Chitosan-based pluronic thermo-sensitive hydrogels represent a class of biomaterials characterized by their favorable biocompatibility and exceptional thermo-sensitive properties. The purpose of this study was to investigate their potential as carriers for embedding α-Mangostin (α-M), a bioactive compound derived from mangosteen peel, with the aim of inhibiting methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). During the synthesis process, chitosan (CS), tannic acid (TA), pluronic F-127 (F127), and pluronic F-68 (F68) were combined to form the thermo-sensitive hydrogel, into which α-M was physically incorporated through crosslinking (designated as CTFF@α-M). We are very interested in the results obtained during the research process. The results of fluorescence imaging in small animals showed that CTFF extended the residence time of α-M in the body from 3 to 9 days, improved the bioavailability of α-M, and achieved the goal of sustained drug release. In vitro antibacterial experiments showed that CTFF@α-M (30 mg/mL) had an inhibition rate of 79.69% against MRSA, which was higher than CTFF@amoxicillin (AM) (5 mg/mL) increased by 71.68%. This study is expected to provide new insights into the integration of biomaterials and natural therapy, and emphasize the therapeutic potential of thermosensitive hydrogels and α-M in antibacterial treatment, especially in the fight against MRSA infection. Graphic In this study, a CTPP hydrogel was prepared using a physical cross-linking method, and α-M was encapsulated to create the CTPP@α-M drug-loaded hydrogel. Various characterization techniques, including SEM, FT-IR, and XRD, were employed to confirm its physicochemical properties. The hydrogel exhibited excellent water solubility, swelling capacity, sustained release characteristics, and biocompatibility, with the ability to transform into a semi-solid gel at 37 °C. In vitro experiments demonstrated that the CTPP@α-M hydrogel showed a powerful inhibitory effect on MRSA, exhibiting strong resistance to antibiotic resistance. Infection experiments using a mouse model confirmed that CTPP@α-M not only accelerated wound healing but also significantly reduced bacterial counts at the wound site. Moreover, the CTPP@α-M group significantly decreased the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines while increasing the levels of anti-inflammatory factors, indicating its promising anti-inflammatory properties. Collectively, these data suggest that CTPP@α-M is a highly effective antibacterial thermo-sensitive hydrogel with excellent performance.

Developing devices emphasizing safety protection is becoming increasingly important due to the widespread occurrence of impact damage and thermal hazards. Herein, the F-SSG/TPU-based circular cavity structure (FC) is developed through a convenient and efficient template method, which can effectively achieve anti-impact and thermal insulation for protection. The flame-retardant shear stiffening gel/thermoplastic urethane (F-SSG/TPU) is synthesized through the dynamic interaction between the SSG, TPU, and modified ammonium polyphosphate (APP@UiO-66-NH2) by thermo-solvent reactions. The developed FC can dissipate the impact force from 4.19 to 0.99 kN at 45 cm impacting heights, indicating good anti-impact performance. Moreover, the thermal insulation test demonstrates that the FC achieves a temperature drop of 76 °C at 160 °C attributed to the unique cavity structure design. Under the continuous shock of high-temperature flame, FC remains intact, and its performance is almost undamaged. These results elaborate that the designed FC can effectively resist various damage, such as high-temperature shock and collision. Then, a wearable wristband integrated with FC is developed which exhibits superior impact resistance and heat insulation properties compared with commercial wristbands. In short, this cavity structure based on high-performance F-SSG/TPU material shows promising potential applications in the protection field.

Widespread detection in soils and sediments underscores the potential threats posed by persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) to ecosystems and organisms. Nevertheless, the formidable energy of the C-F bond imparts stability and hampers degradation. This study investigates the potential of boron carbide (B 4 C), a hard-ceramic material often utilized in armor and abrasion contexts, for degrading solid-phase PFOS through ball milling. Following a 60-minute reaction period, PFOS degradation reached 100 %, while desulfurization stabilized at 13.9 %. Defluorination initially rose to 23.7 % but subsequently displayed a gradual decline. Fluoride ions, once released, were secured and the stable reservoir surface of B 4 C during the ball-milling process, leading to the formation of B-C-B-F chemical bonds, which was confirmed through characterization by XPS, FTIR, and solid-state NMR analyses. Furthermore, intermediate byproducts formed during the degradation of PFOS, encompassing perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (PFSAs) and perfluoro carboxylic acids (PFCAs), were identified. Eventually, the generation of free electrons, contributing to the facilitation of degradation for both PFOS and its intermediates, was confirmed through the DPPH experiment. This identification underscores the intricacy of the PFOS degradation pathway, which encompasses the generation and subsequent breakdown of these intermediates. These discoveries hold significance for pioneering sustainable and inventive methods to combat PFOS pollution across diverse applications. Furthermore, they enrich the comprehension of how mechanical forces can be leveraged for the eco-friendly removal of PFOS contaminants.

