La2O2CO3:Tb3+ one-dimensional nanorod with green persistent luminescence

Xiaojing Dou,Yang Li,Ru Kang,Huiwang Lian,Zhenzhang Li

Trivalent terbium-doped oxycarbonate (La2O2CO3:1%Tb3+) one-dimensional nanorods are synthesized via a facile precipitation method. The average length of La2O2CO3:1%Tb3+ nanorods is 184.5 nm. Doping Tb3+ ions led to several visible emission peaks at 486 nm, 542 nm, and 587 nm under excitation of 258 nm wavelength light. The green afterglow at 542 nm can be detected almost 600 s after ceasing the UV-light irradiation. It can be calculated that the La2O2CO3:1%Tb3+ sample has one shallow trap depth (E = 0.848 eV) by measuring the thermoluminescence. All the results indicate that a simple precipitation method can synthesize a one-dimensional nanorod with green persistent luminescence.

Dry reforming of methane over La2O2CO3-modified Ni/Al2O3 catalysts with moderate metal support interaction

Kang Li,Chunlei Pei,Xinyu Li,Sai Chen,Xianhua Zhang,Rui Liu,Jinlong Gong

The modulation of the interaction between the active metal and the underlying support material plays a key role and remains a challenge in many important catalytic reactions. This paper describes a new method for the modification of Ni/Al 2 O 3 by La 2 O 2 CO 3 , which is responsible for modulating the interaction between Ni and the Al 2 O 3 support. When La 2 O 2 CO 3 is loaded on the Al 2 O 3 support as a La 2 O 3 precursor, combined with XRD, H 2 -TPR, H 2 -pluse chemisorption, Raman spectroscopy and TEM characterization, it is found that La 2 O 2 CO 3 can prevent Ni from entering the alumina support and forming NiAl 2 O 4 . This strategy allows more Ni to be reduced and exposed as active sites. Consequently, the La 2 O 2 CO 3 modified Ni/Al 2 O 3 exhibited superior activity with respect to the reference La 2 O 3 modified Ni/Al 2 O 3 and original Ni/Al 2 O 3 in dry reforming of methane (DRM). At the same time, La can cover the acidic sites of alumina and increase the alkalinity of the catalyst, thereby promoting carbon dioxide adsorption and activation, and inhibiting carbon deposition. In addition, the introduction of La also inhibits the sintering of Ni under harsh reaction conditions by enhancing the interaction between Ni metal and the support. This modification method can simultaneously improve the reactivity and stability of the catalyst by altering the interaction between the metal and the support.

Facile synthesis of La2O2CO3 nanoparticle films and Its CO2 sensing properties and mechanisms

Degong Ding,Wenbo Lu,Ya Xiong,Xinglong Pan,Jianqiang Zhang,Cuicui Ling,Yonggang Du,Qingzhong Xue

In this paper, we presented a simple method to fabricate size-controlled La 2 O 2 CO 3 nanoparticle by annealing La(OH) 3 nanocrystallines in air atmosphere. The microstructures of the samples were analyzed by high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). TEM images indicate that the La(OH) 3 precursors consists of uniform ellipsoids with width of 9–15   nm and length of 15–30   nm and La 2 O 2 CO 3 are spheroidal particles with size of 12–25   nm. XRD patterns indicate that La(OH) 3 nanocrystallines are hexagonal phase and transform to monoclinic La 2 O 2 CO 3 after annealing. And then, La 2 O 2 CO 3 nanoparticle is printed on an interdigital electrode as a sensing material for CO 2 detection. La 2 O 2 CO 3 sensor exhibits good cycle stability performance and fast response and recovery (53   s and 120   s) over the wide range of 300–5000   ppm CO 2 in air condition. In addition, we also investigate the effect of oxygen concentration in the background atmosphere on CO 2 response of La 2 O 2 CO 3 sensor. The CO 2 sensing mechanisms for La 2 O 2 CO 3 sensor can be attributed to the interaction of CO 2 with oxygen species on La 2 O 2 CO 3 surface including chemisorption, surface reaction and desorption process, which also can be used to explain other metal oxide based CO 2 gas sensor.

