This study aims to develop PVDF composite membranes with excellent comprehensive performance by hydrophilic modification of PVDF membranes. Specifically, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used as a porogen and dispersing agent, while β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and chitosan (CS) served as hydrophilic modification agents. A novel β-CD/CS/PVDF composite membrane was prepared using a blending phase transformation method. This membrane exhibits excellent hydrophilicity, underwater superoleophobicity, mechanical strength, self-cleaning ability, antibacterial performance, high separation performance, and biocompatibility. The experimental results indicate that the modified membrane with the optimal ratio (MF-β/C-2/3) achieved a pure water flux of 721.79 L·m −2 ·h −1 ·bar −1 , an underwater oil contact angle exceeding 140°. The membrane exhibited exceptional retention and separation capabilities for various concentrations of MB, MG, RB, MO, Pb 2+ , and Cr 6+ . It achieved a separation efficiency exceeding 99% for both oil-water mixtures and oil-water emulsions, and also demonstrated excellent separation performance when treating simulated wastewater containing multiple pollutants. In addition, ten cycles of separation experiments were conducted for organic dyes, heavy metal ions, oil-water mixtures, oil-water emulsions and simulated wastewater respectively. The results showed that after ten cycles of reuse, the modified membrane retained good separation efficiency and water flux, demonstrating exceptional separation stability. Research has shown that PVDF composite membranes have a promising prospect in the treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater. They can simplify the process flow, reduce costs, efficiently intercept pollutants, increase operational stability, and improve treatment efficiency. They have important practical significance in promoting the resource utilization of printing and dyeing wastewater.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) has attracted significant attention for its unique piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties. However, traditional processing primarily results in the non-polar α phase, limiting its applications. This study prepared PVDF films via solution casting followed by rolling at various temperatures to promote the transition to the β phase. High-temperature rolling significantly enhanced the β phase content, improved the microstructure and orientation of the films, and markedly enhanced the piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties. Particularly, the films rolled at 90 °C exhibited a higher relative content of the β phase, showing exceptional piezoelectric performance with a d 33 value of 26 pC/N and ferroelectric properties with a remanent polarization (P r ) of 13.69 μC/cm 2 . Additionally, hot rolling at higher temperatures notably improved the mechanical properties, enhancing both tensile strength and elongation at break. The optimized PVDF films present broad application prospects in areas such as sensors. This study provides a method and theoretical guidance for the preparation of high-performance PVDF-based functional materials.

Aluminised thermites show strong potential for energy-intensive applications, but ensuring stable nanoscale dispersion and optimising combustion performance is challenging. This study prepared Al–MO/PVDF thermites (MO = ZnO, ZnFe₂O₄) by electrospraying and mechanical mixing to compare how particle morphology and compositional uniformity affect reactivity. Electrosprayed samples formed near-spherical, submicron particles with homogeneous distributions of reactants, whereas mechanically mixed samples aggregated into larger, irregular clusters. Differential scanning calorimetry revealed sharper, staged exothermic peaks in the electrosprayed thermites, indicating enhanced reactant contact, while the mechanically mixed thermites produced broad, overlapping exotherms. X-ray diffraction showed partial amorphisation and core-shell formation under rapid solvent evaporation. Laser ignition tests demonstrated faster ignition, higher flame temperatures, and more intense combustion in electrosprayed formulations, particularly Al–ZnFe₂O₄/PVDF, which exhibited a secondary heat release (micro-explosion). Electrospray-assisted fabrication improved homogeneity and promoted rapid, high-temperature reactions for enhanced combustion performance.

