Electrochemical sensor for the determination of dimetridazole using a 3D Cu2O/ErGO-modified electrode

Xionghui Ma,Jianping Li,Jinhui Luo,Chunhua Liu,Shuhuai Li

A three-dimensional Cu2O/electrochemically reduced graphene (ErGO)-modified electrode was developed for the determination of dimetridazole. Cu2O/GO was initially prepared using a modified solvothermal method, and the 3D structure was constructed by electrodepositing a Cu2O/GO dispersion on a glassy carbon electrode in the presence of lithium perchlorate. The enhanced electrocatalytic reduction of dimetridazole was confirmed, and the electrochemical reduction reaction was found to be a typical adsorption-controlled process. Our results revealed that the response to dimetridazole was linear in the concentration range of 30–150 nmol L−1 and the detection limit was 3.64 nmol L−1. The prepared electrode was also employed to detect dimetridazole in an egg sample, thereby indicating its potential practical application.

Efficient degradation of dimetridazole during the UV/chlorine process: Kinetics, pathways, and halonitromethanes formation

Wei Luo,Lin Deng,Jun Hu,Bohui Xu,Chaoqun Tan

Dimetridazole (DMZ) is widely used as a veterinary antibiotic, but it is recalcitrant in the water environment. The residual of DMZ has raised widespread concern because of its harmful effects on human health and environmental safety. This work aimed to investigate the degradation of DMZ and the corresponding formation of halonitromethanes (HNMs) during the ultraviolet (UV)/chlorine process. The UV/chlorine process presented an excellent performance in DMZ degradation.   The observed degradation rate constant of DMZ by UV/chlorine was 1.4 × 10 −1  min −1 . The hydroxyl radicals (·OH) and chlorine radicals (·Cl) were the predominant reactive species for DMZ degradation, and corresponding contributions were 79.8% and 13.7%, respectively. With the increase of free chlorine dosage, the degradation efficiency of DMZ firstly increased and then slightly decreased, while the formation of HNMs increased after 40 min UV/chlorine treatment. The higher degradation efficiency of DMZ was observed at acid circumstances, while higher HNMs formation was found at alkaline conditions due to base-catalyzed hydrolysis and less degradation of HNMs. The presences of Cl – , Br – , HCO 3 – and humic acid (HA) inhabited the degradation of DMZ. Furthermore, the possible degradation pathways of DMZ were proposed based on five intermediate products identified by UPLC/MS. Overall, the UV/chlorine was an efficient method for DMZ removal, but the formation of HNMs from DMZ should be evaluated before using UV/chlorine.

Determination of dimetridazole using carbon paste electrode modified with aluminum doped surface molecularly imprinted siloxane

Canhui Hu,Jian Deng,Xilin Xiao,Xiaozhu Zhan,Kaihui Huang,Ni Xiao,Saiqin Ju

For the first time, a simple and highly sensitive electrochemical dimetridazole (DMZ) sensor based on a carbon paste electrode modified with core-shell aluminum doped surface molecularly imprinted siloxane has been developed and tested. Because of aluminum doping, the surface imprinting sensor exhibits higher rebinding capacity, recognition ability and affinity for DMZ in comparison with the aluminum free and the non-imprinted ones. In addition, the as-prepared sensor shows good stability and satisfactory reproducibility for the determination of DMZ. Under optimal experimental conditions, the peak currents by differential pulse stripping voltammetry were found to vary linearly with DMZ concentrations in the range from 1.0   ×   10 −8 to 1.0   ×   10 −6   mol   L −1 and 1.0   ×   10 −6 to 1.0   ×   10 −4   mol   L −1 , with a detection limit of 3.6   ×   10 −9   mol   L −1 . This sensor was successfully employed to detect DMZ in egg, milk powder, and pig feed samples with acceptable recoveries of 91.4% to 107.6%, which was verified by high performance liquid chromatography.

Rapid and selective detection of furazolidone, chloramphenicol and dimetridazole using a multi-dimensional heterojunction electrochemical sensor

Youheng Pan,Tianyi Zhang,Yanyun Jin,Shixin Li,Jiandong Hu,Lanlan Li

The escalating global threat of antibiotic contamination in food and environmental matrices necessitates rapid, sensitive detection solutions. Current analytical methods suffer from limitations in multiplexing capability, portability, and sensitivity for trace antibiotic residues. Here, we report a high-performance electrochemical sensor based on a dual-metal iron/nickel metal-organic framework (Fe/Ni-MOFs/CNTs/rGO) nanocomposite supported by carbon nanotubes/reduced graphene oxide, for the simultaneous detection of furazolidone (FZD), chloramphenicol (CAP), and dimetridazole (DMZ). This sensor exhibits excellent detection performance, with a wide linear range (0.5–250 μM for FZD, 0.4–1036.8 μM for CAP, 0.2–576 μM for DMZ), and extremely low detection limits—(LOD) (0.08, 0.03, and 0.01 μM, respectively). Moreover, the recovery rate in complex matrices (eggs, milk, and lake water) exceeds 95 %, demonstrating excellent anti-interference ability. This work elucidates electron-coupled proton transfer mechanisms enabling portable antibiotic detection, bridging lab-scale innovation to practical monitoring solutions.