A comprehensive understanding of gene-environment interactions is essential for maintaining human cardiac health, and deficiency in the keyparkingene exacerbates cardiac injury. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure has been determined cardiotoxicity from the epidemiological perspective but the potential remained unclear. Here, we investigated the co-effects on cardiac pathological structure and function of an emerging PFAS, 6:2 chlorinated polyfluorinated ether sulfonate acid (F-53B), on male parkin−/−mice at dose of 3 and 3000 μg/kg for 60 d. Mechanism was focused on the activity, phosphorylation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), and the content of nitric oxide (NO), vital vascular function regulating molecule. F-53B significantly increased cardiac fibrosis to 1.58- and 2.80-fold, and cardiac troponin T (cTNT) to 1.17- and 1.32-fold compared with control group, at dose of 3 and 3000 μg/kg, respectively, indicating F-53B can inhibit the normal activities of the heart and cause functional disorders. Content and phosphorylation of eNOS significantly decreased to 0.68-, 0.67-fold, and to 0.65-, 0.54-fold compared with control group, respectively. The subsequent content of NO level was also significantly decreased to 0.47- and 0.33-fold, respectively, indicating that significant co-effects of parkin deficiency and F-53B exposure on cardiac function and structural changes via eNOS/NO signalling. Our work underscores the importance of assessing cardiac risk associated with PFAS at environmentally relevant doses, especially considering environmental exposure and gene co-interaction from the perspective of F-53B andparkingene.

Sandstone buildings in humid environments are highly susceptible to fungal colonization, which poses a significant threat to the buildings’ preservation. Therefore, the development of coatings with antimicrobial properties is essential to protect these structures. This study demonstrates the antifungal activity and durability of amphiphobic and UV-absorbing F-ZnO/SiO 2 (FZS) coatings. We show that the coating efficiently inhibits the growth of Aspergillus niger , protecting the sandstone surface from one of the most common molds. A fungal inhibition rate of up to 94 % was achieved with FZS nanocomposite concentrations >0.30 % (g/L). To ensure consistent antifungal performance along with enhanced water repellency and durability under practical conditions, a concentration of 0.37 % was selected for the FZS coating. Accelerated aging tests revealed that the coated sandstone retained its antifungal activity for over 56 days under harsh environmental conditions, exhibiting an antifungal effect 800 % greater than that of uncoated sandstone. After 70 days, the coating still retained its water repellency. These results underscore the potential of the coating for long-term protection of sandstone relics, offering durability and ease of maintenance for real-world applications.

Rationale Many perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl sulfonic/sulfinic acids and their derivatives are classified as perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). The use of mass spectrometry techniques to analyze these compounds has attracted considerable research attention. Methods In this article, we employed high-resolution electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (HR-ESI-MS/MS) and all-ion fragmentation (AIF) in negative ion mode to investigate gas-phase F-atom migration reactions of various perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl sulfonic/sulfinic anions, particularly those yielding FSO 3 − or FSO 2 − . Results HR-ESI-MS/MS of CF 3 SO 3 − yielded an unexpected product ion FSO 3 − , representing a distinct pathway of gas-phase F-atom migration from C-atom to S-atom accompanied by the loss of CF 2 . Similarly, HR-ESI-MS/MS of CF 3 SO 2 − produced a dominant product ion FSO 2 − also via CF 2 elimination. Complementary ESI-MS/MS and AIF experiments on these anions confirmed that FSO 2 − and/or FSO 3 − are their characteristic fragmentation ions. Conclusion Theoretical calculations of gas-phase reactions CF 3 SO 3 − → FSO 3 − + CF 2 and CF 3 SO 2 − → FSO 2 − + CF 2 were performed to investigate the possible F-atom migration mechanisms. These results show that FSO 3 − at m/z 99 and/or FSO 2 − at m/z 83 could serve as diagnostic ions for structural elucidation of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl sulfonic/sulfinic acids and their derivatives in non-target PFASs analyses by using mass spectrometry.

Summary In this study, we synthesized a bimetal hydroxyl fluoride, Co 0.6 Zn 0.4 (OH)F, with an overlapping nanoneedle structure using a simple hydrothermal method. The synthesized Co 0.6 Zn 0.4 (OH)F was used as a new electrode material to study its electrochemical performance. Because of the synergy between Co and Zn and the high ionicity of fluorides, the Co 0.6 Zn 0.4 (OH)F electrode exhibited a discharge capacity of 1355.5 mAh g −1 during the first charging and discharging cycle. After 400 cycles at a current density of 2 A g −1 , the Co 0.6 Zn 0.4 (OH)F electrode showed an excellent specific capacity of 756 mAh g −1 . The Co 0.6 Zn 0.4 (OH)F electrode also exhibited an excellent capacitance contribution rate, indicating good rate performance. In addition, the hydroxyl and oxygen vacancies in the electrode material promoted the lithium/dilithium reactions. Therefore, Co 0.6 Zn 0.4 (OH)F is an excellent lithium storage material with high rate; thus, it has a certain potential application value in the future.