As an ideal flexible polymer piezoelectric material, PVDF material has a broad application prospect in pressure sensing, health monitoring, and so forth. However, traditional PVDF-based sensors usually suffer from problems such as low open-circuit voltage and slow deformation recovery. In this paper, inspired by the beaded structure of soybean rhizobial fungus, we used the strategy of combining electrostatic spinning and hot-pressing technology to construct a BTO/PVDF piezoelectric film. Specifically, PVDF is used as the substrate and doped with BTO particles to prepare a beaded internal structure. Then, hot pressing was performed to enhance the β-crystalline phase ratio of PVDF to increase the piezoelectric performance of the device. The sensors prepared by this method possess a high sensitivity of 25.23 mV/kPa in the 0–5 kPa range. The fast response time is 86 ms, and the recovery time is 57 ms, maintaining high cycling stability above 92% under loading and unloading for more than 10,000 cycles. Finite element numerical simulation analysis confirms that the BTO/PVDF piezoelectric thin films prepared by this process have excellent sensing performance. Integrating the device with a data acquisition and processing module can easily detect various life activities of the human body, which has great potential in flexible electronic skin, motion acquisition, and so on.

Serious structural irreversibility and interfacial side reactions pose major challenges for the stable operation of LiCoO 2 cathodes at high voltages. Herein, we report a polymer-based solid electrolyte (SLP) composed succinonitrile, LiTFSI and PVDF as a binder to address these issues. The SLP binder exhibits superior performance compared to traditional PVDF and PVDF binders with LiTFSI, with higher ionic conductivity (8.46 × 10 − 5 S cm − 1 at 30 ℃), lower activation energy of 0.38 eV and excellent adhesion. Even with just 3% SLP binder, LiCoO 2 cathode operating at a cutoff voltage of 4.6 V and loaded with ~ 6.0 mg cm − 2 active material demonstrates improved rate capability at higher compaction densities, delivering a discharge specific capacity of 146.5 mAh g − 1 after 100 cycles at 0.5 C-rate. The SLP binder not only enhances Li + conduction but also facilitates the formation of a stable cathode-electrolyte interphase, thus reducing the Li + diffusion barrier and interface polarization, and enhancing battery’s performance at low temperature. Furthermore, the SPL binder’s high compatibility and elasticity with the electrolyte mitigate irreversible structural changes and volume expansion in LiCoO 2 during cycling, leading to better preservation of the layered structure and lower internal stress for stable cycling under high temperatures. This strategy provides a novel interface protection idea for electroceramic cathode materials and may facilitate commercial development.

The membrane contactor has been considered an effective device to capture CO 2 , but its performance is limited by membrane wetting phenomena. In this work, the ZIF-8/ZIF-L (zeolitic imidazolate framework) based composite membrane with excellent hydrophobic stability and CO 2 permeability was successfully fabricated by coating the dense layer on the porous PVDF (polyvinylidene fluoride) substrate. The dense layer was developed by evenly incorporating ZIF-8 nanocrystals and ZIF-L nanosheets into the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) polymer. The as-prepared membrane possessed competitive hydrophobicity with a water contact angle (WCA) of 131.8°. And after a ten-day immersion test in CO 2 absorbent, the WCA only declined by 9.8%, exhibiting excellent hydrophobic stability. Besides, the CO 2 permeability of the composite membrane was 61.8×10 −8 ·mol·m −2 ·s −1 ·Pa −1 with an ideal CO 2 /N 2 separation factor of ∺20, which was effectively improved in comparison with the control membrane. In the CO 2 absorption experiment, the prepared membrane achieved the competitive CO 2 flux of 3.02×10 −3 ·mol·m −2 ·s −1 when the liquid velocity was 0.25 m·s −1 and displayed robust long-term operating stability. Finally, the AC impedance technique was applied to continuously monitor the wetting state of composite membranes, which further investigated their anti-wetting ability.

