In this work, a 3D IR artificial compound eye (ACE) optical component is fabricated using thermoplastic IR polymer material. The femtosecond laser-assisted wet etching and the 3D nano-imprinting techniques are proposed for fabricating this thin shell multi-aperture component. The prepared component is close-packed with over 1000 high-quality micro-facet-lenslets (ommatidia) on the semispherical thin shell dome with base radius of 2.7 mm and sag height of 2.1 mm, enabling enlarged field of view to 148°. The ommatidia with diameter of 150 µm and numerical aperture of 0.35 are demonstrated to have a practical spatial resolution up to 160 lp mm −1 . IR imaging experiments (both in passive and active scenarios) confirm its outstanding optical properties and uniformity, and demonstrate the probability of thermal target imaging with such component in the near-infrared band. The proposed fabrication strategy shows remarkable efficiency and advantage in massive replication, and such ACE component predicts its potential in emerging applications, such as IR imaging, target tracking, and so on.

Developing efficient and stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts is vital to advancing the expansion of water-splitting for green hydrogen production. However, the high overpotential and unsatisfactory stability of electrocatalysts have been significant obstacles. Herein, hydrothermal and cathodic electrodeposition are utilized to prepare an atomically dispersed Ir-doped Co3S4 electrocatalyst (Ir–Co3S4) as precatalysts, exhibiting a record-low overpotential (158 mV at 10 mA cm–2) and ultrahigh stability (1000 h at 100 mA cm–2) in 1 M KOH after activation, making it one of the best-performing OER anodes. In situ characterizations and theoretical calculations demonstrated that Ir–Co3S4 undergoes a precatalytic evolution of sulfur–oxygen exchange to form a dual-anionic coordination environment, which is conducive to enhancing the activity of CoOOH formation at operating voltages. Ir–Co dual active sites in Ir–Co3S4/CoOxHy could trigger the OER via a kinetically advantageous oxide coupling mechanism (OCM). Furthermore, in conjunction with the Raman findings, the molecular dynamics simulations demonstrate that the SO42– generated by the electrode exerts a role in repelling Cl– through dense coverage and electrostatic repulsion, demonstrating the potential being used in saline-alkaline water splitting. This work proposes combining single noble metal atoms with economically efficient metal sulfide catalysts and presents a rational design approach for hydrogen production electrocatalysts.

Developing efficient and stable single-atom catalysts (SACs) for acidic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) offers a promising direction toward achieving economical and sustainable development of proton exchange membrane water electrolysis (PEMWE). However, their widespread application remains hindered by intrinsic stability challenges. Herein, we engineered an m-Ir SA -CeO 2 catalyst featuring an Ir-O-Ce 4-δ (0 < δ <1) coordination that delivered exceptional efficiency and stability in PEMWE. In this configuration, low-valent Ce species stabilized high-valent Ir active sites through lattice charge compensation, significantly enhancing catalyst activity and durability. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations revealed electron transfer from Ir to Ce through the Ir-O-Ce 4-δ coordination, which optimized oxygen intermediate adsorption in the adsorbate evolution mechanism and reduced the ionic character of Ir O bonds to boost intrinsic activity and structural stability. The m-Ir SA -CeO 2 achieved a 267 mV overpotential with >500 h stability at 10 mA cm −2 in 0.1 M HClO 4 . Furthermore, the PEMWE electrolyzer employing the m-Ir SA -CeO 2 anode catalyst maintained stable operation at 100 mA cm −2 for >1000 h with an ultralow Ir loading of 0.12 mg cm −2 .

Reducing the size and increasing the dispersity of the noble metals are effective ways to decrease the dosage and simultaneously increase their electrocatalytic activities for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The Ir−Au bimetallic nanoparticle modified silicon nanowires (Ir−Au−Si) with ultralow content of Ir are prepared and served to catalyze HER in the acid condition. The small Ir−Au nanoparticles are in-situ grown and uniformly dispersed on the surface of silicon nanowires. Ir−Au−Si exhibits a significantly increased activity in HER catalysis compared with Ir−Si and Pt−Au−Si. Ir provides the active sites for HER, Au increases the electron transfer rate, and the silicon nanowires improve the speed of the hydrogen gas evolution. The optimal Ir−Au−Si-2 shows a low Tafel slope of 24 mV dec −1 and high mass activity, which are better than those of Ir−Si and Pt−Au−Si catalysts. Graphical They're all in this together : Ir provides the active sites, Au increases the electron transfer rate, and the silicon nanowires improve the speed of the hydrogen gas evolution. The synergy of Ir, Au and silicon nanowires make Ir−Au−Si an excellent catalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction.