Bifunctional Co3O4-La2O2CO3@C derived from MOFs for peroxymonosulfate activation to degrade roxarsone and simultaneous removal of released inorganic arsenic from water

Yuxin Li,Li Liu,Wei Li,Yeqing Lan,Cheng Chen

In this study, a novel Co 3 O 4 -La 2 O 2 CO 3 @C composite was fabricated via the calcination of Co-La bimetallic MOFs at 500 °C, and was employed to efficiently activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for simultaneous oxidation of roxarsone (ROX) and adsorption of concomitant inorganic arsenic. Approximately 100% of ROX (50 μmol L −1 ) was degraded by PMS (0.5 mmol L −1 ) activated with Co 3 O 4 -La 2 O 2 CO 3 @C (0.2 g L −1 ) at initial pH 6 within 10 min. Meanwhile, the produced inorganic arsenic was almost completely adsorbed within 90 min. The maximum adsorption capacity of As(V) by Co 3 O 4 -La 2 O 2 CO 3 @C was determined to be high up to 275.4 mg g −1 . Co 3 O 4 -La 2 O 2 CO 3 @C also exhibited superior stability. During 6 rounds, the degradation efficiency of ROX and the removal efficiency of the total As maintained almost 100% and more than 97%, respectively. SO 4 − and OH were confirmed to be the reactive oxygen species (ROS) in charge of the degradation of ROX and the conversion of As(III) to As(V). The investigation of the adsorption mechanism revealed that the As species were combined with La species via ligand and anion exchange, resulting in the formation of La-O-As bond. Furthermore, the practical application potential of Co 3 O 4 -La 2 O 2 CO 3 @C in the ROX degradation and the in-situ adsorption of the released arsenic were further evaluated in a continuous flow column reactor. The Co 3 O 4 -La 2 O 2 CO 3 @C composite as catalyst and adsorbent may offer a feasible strategy for the implementation of organoarsenic degradation and produced inorganic arsenic adsorption.

Porous La2O2CO3 derived from solvent-guided metal-organic frameworks for high-efficient phosphorus removal

Yungui Li,Chenge Liang,Yi Shen,Wenhai Huang,Qingqing Li,Jining Liu,Jing Zhang,Peng Deng,Safdar Bashir,Qile Fang

La-based materials have garnered considerable attention as potential adsorbents for phosphate removal because they capture phosphate with high affinity, producing an ultralow phosphorous-concentration output. Herein, La-based metal–organic frameworks (La–MOFs, La-1,3,5-benzentricarboxylate) with tunable structures were fabricated by regulating the coordination solvent environment, which largely determines both the pore structure and chemical components of their corresponding La 2 O 2 CO 3 derivatives and the phosphate adsorption performance. A porous La 2 O 2 CO 3 derivative (W–D T500) derived from the water/N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) guided La–MOF showed abundant mesopores and a high surface area, because the pore-opening degree under high-temperature pyrolysis is higher in W–D T500 than in the La 2 O 2 CO 3 derivative obtained from the water/ethanol solvent–guided La–MOF. W–D T500 also had higher La (78.3%) and carbonate contents of the crystal structure owing to the higher efficiency of carbon conversion to carbonate-oxides in W–D T500. Consequently, the porous La 2 O 2 CO 3 derivative W–D T500 exhibited superior phosphate adsorption capacity (91.6 mg P/g), high adsorption selectivity, and excellent recycling performance. Phosphate was attached to the La 2 O 2 CO 3 adsorbents via a ligand-exchange mechanism between phosphate and CO 3 2− /–OH. This study provides a solvent guidance strategy to construct functional La–MOFs and La 2 O 2 CO 3 derivatives for excellent phosphate removal.

Morphology Effect of La2O2CO3 on CO2 Methanation over Ni-Based Catalysts

Zhong Changyin,Yang Yifei,Chen Jun,Feng Bomin,Wang Hongbing,Yao Yunxi

CO 2 methanation is regarded as an efficient method for upgrading CO 2 to fuels and reducing environmental impacts of greenhouse gas emission. In this study, we developed Ni/ La 2 O 2 CO 3 low temperature CO 2 methanation catalysts by tuning the metal-support interaction via changing the morphology of catalyst supports. La 2 O 2 CO 3 supports with various morphologies including nanotriangles (La 2 O 2 CO 3 -T), nanorods (La 2 O 2 CO 3 -R), and nanoparticles (La 2 O 2 CO 3 -P), were synthesized as the supports of Ni catalysts for CO 2 methanation reaction. The CO 2 methanation performance of the synthesized Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 catalysts was found to be markedly superior to that of conventional Ni/SiO 2 catalysts with the following orders: Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 -T > Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 -R > Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 -P > Ni/SiO 2 . In the comparative characterization of Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 catalysts with various morphologies, TEM and H 2 -TPR results reveal that the Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 -T catalysts exhibit better dispersion of Ni nanoparticles and higher reducibility. Moreover, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), O 2 and H 2 temperature programmed desorption (O 2 -TPD, H 2 -TPD) results indicate that the Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 -T catalysts possess a lower oxygen vacancy formation energy leading to a higher concentration of interfacial oxygen vacancies, which enhances the adsorption hydrogen at these interfacial oxygen vacancy sites. CO 2 -TPD results further reveal that Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 -T catalysts own higher concentration of medium basic sites, which promote the adsorption and activation of CO 2 . Consequently, Ni/La 2 O 2 CO 3 -T catalysts demonstrate superior low-temperature CO 2 methanation activity by hydrogenation of CO 2 adsorbed as surface carbonates on the La 2 O 2 CO 3 surfaces with hydrogen spilled over from the Ni surfaces via the interfacial oxygen vacancies to the catalyst support. Dry reforming of methane over Ni/La2O3 nanorod catalysts with stabilized Ni nanoparticles