Traditional rigid sensors often lack sufficient flexibility, while pure poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) piezoelectric materials suffer from limited β-phase content and suboptimal mechanical properties. To address these challenges, we synthesized WO₃@UiO-66-NH₂ heterojunction materials via a hydrothermal method and integrated them with electrospinning technology to fabricate flexible TPU/PVDF composite piezoelectric sensor films. Characterization and performance evaluation identified an optimal PVDF-to-TPU mass ratio of 8:2. Moreover, incorporation of 0.5 wt% WO₃@UiO-66-NH₂ yielded the highest β-phase content in PVDF, along with enhanced dielectric properties, energy storage density, and piezoelectric output. The resulting flexible piezoelectric sensor demonstrates a sensitivity of 1.87 V/N, with response and recovery times of 40 ms and 140 ms, respectively. It reliably monitors diverse human activities and physiological signals, including wrist and knee joint flexion, vocalization, swallowing, respiration, and grasping. Combining excellent flexibility, high sensitivity, and rapid response, this sensor shows considerable promise for applications in human health monitoring and motion detection.

The inherent hydrophobicity of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) separation membranes severely limits their flux and anti-fouling performance, and traditional membrane materials struggle to simultaneously achieve efficient separation and degradation of pollutants. This study innovatively proposes a synergistic modification strategy combining Chlorinated 1-butyl-3-vinylimidazole (IL) grafting with amino-functionalized zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (NH 2 -ZIF-8) doping. This approach constructs a multifunctional composite membrane integrating efficient separation, adsorption, and piezo-photocatalytic degradation. The prepared PVDF-g-IL/NH 2 -ZIF-8 membrane demonstrates outstanding overall performance. Under combined ultrasound and ultraviolet excitation, it achieves a methylene blue degradation efficiency of 80.5 %, showcasing its capability for in-situ pollutant degradation during the separation process. Furthermore, the membrane exhibits a pure water flux as high as 685.6 L m −2 h −1 , which is approximately seven times that of the pristine PVDF membrane. It also maintains dye rejection rates exceeding 93 % for various dyes, and possesses a high adsorption capacity (>7.0 mg/g) along with excellent cycling stability due to the flux recovery rate above 80 %. This study provides new insights for developing water treatment membranes combined efficient separation with in situ degradation functionality.

Rapid, room-temperature, and scalable fabrication of the membrane is achieved. • The membrane exhibits excellent crude-oil antifouling ability and underwater superoleophobicity. • The membrane shows high permeation flux and excellent separation efficiency for various oil-in-water emulsions, including crude oil emulsion. • The emulsion permeation flux of the membrane almost maintains zero attenuation during long-term operation for n-hexane emulsion (3 h) and even crude oil emulsion (1 h). • The membrane remains stable after prolonged immersion in acidic, alkaline, and saline solutions. Despite the critical importance of efficient oily wastewater separation, practical implementation remains severely constrained by severe fouling, low membrane flux, and challenges in scalable production. Consequently, the rapid and scalable fabrication of superhydrophilic membranes with superior antifouling performance has become an urgent priority for treating large quantities of oily wastewater. Herein, we employed a polyphenol-metal dual autocatalytic system to rapidly and efficiently fabricate a high-throughput, anti-fouling, and scalable PDMAPAA gel @TA-APTES@PVDF hydrogel composite membrane under mild conditions. Endowed with the TA-APTES micro-nano structure and the PDMAPAA hydrogel layer, the membrane achieves high water flux (over 40000 L∙m −2 ∙h −1 ∙bar −1 ), excellent emulsion flux (over 5500 L∙m −2 ∙h −1 ∙bar −1 ) and exceptional oil-water separation efficiency (over 99.50%). The emulsion flux shows almost maintains zero attenuation during long-term operation for the n-hexane emulsion (3 h) and even the crude oil emulsion (1 h). The membrane also has excellent underwater anti-adhesion properties for crude oil. Crude oil adhered to the membrane surface can be readily removed by simple water immersion. What’s more, the membrane exhibits exceptional chemical stability, conferring robust resistance to acidic, alkaline, and saline environments. Introduction Bone tissue defects frequently occur following trauma, bone tumor resection, and orthopedic surgery. The complex local microenvironment serves as a critical factor impeding bone tissue repair. Cell-based scaffolds typically exhibit stable physicochemical properties, provide a favorable growth microenvironment. Hydrogels and electret membranes have been widely applied in bone tissue engineering. Methods In this study, we fabricated polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) electret membranes and sodium alginate/sodium hyaluronate (SA/HA) double-network hydrogels separately, and systematically characterized their physicochemical and biological properties. Results Following verification of their favorable biocompatibility, we found that the combined application of SA/HA@PVDF composites significantly enhances calcium nodule formation in human dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) in vitro. In addition, the expression levels of osteogenic marker proteins were elevated in the SA/HA@PVDF group and were significantly higher than those in the single-agent application groups, indicating that SA/HA@PVDF exhibits a stronger capacity to promote the osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs in vitro. Subsequently, rat mandibular defect models were established, and PVDF electret membranes, SA/HA hydrogels, and SA/HA@PVDF composites were transplanted into the defect sites. The results of micro-computed tomography, hematoxylin-eosin staining, Masson staining, and immunohistochemical staining demonstrated that the composite scaffold significantly accelerated the repair of mandibular bone defects. Conclusions Our findings may provide novel insights into the combined application of electret membranes and hydrogels in bone regeneration.