A highly sensitive poly-arginine based MIP as an electrochemical sensor for selective detection of dimetridazole

M.R. Ali,M.S. Bacchu,M. Daizy,C. Tarafder,M.S. Hossain,M.M. Rahman,M.Z.H. Khan

s In this experiment, a highly effective electrochemical sensor based on a molecularly imprinted polymer has been developed for ultrasensitive detection of dimetridazole. The sensor was made by incorporating of dimetridazole as a template molecule during the electropolymerization of poly-arginine on a glassy carbon electrode. The modified electrode GCE/P-Arg@MIP was characterized by voltammetric and microscopic techniques. Differential pulse voltammetry method was used to detect target analyte under the optimum condition. The DPV response to dimetridazole was linear at 0.1 × 10 −9 to 10 × 10 −6  mol L −1  ( R 2  = 0.996), with a method detection limit (S/N = 3) of 0.1 × 10 −9  mol L −1 . Moreover, the proposed sensor shows satisfactory recovery ranges for the determination dimetridazole in commercially available egg, milk and honey samples.

Adsorption Studies of Dimetridazole and Metronidazole onto Biochar Derived from Sugarcane Bagasse: Kinetic, Equilibrium, and Mechanisms

Sun Lei,Chen Dongmei,Wan Shungang,Yu Zebin

Biochar derived from sugarcane bagasse was prepared at different pyrolysis temperatures and holding times for adsorption of dimetridazole and metronidazole from aqueous solution. The optimal pyrolysis temperature and holding time were 500 °C and 120 min, respectively. The removal efficiencies of dimetridazole and metronidazole were 98.0% and 88.8%, respectively, at biochar dosage of 4.0 g L −1 and solution temperature of 30 °C. Kinetics data were fitted by four kinetics models, and results indicated that adsorption was governed by pseudo-second-order kinetics. Adsorption is a multi-step process that involves film diffusion and pore filling. In addition, five isotherm models were employed to describe the adsorption equilibrium. Brunauer–Emmett–Teller model presented better fitting for the adsorption equilibrium, and the maximum adsorption capacities were 72.17 and 23.61 mg g − 1 for dimetridazole and metronidazole, respectively. The calculated values of ΔG 0 and ΔH 0 indicated the non-spontaneous and exothermic nature of the adsorption process at the range of temperature studied. Thermodynamic studies also revealed that physical and chemical adsorptions were co-action. The adsorption mechanisms of dimetridazole and metronidazole onto biochar were mainly hydrogen bonding and π–π interaction. All the results revealed that sugarcane bagasse biochar can be used as alternative to costly adsorbents for the removal of dimetridazole and metronidazole from aqueous solution.

An electrospinning fiber-integrated MOF-on-MOF sensing platform for simultaneous and sensitive detection of furazolidone and dimetridazole

Youheng Pan,Tianyi Zhang,Jiandong Hu,Yanyun Jin,Lanlan Li

The abuse and residue of antibiotics pose a serious threat to environmental and human health, making the development of rapid and sensitive on-site detection technologies crucial. This study presents a novel strategy for the fabrication of a MOF-on-MOF heterojunction electrode via electrospinning, achieving high-performance detection of furazolidone (FZD) and dimetridazole (DMZ). The Fe/Ni-MOF core was epitaxially grown with Fe/Co-MOF nanosheet to construct Fe/Ni@Fe/Co-MOF core-shell nanocomposites. The integration of electrospinning technology enabled the scalable production of Fe/Ni@Fe/Co-MOF/PAN/SPCE electrodes at a rate of 10 units per 15-min batch. The fabricated sensor displayed excellent reproducibility, wide linear ranges (0.004–126 μM for FZD, 0.02–375 μM for DMZ), and ultra-low detection limits (1.3 nM for FZD, 5 nM for DMZ). Furthermore, it demonstrated remarkable robustness in complex environments, achieving recovery rates consistently above 96% and exhibiting strong anti-interference capabilities.

A novel core–shell magnetic nano-sorbent with surface molecularly imprinted polymer coating for the selective solid phase extraction of dimetridazole

Canhui Hu,Jian Deng,Yubao Zhao,Liangshu Xia,Kaihui Huang,Saiqin Ju,Ni Xiao

A novel core–shell magnetic nano-sorbent with surface molecularly-imprinted polymer coating was prepared via a sol–gel process. Methyltrimethoxysilane and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane were used as functional monomers, tetraethyl orthosilicate as cross-linker, and Al 3+ as dopant to generate Lewis acid sites in the silica matrix for the metal coordinate interactions with the template dimetridazole (DMZ). The ratios of the monomers, the dopant, and the cross-linker, were optimised by a OA 9 (3 4 ) orthogonal array design. The resultant sorbent was characterised by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and magnetometry. The binding performances of the sorbent were evaluated by static, kinetic and selective adsorption experiments. The nano-sorbent was successfully applied to solid phase extraction followed by spectrophotometric determination of DMZ in real samples. Spiked recoveries ranged from 90.33% to 106.20% for egg, milk powder, and pig feed samples, with relative standard deviations of less than 4.54%.