Xinyu Li,Di Li,Hao Tian,Liang Zeng,Zhi-Jian Zhao,Jinlong Gong

This paper describes the design of a Ni/La 2 O 3 catalyst using La 2 O 2 CO 3 nanorod as a support precursor (denoted as Ni/La 2 O 3 -LOC) via a wet impregnation method for dry reforming of methane (DRM). The results showed that La 2 O 3 derived from the La 2 O 2 CO 3 precursor maintained its initial morphology upon thermal treatment and could highly disperse Ni particles on it. Additionally, the nanorod-shaped support could provide more medium-strength basic sites to facilitate CO 2 adsorption and activation on its surface. Consequently, the Ni/La 2 O 3 -LOC catalyst reached 70% of CH 4 conversion and 75% of CO 2 conversion at 700   °C after 50   h DRM reaction with a H 2 /CO ratio of 0.87. The enhanced metal-support interaction restricted the sintering of nickel particles under harsh reaction conditions. Coke evolution on the catalysts was also investigated to understand coke formation mechanism and the role of La 2 O 2 CO 3 in coke elimination. It has been found that nickel dispersion can affect distribution of coke and La 2 O 2 CO 3 on the surface of catalyst, both of which have a close relation with catalytic performance.

Crystallinity engineering of support improves RWGS reaction performance over Cu/La2O2CO3 catalyst

Zhi-Xin Li,Hui-Jie Cheng,Yi-Han Zhang,Cong-Jian Pan,Wei-Wei Yan,Wen-Long Mo,Xiao-Qin Yang,Cai-Xia Ju,Xiao-Yu Zhang,Zhi-Hao Ma,Xian-Yong Wei,Sheng Li

Crystallinity engineering of oxide supports has emerged as a powerful strategy to enhance the performance of supported catalysts, yet its application in complex oxides like lanthanum oxycarbonate (La 2 O 2 CO 3 ) remains underexplored. Here, we demonstrated that precise control of La 2 O 2 CO 3 crystallinity via calcination temperature tuning significantly improved the reverse water-gas shift (RWGS) reaction performance of Cu-based catalysts. CuLa500 catalyst, prepared at 500 °C, exhibited superior activity and stability compared to its high-crystallinity counterpart (CuLa800, 800 °C), achieving a CO 2 conversion of 54.4% and near-unity CO selectivity (>99.9%) at 600 °C under high space velocity conditions. Systematic characterization revealed that reduced crystallinity strengthens Cu-support interactions, optimizing CO 2 adsorption while enhancing structural robustness. This work not only establishes a scalable method for RWGS catalyst optimization but also provides mechanistic insights into the role of crystallinity in complex oxide-supported systems, offering a blueprint for advancing multiphase catalysis in energy-related reactions.

Enhancing the stability of Cu-based catalysts via La2O2CO3 crystallinity engineering in RWGS reaction

Peng Zhang,Guang-Hui Liu,Yao-Shun Wen,Yu-Hong Kang,Yang-Fan Yin,Sheng Li,Zhi-Hao Ma,Zhi-Xin Li

Crystallinity engineering of La 2 O 2 CO 3 boosts RWGS reaction performance. • Cu/La-24 achieves 58.3% CO 2 conversion with 99.9% CO selectivity at 600 °C. • Higher crystallinity strengthens Cu-support interaction and inhibits catalyst sintering. Reverse water-gas shift (RWGS) reaction offers a promising route for CO production and CO 2 utilization, but its industrialization has been hindered due to the lack of efficient catalysts. Among non-precious alternatives, Cu-based catalysts show high CO selectivity but suffer from poor thermal stability and rapid deactivation. Here, La 2 O 2 CO 3 support crystallinity engineering was adopted to enhance the performance over Cu-based catalysts. Cu/La-24 (high support crystallinity) and Cu/La-6 (low support crystallinity) catalysts were synthesized and evaluated. Compared with Cu/La-6 catalyst, Cu/La-24 catalyst exhibited a better CO 2 conversion (58.3% at 600 °C), while improving the reaction rate and catalytic stability. Characterization results revealed that higher crystallinity strengthened metal-support interaction, enhanced CO 2 adsorption capacity and inhibited catalysts sintering, collectively boosting catalytic performance. This work demonstrates that crystallinity regulation is an effective strategy for designing stable and active Cu-based catalysts, paving the way for designing more efficient catalysts for RWGS reaction. Tuning Pt-Co electronic interaction in PtCo/La2O2CO3 toward enhanced selective hydrogenation of cinnamaldehyde

