When associated with NACA, prevents inappropriate targeting of non-secretory polypeptides to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). Binds to nascent polypeptide chains as they emerge from the ribosome and blocks their interaction with the signal recognition particle (SRP), which normally targets nascent secretory peptides to the ER. BTF3 is also a general transcription factor that can form a stable complex with RNA polymerase II. Required for the initiation of transcription.
Post-translational: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.
Recombinant Human BTF3 Protein (rp189279) - SDS-PAGE 3 μg/lane of Recombinant Human BTF3 Protein was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) and non-reducing (N) conditions and visualized by Coomassie® Blue staining, showing a band at 26.5 kDa under reducing conditions and 26.5 & 54.1 kDa under non-reducing conditions. BTF is formed through dimer addition and the stacking of the tail domain of each monomer. The diameter of the Dictyostelium myosin BTFs increases but their length does not change as the BTFs grow, which is different from the muscle myosin BTF assembly mechanism (PMID: 22339860).
