Real-time monitoring of dopamine (DA) is vital for understanding neurophysiological processes and diagnosing neurological disorders. Flexible and stretchable sensors are particularly attractive for wearable or implantable bioelectronics, as they offer conformal contact with soft, dynamic biological tissues. However, achieving high selectivity in such platforms remains a major challenge, especially in the presence of structurally similar catecholamines such as epinephrine (EP), which often coexist with DA in physiological environments. Here, we report a highly stretchable hydrogel-based DA sensor constructed from acrylamide (AAM), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), and molybdenum disulfide (MoS2). CNTs enhance the electrical conductivity of the hydrogel network, while MoS2 provides selective affinity toward DA, enabling strong molecular discrimination against EP and common electroactive interferents such as ascorbic acid and uric acid. The resulting AAM/CNT/MoS2 hydrogel exhibits excellent mechanical durability, maintaining structural integrity under 50% strain and surviving 15 repeated stretch-release cycles (0–50%) without loss of sensing performance. The sensor achieves a low detection limit of 6.1 nM and maintains reliable DA response even in the presence of high concentrations of EP. This work presents a promising strategy toward soft, selective, and interference-resilient biosensors for dynamic neurochemical sensing.

The call for green economy has accelerated the research development of energy-saving optoelectronic devices. The choice of photoelectric material and the design of device configuration are crucial for achieving high device performances. In this study, we investigated the photoelectric response behaviors of van der Waals (vdW) heterostructure photodetectors by employing a type-II MnPSe 3 /MoS 2 heterojunction for charge carrier transport. Two types of device architectures were designed, one has a vertically stacked heterostructure with the photogenerated carriers transferring in an out-of-plane direction in the overlapped area of both materials; the other utilized the photogating effect using the top MoS 2 as the photogate for the carrier distribution modulation and MnPSe 3 at the bottom as the carrier transport channel. Both PDs demonstrated a broadband photoelectric response in the range of 254-1020 nm under the biased condition. Besides, the former device demonstrated a distinct self-powered behavior with the spectral detection range spanning from 365 nm to 635 nm, which was ascribed to higher charge carrier separation efficiency by the built-in electric field of the MnPSe 3 /MoS 2 heterojunction and the asymmetric barrier heights between two metal-semiconductor interfaces. This study reveals the possibility for harnessing the MnPSe 3 /MoS 2 hybrid vdW in low-power consuming optoelectronic devices and its application potential in broadband photoelectric detection.

To solve the limited active sites, high carrier recombination rate, and the photo-corrosion issues of layered MoS 2 , a novel chemically bonded BaTiO 3 /MoS 2 (BM-x, x = 2, 5, 10, and 20) dual piezoelectric heterojunction was synthesized. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations combined with experimental characterizations revealed that chemical bonds are formed between the 3d orbitals of Ti in BaTiO 3 and the 3p orbitals of S in MoS 2 . These strong interactions enable BaTiO 3 to be firmly anchored on the surface of 2D MoS 2 sheets and thus enhance the structural stability of the catalyst. Furthermore, the intimate interfacial contact facilitates electron transfer from BaTiO 3 to MoS 2 , while the formed type-II heterostructure induces a built-in electric field that significantly improves the generation and separation of photogenerated charge carriers. Under the synergistic effect of ultrasonic vibration and light irradiation, the valence band maximum (VBM) and conduction band minimum (CBM) of the two phases become tilted, resulting in a significant increase in the planar potential difference between them and therefore enhancing the built-in electric field. Thus, the BM-10 sample achieves a high degradation rate and an excellent Cr(VI) removal efficiency. These findings provide new insights into the structural regulation and the optimization of catalytic activity for MoS 2 -based piezoelectric photocatalysts.

As human society continues to develop and progress, the hazards posed to human health by emerging pollutants are becoming increasingly serious due to their unique characteristics such as specific toxicity, persistence, and bioaccumulation. It is critical to develop highly sensitive, renewable nonmetallic surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) platforms for environmental monitoring, particularly for the trace detection of mercury ions in water. Here, we utilized a band-tunable F4TCNQ/MoS2 heterojunction achieving an ultrasensitive limit of detection (LOD) of 2.77 × 10–11 M for Hg2+ in pure water. The enhancement factor (EF) for the 989 cm–1 peak was found to be approximately 4.2 × 105, while that for the 722 cm–1 peak was 2.8 × 105. Such sensitivity arises due to the interfacial charge transfer (CT) and the weak electromagnetic interaction between the heterojunction and Hg2+ with the Raman reporter molecule 4-methylpyridine (4-MPy). The substrate exhibits remarkable selectivity against interfering ions (Ca2+, Mg2+, Pb2+, etc.,), along with high reproducibility (RSD < 9.33%), and stability up to one month under environmental conditions. The results indicate that the detection sensitivity is comparable to or even better than that achieved with the conventional SERS substrate to enable specific detection of Hg2+. Moreover, the substrate can be reused through photocatalytic degradation showing a 30 min duration for complete removal of Hg2+, enabled by the F4TCNQ/MoS2 heterostructure. This offers significant advantages for detecting Hg2+ in complex environmental samples, such as seawater and soil leachate, while also proving valuable for environmental monitoring and food safety applications.

Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), a most common neurodegenerative disease, has aroused people's great attention. Amyloid-β 1-42 (Aβ42) from serum/plasma has been listed as Core 1 biomarker in diagnostic guide and explore an ultrasensitive detection method of Aβ42 is of great significance for early AD diagnosis and treatment. Herein, an ultrasensitive fluorescent biosensor for Aβ42 detection is designed, which is composed of Fe 3 O 4 @MoS 2 microsphere and Au-Ag alloy. Compared with typical single gold nanoparticles in traditional fluorescent biosensor, alloy nanoparticles can generate a stronger electromagnetic field to enhance the fluorescence of quantum dots via surface plasmon resonance, achieve the effect of signal amplification. Importantly, our design significantly improved the limit of detection to 11 ag/mL, with a linear response ranging from 0.1 to 10 4 fg/mL. Moreover, by replacing the detection antibody in the biosensor, it can also be applied to other common AD biomarkers, such as Aβ40 (linear range: 0.1 to 10 5 fg/mL, LOD: 61 ag/mL) and total Tau protein (linear range: 0.1 to 10 5 fg/mL, LOD: 40 ag/mL). The biosensor exhibited excellent performance in both spiked and real serum samples. This fluorescent biosensor based on Au-Ag alloy strategy with ultra-sensitivity and good selectivity, provides a reliable solution for AD’s early diagnosis.

Two-dimensional MoS 2 -based advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have recently shown significant promise in wastewater treatment. However, the activation of different oxidants leads to distinct degradation mechanisms and transformation pathways for organic pollutants. In this study, we explored the distinct mechanisms of chemical exfoliation (ce-MoS 2 ) in activating peroxymonosulfate (PMS), peroxydisulfate (PDS), and H 2 O 2 for the degradation of roxarsone (ROX). The removal efficiency of ROX is in the order of ce-MoS 2 /PMS > ce-MoS 2 /PDS > ce-MoS 2 /H 2 O 2 , with the highest total organic carbon (TOC) removal rate achieved by ce-MoS 2 /PDS. The ce-MoS 2 /PMS system primarily generates radicals (·OH, SO 4 ·- ) and oxidizes ROX to As(V), while PDS is weakly adsorbed onto the surface vacancies (SVs) to form surface complexes (PDS*), facilitating ROX removal through an electron transfer pathway rather than radical-mediated reactions. H 2 O 2 is strongly adsorbed to SVs, directing the ce-MoS 2 /H 2 O 2 system to predominantly convert H 2 O 2 into H 2 O via a two-electron (2e - ) reduction pathway. The distinct activation pathways and types of reactive species led to differences in ROX removal efficiency, product transformation, and toxicity. This study clarifies the role of ce-MoS 2 in peroxide activation and offers guidance for the strategic design of MoS 2 -based composites tailored to specific oxidants, aiming to improve wastewater treatment efficiency.

Owing to the hypoxia status of the tumor, the reactive oxygen species (ROS) production during photodynamic therapy (PDT) of the tumor is less efficient. Herein, a facile method which involves the synthesis of Mg–Mn–Al layered double hydroxides (LDH) clay with MoS2 doping in the surface and anionic layer space of LDH was presented, to integrate the photo-thermal effect of MoS2 and imaging and catalytic functions of Mg–Mn–Al LDH. The designed LDH-MoS2 (LMM) clay composite was further surface-coated with bovine serum albumin (BSA) to maintain the colloidal stability of LMM in physiological environment. A photosensitizer, chlorin e6 (Ce6), was absorbed at the surface and anionic layer space of LMM@BSA. In the LMM formulation, the magnetic resonance imaging of Mg–Mn–Al LDH was enhanced thanks to the reduced and acid microenvironment of the tumor. Notably, the ROS production and PDT efficiency of Ce6 were significantly improved, because LMM@BSA could catalyze the decomposing of the overexpressed H2O2 in tumors to produce oxygen. The biocompatible LMM@BSA that played the synergism with tumor microenvironment is a promising candidate for the effective treatment of cancer.