Infrared (IR) thermal imaging offers a reliable technique in the field of gas detection, it can convert the invisible IR radiation into a visible IR image based on the temperature difference between the target and the background or the parts of the target, and its gas selectivity mainly depends on the spectral absorption properties of the target gas in IR spectrum . Unfortunately, owing to weak absorption in the IR region , the precise selective detection of hydrogen can therefore be quite challenging by using traditional IR detection methods. To address the limitations of IR thermal imaging technology in hydrogen detection and enhance its hydrogen selectivity, a novel catalytic IR thermal imaging-based hydrogen monitoring platform is proposed and demonstrated. To achieve specific hydrogen selection, a hydrogen-sensitive highly-exothermic mesoporous material , Pt-WO 3 , is designed and prepared, which can be used as highly-active catalysts to specifically activate exothermic reaction between hydrogen and oxygen at room temperature, and a common IR camera can become a hydrogen-selective gas detection device by adding a Pt-WO 3 -based window plate, the IR radiation changes on Pt-WO 3 -based window plate surface caused by exothermic reaction can be rapidly and accurately recognized by using IR camera. Additionally, real-time image processing can be used to create high-resolution IR images from original low-resolution IR images and can promote to further improve the detection accuracy. Through analyzing the performance, it can be concluded that the hydrogen detection platform assembled with a higher Pt-WO 3 mass or density window plate is more sensitive to hydrogen. When the hydrogen concentration rises to 1.6 % and a 2.0 mg and 3 mm coating diameter Pt-WO 3 -coated window plate is selected as a hydrogen selective element, the maximum surface temperature of the hydrogen selective window plate reaches 100.76℃ (which contains the ambient background temperature component), however, this is accompanied by a longer response and recovery time. While a 0.5 mg and 4 mm coating diameter Pt-WO 3 -coated window plate is selected as a hydrogen selective element, and hydrogen concentration is 0.5 %, the response and recovery time of this catalytic IR hydrogen detection system is 17 s and 24 s at room temperature. Experimental results indicate that this catalytic IR thermal imaging-based hydrogen detection scheme has the potential to offer a novel solution in the field of gas monitoring.

‘Outstanding’ electrocatalysts towards oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are springing up at present, to the extent that one questions if most nanomaterials are inherently highly active electrocatalysts . The answer is negative for certain easy-to-ignore data processing errors could lead to potential misjudgment of electrocatalytic activity. Combing through 100 highly cited papers (ESI 1% in Web of Science) concerning OER published in the last three years, the applications of uncompensated potential ( iR s )-correction rates are severely inconsistent. Herein, taking the benchmarks RuO 2 and IrO 2 as model catalysts, the authors investigated the effects of various iR s -correction rates on OER performance (overpotential, Tafel slope, and turnover frequency). The unanticipated discoveries may provoke a re-examination of those reported as ‘great’ OER electrocatalysts as well as help draw attention to iR s -correction rates in the field of electrocatalysis .

A modified kaolinite by grafting with phytic acid (PA-g-Kaol) is fabricated, and it was introduced into ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) with intumescent flame retardancy (IFR) together to improve the flame retardancy of EVA composites. The results show the limiting oxygen index value of EVA/ (18.0 wt% IFR)/ (2.0 wt% PA-g-Kaol) is 30.8%. Meanwhile, there is only one dripping produced in the vertical burning test. What's more, the flame-retardant mechanism is demonstrated by TG-IR, real-time-IR and GC–MS analysis. The results indicate that some pyrolytic products of IFR and PA-g-Kaol, like ammonia and phosphoric acid, catalyze the crosslinking of EVA and flame retardant, the resultant compact char protects the substrate from further burning.

Non-carbon materials are considered as the promising candidates for carbon-based catalyst support to increase the durability of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Due to the high stability and good electrical conductivity of TiO2, M-doped TiO2 (M is
transition metals: Mo, Ru, V, W) is an emerging candidate for Pt nanoparticles support on the cathode side of PEMFCs. In this research, the synthesis mechanism of Ti0.7Ir0.3O2 nanostructure by the one-step hydrothermal method at low temperature was studied.
We found that by only controlling the pH of the precursor solution, Ti0.7Ir0.3O2 can be synthesized with different morphology and phase selection without any formation of mixed oxides. In particular, Ti0.7Ir0.3O2 nanostructure
synthesized at pH = 0 exhibited concomitant anatase, brookite, and rutile phases. The spherical particles of diameter 20–40 nm, cubic particles of 30–50 nm in side-length and rod-like particles with 70 nm in length and 20 nm in diameter represented the anatase, brookite, and rutile
phases respectively. At a pH value of 1 or 2, the majority of spherical nanoparticles were homogeneous at 15–20 nm in diameter. It was observed that the electronic conductivity of novel Ti0.7Ir0.3O2 nanostructure was significantly higher than that of
the undoped TiO2. Thus the promising properties of this new nanostructure open a new path to the much-needed fuel cell applications.