Zhiying Qiu,Yu Fang,Ting Xiong,Luna Ruan,Yixuan Wang,Cheng Chen,Junyuan Xu,Chao Liu,Zhiqing Yang,Hengqiang Ye,Lihua Zhu

The selective hydrogenation of α, β-unsaturated aldehydes to unsaturated alcohols is of great industrial significance, yet the development of highly active and stable catalysts remains a substantial challenge. This study employs hydrothermal and sodium borohydride reduction methods to synthesize high-performance PtCo/La 2 O 2 CO 3 catalysts for cinnamaldehyde selective hydrogenation. The electronic interaction between Pt and Co (electrons transferring from Pt to Co) can be precisely tailored by adjusting Pt and Co contents, which effectively modulates activation behavior of H 2 on the catalyst surface. This electronic modulation leads to distinguished catalytic activity, with PtCo/La 2 O 2 CO 3 -3 (Pt-1.75 wt%, Co-0.45 wt%) exhibiting the weakest Pt-Co interaction and thus achieving the excellent catalytic performance (cinnamaldehyde conversion-97.7%, cinnamyl alcohol selectivity-90.7%) under mild conditions (60 °C, 1.5 h, 2.0 MPa H 2 ). This study elucidates the synergistic mechanisms in PtCo bimetallic catalysts and establishes a versatile strategy for designing efficient multifunctional catalytic systems through the integration of bimetallic synergy.

CeO2/La2O2CO3 heterostructures as high-performance adsorbents: Interfacial synergy and regeneration for fluoride removal

Xin Xiao,Huimin Zhang,Zhiling Qiu,Zhangjian Qian,Haochen Ding,Litong Zhang,Xiangmei Wang

Excessive fluoride ions in aquatic environments pose serious threats to ecosystems and human health, highlighting the urgent need for efficient adsorption materials. In this study, a 0.2CeO 2 /La 2 O 2 CO 3 composite was synthesized via a hydrothermal‑calcination method for deep fluoride removal, achieving a maximum adsorption capacity of 56.18 mg/g, which surpasses those of its individual constituents. Comprehensive characterization and theoretical calculations reveal that the adsorption mechanism is attributed to the combined action of ion exchange forming CeF 3 /LaF 3 accompanied by Ce 4 ⁺ reduction, electron‑relay synergy of dual‑metal sites (Ce 3 ⁺/La 3 ⁺) at the heterointerface, as well as electrostatic attraction and surface complexation. This multi‑pathway synergy not only enhances the adsorption capacity but also ensures high selectivity and good regenerability. This study provides a theoretical basis and a practical strategy for the design of highly selective fluoride removal materials. High La site accessibility in La2O2CO3/C aerogel for advanced low-concentration phosphate removal

Xiaojun Ma,Yan Kong,Sinan Wang,Haitao Feng,Lihao Cheng,Yongjuan Chen,Liang Jiang,Jiao He,Jiaqiang Wang

La-based materials are critical for mitigating eutrophication in low-phosphate aquatic environments. However, their practical application is often limited by the trade-off between high La loading and low utilization efficiency. In this study, starch is innovatively employed to immobilize La 3+ , enabling the in-situ formation of La 2 O 2 CO 3 through CO 2 gas generated during one-step pyrolysis, simultaneously, the gas expansion effect is harnessed to create a hierarchically porous architecture. The resulting La 2 O 2 CO 3 /C composite exhibits remarkable adsorption performance, achieving a phosphate uptake capacity of 306.6 mg P/g La and a P/La molar ratio of 1.37. Mechanistic studies indicate that the adsorption is predominantly driven by electrostatic interactions and ligand exchange. Theoretical calculations further reveal that the interfacial electron transfer between La 2 O 2 CO 3 and the carbon matrix enhances La adsorption activity through synergistic effects. This high site accessibility facilitates rapid phosphate diffusion and binding, thereby significantly improving La utilization efficiency. To enable practical application, the powdered adsorbent is immobilized within a chitosan/polyvinyl alcohol double-network aerogel, preserving its high performance while ensuring structural stability and recyclability. This material demonstrates robust performance in removing low-concentration phosphate, when treating real lake water, it achieves 96.8 % removal within 30 min, and in continuous-flow experiments, the cumulative treated water volume reaches 12.84 L. Furthermore, the material exhibits outstanding safety, high selectivity, and reliable reusability. This study advances the understanding of structure–performance relationships in La-based adsorbents and presents a novel design strategy for optimizing rare earth resource utilization in remediating low-concentration phosphate pollution.