Photocatalysis is one of the most promising technologies in wastewater treatment. However, the inactivity to visible light and the inconvenience to recycle severely limit its practical application. In this work, via a facile hydrothermal method, Fe3O4 NPs were integrated onto the surfaces of 3D ball-flower-like MoS2 microspheres as efficiently visible light responsive and magnetically recyclable photocatalysts. Experimental results indicate that, an optimal loading amount (20 wt %) of Fe3O4 NPs can not only effectively enhance the photocatalytic ability of the MoS2/Fe3O4 (MF) hybrid composite with approximately 2 times better than pure MoS2, but also make it conveniently recycle from water by an external magnetic field. The photoelectrochemical studies also reveal that the incorporation of Fe3O4 NPs can effectively enhance the charge transfer rate and accelerate separation of photoinduced charge carriers. The surface catalytic mechanism of MF hybrid composite was also explored through XPS spectra. With both the excellent photocatalytic performance and magnetical recyclability, the 20 wt %-MF hybrid composite is considered to be a promising and competitive photocatalyst for wastewater treatment utilizing solar energy.

Transition metal sulfides are favored as anode materials for the next generation of lithium-ion batteries because of their high theoretical capacities and abundant natural resources. However, serious volume changes during charging and discharging pose great challenges to their stability. In this work, petal-like MoS2/Co9S8/C nanohybrids were synthesized via the immobilization of molybdyl acetoacetonate MoO2(acac)2 in ZIF-67 and subsequent combined vulcanization and thermolysis process. Benefiting from the homogeneous bimetallic sulfide and highly conductive carbon layer, the as-obtained MoS2/Co9S8/C nanohybrids exhibited a high initial discharge capacity of 988.3 mAh g−1 at 200 mA g−1 and a capacity retention > 99.9% after 50 cycles. Even at a high current density of 1000 mA g−1, the reversible capacity of MoS2/Co9S8/C is still as high as 754.6 mAh g−1, revealing extraordinary rate ability. This work can provide a general approach to design and synthesize other advanced bimetallic chalcogenides for boosting lithium-ion batteries storage performance.

In this paper, polycrystalline molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) nanoflowers were prepared by mixing ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate [(NH 4 ) 6 Mo 7 O 24 ·4H 2 O] and potassium thiocyanate (KSCN) at 300 °C for 2 h via molten salt sintering method. Under scanning electron microscope (SEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), MoS 2 showed popcorn-like shape, which surface distribution defects were easy to be further modified. MoS 2 as a nano-enzyme was used to inhibit the proliferation of mouse breast cancer cells (4 T1), which had 69.8 % inhibitory effect on 4 T1 cell proliferation. Electron spin resonance (ESR) analysis showed that MoS 2 could produce a large number of stable hydroxyl radicals (–OH). The disulfide bond in MoS 2 was highly sensitive to reactive oxygen species (ROS). High ROS level leads to the death of cancer cells under oxidative stress and inhibits the proliferation of 4 T1. This work demonstrates that MoS 2 is a potential anticancer drug or carrier for cancer treatment.

In order to optimize the conductivity of molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 ) and promote its large-scale application as a catalyst for hydrogen evolution , MoS 2 is usually used to form composites with conductive materials , but these hybrid materials suffer from scare active sites, overlapping and complicate process. In this work, phosphoric acid is used as a builder of stereoscopic structures, which can not only twist graphene sheets into a P-doped three-dimensional (3D) graphene network but also promote surface electron transport between graphene sheets. Without adding additional framework materials such as carbon nanotubes or nickel foam, stereoscopic MoS 2 /graphene structures are formed with a large number of twisted graphene sheets to support the vertical growth of MoS 2 and expose the edge sites of MoS 2 , showing a low Tafel slope about 35 mV dec −1 , a high current density of 900 mA cm −2 at about 300 mV and a robust stability over 2000 cycles. Thus, this work shows a possibility to synthesize an efficient catalyst on a large-scale for hydrogen evolution reaction, which can promote the realization of hydrogen economy .

Elemental-doped is considered as an effective strategy to modulate the electronic structure of Metallic MoS 2 (i.e., 1T-MoS 2 ) and enhance its electrochemical performance. Herein, DFT is applied to predict the electronic structure of different transition metals (TMs) doped 1T-MoS 2 . Based on the results, stable Ni-doped 1T-MoS 2 (N 3 MS) is synthesized in a propionic acid (PA) aided system. Electrochemical tests show that N 3 MS possesses an excellent specific capacitance of 2461.2 F·g −1 at 1 A·g −1 and a cycle retention rate of 85.67 % at 10 A·g −1 for 1000 cycles due to the critical contribution of Ni-doped to electronic structure modulation. Meanwhile, in-situ Raman measurements show that the active sites of N 3 MS are Mo 3+ and Ni 2+ . The assembled N 3 MS//ZnO/ZnS-C hybrid device shows a specific capacitance of 242.28 F·g −1 at 1 A·g −1 , an excellent energy density of 65.96 Wh·kg −1 at the power density of 700 W·kg −1 and the excellent stability for up to 2000 cycles (77.26 % retention at 5 A·g −1 ). This work proves the significant contribution of elemental doping to modulate electronic structures and improve electrochemical performance.