The size and distribution of Sc 2 O 3 in the composite powder precursor has great effect on the emission property of scandate cathode. By one-step in-situ synthesis method, the composite powder exhibits the structure of quasi-spherical Sc 2 O 3 nanoparticles grown in situ on the surface of W/Ir grains, and the obtained W–Ir cathode with 3wt % Sc 2 O 3 could provide the emission current density of 83.43 A/cm 2 at 900 °C b , which is higher than other W–Ir mixed matrix scandate cathodes and W matrix scandate cathode. The XRD results showed that the high emission ability depended on the high content of active phase α-Ba 2 ScAlO 5 and low content of non-active phase BaAl 2 O 4 . In-situ TEM has been applied to observe the microstructure evolution of the cathode surface at high temperature for the first time. A serial change in the microstructural features of cathode surface and the migration of Ba, Sc and O on the substrate surface has been found, confirming the formation of Ba-Sc-O active layer. The first-principles calculations indicate that the active substances (Sc) are more stable (low adsorption energy of − 8.58 eV) on the IrW matrix cathode surface than on the tungsten matrix cathode surface, which is consistent with the low evaporation rate of the active substance detected by TFMS technique. Besides, the interaction between the active substance and the matrix was strengthened due to more electron transfer of Sc (1.88 e) and Ba (1.45 e), therefore lowering the work function . The feasible preparation technique makes such a cathode promising for applications in high-power microwave devices.

High-valent metal single atoms generally exhibit exceptional electrocatalytic activity because of their rapid electron-transfer kinetics. However, their synthesis remains a formidable challenge owing to intrinsic instability under typical preparation conditions. Herein, atomically dispersed Ir3+ single atoms were successfully stabilized on a NiS2 matrix via a substitutional replacement of Ni lattice sites by Ir, followed by coordination with adjacent S atoms. The resulting catalyst delivers outstanding oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance, achieving a current density of 10 mA cm−2 at an overpotential of only 190 mV. Density-functional theory calculations reveal that the high oxidation state of Ir upshifts the Ni d-band center toward the Fermi level, thereby strengthening OOH* adsorption and accelerating the OER kinetics. This work not only provides a robust strategy for constructing high-valent single-atom catalysts but also highlights the pivotal role of sulfide supports in stabilizing high oxidation states for advanced electrocatalysis.

The exploration of highly active catalysts with superior stability for overall water splitting has received considerable attention. Although intensive efforts have been made to design numerous electrocatalysts for water splitting in alkaline media, only a few electrocatalysts have been developed for proton exchange membrane (PEM)-based electrolyzers in acidic media. Herein, we report a colloidal synthesis of well dispersed ultrasmall Ir NPs with narrow size distribution, of superior catalytic activity and stability toward HER and OER in acidic media. When further used as both an anode and a cathode for acidic overall water splitting, the as-synthesized monodisperse Ir NPs yield a current density of 10 mA cm−2 at 1.58 V with long-term stability.

Noble metal based one-dimensionally (1D) bimetallic nanostructures are attracting increasing interest in energy conversion field because of their structural advantages and tunable chemical composition. At present, the facile and efficient synthesis of high-quality Au-core noble metal-shell nanowires still maintains the challenge. Herein, we develop a feasible one-pot chemical-reduction strategy to rapidly synthesize high-quality Au@Ir core–shell nanowires (Au@Ir CSNWs) in 1-naphthol ethanol solution and explore their potential application in electrocatalysis. Expermattial results show the formation core–shell structure originates from the deposition-growth of Ir atoms at preferentially generated Au nanowires surface. When using as an electrocatalyst towards oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in alkaline media, Au@Ir CSNWs show Pt-like ORR electroactivity due to the compositional synergism effect and structural advantages of 1D nanowires, accompanying with excellent durability and extremely enhanced methanol tolerance towards ORR.