Oxide electrolyte Li 1.5 Al 0.5 Ge 1.5 (PO4) 3 (LAGP) has attracted much attention due to their potential and are considered ideal electrolytes for next-generation high-energy-density solid-state lithium metal batteries. However, their application is still limited by problems such as poor solid-solid interface contact, high interface resistance, lithium dendrite growth, and embrittlement during operation. To address these issues, our work propose a synergistic strategy to prepare a novel flexible quasi-solid-state ceramic-polymer electrolyte. This electrolyte is composed of [N1,4,4,4]TFSI ionic liquid (IL), polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF), LiTFSI salt, and LAGP, which significantly improves the ionic conductivity and cycle stability of the ceramic-polymer electrolyte battery. The prepared LAGP/PVDF composite electrolyte exhibits an ionic conductivity as high as 1.16 × 10 −3 S cm −1 . LAGP nanoparticles have the dual function than not only can reduce the crystallinity of the polymer matrix; but also act as lithium-ion conductors to enhance lithium-ion transport capabilities. Furthermore, the Li/LiFeO 4 battery based on this ceramic-polymer electrolyte exhibits excellent interfacial compatibility and dendrite-free characteristics, with significantly enhanced cycle stability, capable of stable operation exceeding 300 cycles. This work demonstrates the feasibility of the PVDF/LAGP ceramic-polymer electrolyte and its industrial application prospects in solid-state lithium metal batteries.

Energy harvesting technologies are gaining attention because of their potential to generate power from ambient sources like light and mechanical motion. The development of advanced electrospun polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) flexible films with dual functionality (photothermal-piezoelectric effect) has become a prominent area of research, focusing on optimizing their hydrophilicity. Herein, electrospun MnO 2 nanosheets/PVDF flexible films are sequentially fabricated to transform the dielectric and ferroelectric properties, which result in an open-circuit voltage of 20 V and a short-circuit current of 0.10 μA under repeated mechanical force of 10 N at 2 Hz. Wearable films demonstrated the ability to harvest the biomechanical energy of human movements, such as finger and joint tapping, as well as wearable shoe soles that harvest energy from walking and running. More importantly, the impregnation of polypyrrole over MnO 2 /PVDF films (MnPVDF@PPy) and post-hydrophilic modification achieved an enhanced evaporation rate of 1.85 kg m −2 h −1 and waste heat recovery into open-circuit voltage of 135 mV and a short-circuit current of 33 mA under one sun irradiation. The unique interplay between photo-piezo-electro mechanisms ensures efficient energy flow, robustness, and adaptability in dynamic environments by addressing critical challenges such as water scarcity and intelligent sensing with a single, multifunctional platform.
