This is a copper-containing oxidase that functions in the formation of pigments such as melanins and other polyphenolic compounds. Catalyzes the rate-limiting conversions of tyrosine to DOPA, DOPA to DOPA-quinone and possibly 5,6-dihydroxyindole to indole-5,6 quinone.
Post-translational: Glycosylated.
Recombinant Human Tyrosinase Protein (rp220394) - SDS-PAGE 3 μg/lane of Recombinant Human Tyrosinase Protein was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) and non-reducing (N) conditions and visualized by Coomassie® Blue staining, showing a band at 35.0 & 70.7 kDa under reducing conditions and 30.2 & 63.4 kDa under non-reducing conditions. At high concentrations, such as in in vitro assays or overexpression systems, tyrosinase protein may self-aggregate to form dimers or oligomers (PMID:3112146).
