent need to develop materials to prevent bacterial infection and the deleterious effects of endotoxins. In this study, we introduce a one-step electrodeposition method to prepare films composed of chitosan/Ag/polypyrrole and layer-by-layer self-assembly to introduce lignin sulphonate (LS) to obtain chitosan/Ag/polypyrrole/LS films. Antibacterial effects against both E. coli and S. aureus are shown by bacterial growth profiles and observation of bacteriostatic zones. Meanwhile, the addition of self-assembled LS improved the antibacterial effect of the film. For E. coli , the inhibition zone diameter was 0.93 cm, while for S. aureus , the inhibition zone diameter was 0.72 cm. Rapid and efficient endotoxin adsorption effects were shown whereby the electrostatic interactions between chitosan and endotoxin molecules played a major role. After adsorption for 1 h, in initial concentration of 1 EU/mL endotoxin solution, the adsorption efficiency could reach up to 85 %, while in initial concentration of 5 EU/mL endotoxin solution, the adsorption efficiency could reach up to 87.6 %. The results suggest chitosan/Ag/polypyrrole/LS films for their capability as a new type of antibacterial film with intrinsic endotoxin adsorption activity.

Bacterial infection remains one of the most serious and growing health issues, which leads to millions of human deaths every year. Development of an efficient photothermal sterilization platform is thus of great significance for treating bacterial infection. However, single photothermal treatment usually requires relatively high temperatures (55–65 °C) to kill bacteria, which inevitably induces damage to surrounding healthy tissues. The combination of photothermal therapy with an antibacterial agent can overcome this challenge by decreasing the photothermal temperature. Herein, an injectable and self-healing hybrid hydrogel was prepared for photothermal antisepsis at high efficiency under mild conditions. The hybrid hydrogel was prepared by self-polymerization of dopamine into a photothermal agent polydopamine and simultaneous reduction of silver ions to silver nanoparticles in a chitosan network. As expected, the obtained hybrid hydrogel exhibits good mechanical properties and self-healing ability, meaning that it can spontaneously recover after mechanical damage, maintain its integrity, and restore its original functions with a longer lifetime. Moreover, the antibacterial results indicate that the hybrid hydrogel displays commendable antimicrobial ability both in vitro and in an in vivo mice wound model under mild photothermal conditions. Besides this, no obvious toxicity was detected during the treatment process. Overall, the hybrid hydrogel may serve as a promising candidate for wound treatment in the clinic.

Infection is the major reason that people die from burns; however, traditional medical dressings such as gauze cannot restrain bacterial growth and enhance the healing process. Herein, an organic- and inorganic-base hydrogel with antibacterial activities was designed and prepared to treat burn wounds. Oxidized dextran (ODex) and adipic dihydrazide grafted hyaluronic acid (HA-ADH) were prepared, mixed with quaternized chitosan (HACC) and silver nanoparticles to fabricate[email protected]/HA-ADH/HACC hydrogel. The hydrogel, composed of nature biomaterials, has a good cytocompatibility and biodegradability. Moreover, the hydrogel has an excellent antibacterial ability and presents fast healing for burn wounds compared with commercial Ag dressings. The[email protected]/HA-ADH/HACC hydrogel will be a promising wound dressing to repair burn wounds and will significantly decrease the possibility of bacterial infection. Keywords:infected burn wound;antibacterial hydrogel;silver nanoparticles

Rutin is one of the biologically active functional components present in a wide range of pharmacological applications. Herein, we reported the preparation of selective electrochemical sensor based on poly(3,4-ethylene-dioxythiophene) (PEDOT)-mesoporous carbon (MC) for rutin determination. The composite material was synthesized by in-situ polymerization and characterized using different analytical techniques such as FT-IR and SEM to evaluate the composition and the morphology. Cyclic voltammetry was performed for the electrochemical characterization of different modified electrodes and the parameters influencing the sensitivity of PEDOT-MC/AgNPs toward rutin such as accumulation time and pH were optimized. Under optimal conditions, the modified electrode provides a wide linear range and low limit of detection using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The GCE/PEDOT-MC/AgNPs electrochemical sensor shows high sensitivity, long duration stability, and good reproducibility and the PEDOT-MC/AgNPs have been successfully used for the detection of rutin in real samples.

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) including a mix of intact nanoparticle-Ag and ‘free’ Ag + pose high risks to benthic photoautotrophs, but the photosynthetic responses of benthic microbial aggregates to AgNPs still remain largely unknown. Here, periphyton and Nostoc were used to elucidate the photosynthetic responses of benthic algae community to intact nanoparticle-Ag and Ag + . During exposure, both intact nanoparticle-Ag and Ag + imposed negative effects on photosynthesis of benthic algae, but via different pathways. Specifically, Ag + had stronger effects on damaging the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC) and thylakoid membrane than intact nanoparticle-Ag. Ag + also suppressed electron transfer from Q A to Q B , and impaired phycobilisome. Intact nanoparticle-Ag inhibited the expression of PsbD and PsbL in PSII, but prompted the ROS scavenging capacity. In response to the stress of AgNPs, the benthic algae increased light energy absorption to maintain the electron transport efficiency, and up-regulated PSI reaction center protein (PsaA) to compensate the degraded PSII. These results reveal how intact nanoparticle-Ag and Ag + influence electron transport, energy conversion and protein expression in the photosynthesis of periphyton, and provide deep insights into the responses of benthic photoautotrophs to different components of AgNPs.