Long-term monoculture of ginger triggers Fusarium wilt, a disease caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. zingiberi ( Foz ). However, the interaction between autotoxins and pathogens remains poorly understood. This study examined the allelopathic effects of four autotoxins, syringic acid, coumarin, ferulic acid, and 7-hydroxycoumarin, on the growth, reproduction, and virulence traits of Foz . These compounds were previously identified as inhibitors of ginger growth and enzyme activity. The results revealed that the responses of Foz varied, likely because of the structural differences among the autotoxins. Syringic acid significantly inhibited mycelial growth, sporulation, and spore germination, while markedly enhancing the activity of cell wall-degrading enzymes and mycotoxin synthesis, as evidenced by the upregulation of FUB3 and FUB9 . Coumarin demonstrated a pronounced inhibitory effect on biomass production while concurrently stimulating sporulation and mycotoxin synthesis, as indicated by the upregulation of FUB6 and FUB9 . Ferulic acid treatment reduced the activity of cell wall-degrading enzymes and spore germination, while upregulating sporulation and mycotoxin synthesis. A similar pattern was observed with 7-hydroxycoumarin, which exerted a strong inhibitory effect on mycelial growth, biomass production, mycotoxin synthesis, and FUB gene cluster expression, except for FUB1 and FUB3 expression. In conclusion, four autotoxins exhibited diverse defensive roles against Fusarium wilt, whereas the pathogen enhanced its pathogenicity to counter host regulations. This study provides the first evidence of an interaction between ginger autotoxins and Foz .

Seawater electrolysis holds great promise for green hydrogen production, yet chloride ions in seawater can trigger competing chlorine chemistry, generating corrosive substances that degrade anodic performance. In this work, we report an amorphous F-doped NiFeP catalyst grown in situ on nickel foam (F-NiFeP/NF) for durable alkaline seawater oxidation. F-NiFeP/NF requires an overpotential of only 353 mV to achieve a current density of 1000 mA cm −2 and operates stably for 1000 h in alkaline seawater. F doping not only accelerates catalyst surface reconstruction processes but also favors the selective adsorption of OH − on the anode surface. Furthermore, an anion exchange membrane electrolyzer assembled with F-NiFeP/NF as the anode and Pt/C/NF as the cathode runs stably at 500 mA cm −2 for 450 h, demonstrating its potential for practical seawater electrolysis.

The development of efficient H 2 separation technology at intermediate temperatures (300~500 °C) is crucial for bridging the gap between upstream H 2 production (e.g., the water-gas shift reaction) and downstream utilization (e.g., ammonia synthesis) processes. Herein, a fluorine (F)-doping strategy is developed to enhance the proton conductivity of the BaZr 0.1 Ce 0.7 Y 0.1 Yb 0.1 O 3-δ membrane material. F incorporation into the oxygen lattice sites effectively weakens the metal–oxygen bonds and increases the concentration of oxygen vacancies, thereby improving the proton conductivity of the optimized BaZr 0.1 Ce 0.7 Y 0.1 Yb 0.1 O 3-δ F 0.1 (BZCYYbF 0.1 ) membrane. A high-efficiency F-doped electrochemical H 2 pump (EHP) with the configuration Ag-Pd|BZCYYbF 0.1 |BZCYYbF 0.1 -Ni is constructed for H 2 separation at intermediate temperatures. The constructed F-doped EHP exhibits excellent H 2 separation performance with a maximum H 2 permeation flux of 2.25 mL·min -1 ·cm -2 at a current density of 300 mA·cm -2 and near-100% Faradaic efficiency during various mixed-gas separation processes, which is much superior to that of state-of-the-art mixed protonic–electronic conducting membranes operating at 700~1000 °C. This study demonstrates the technical feasibility and high efficiency of EHPs for H 2 separation driven by electrical energy and offers an effective strategy to enhance the performance of EHPs at intermediate temperatures.

All-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) (CsPbX 3 , X = Cl, Br, I) have shown great promise in optoelectronic applications but are severely hindered by their poor environmental stability and photoluminescence (PL) quenching. In this work, we report a novel approach for enhancing both stability and optical performance by insitu growth of CsPbBr 3 QDs within a borosilicate glass matrix, assisted by SrF 2 and Sm 2 O 3 codoping. The introduction of F − ions from SrF 2 modifies the glass network structure, promoting uniform nucleation and growth of QDs. Simultaneously, Sm 3+ doping, through partial incorporation into the CsPbBr 3 QD lattice, passivates surface defects and induces lattice contraction, which enhances quantum confinement effects. At the optimal Sm 3+ concentration of 1 mol%, the PL intensity increases by 332.8%, the photoluminescence quantum yield rises from 22.01% to 37.5%, and the fluorescence lifetime extends from 95.05 to 127.69 ns. The glass encapsulation provides long-term air and water stability, outperforming conventional ligand-capped QDs. Moreover, the developed materials were successfully applied in high-brightness green and white light-emitting diodes, achieving wide color gamut coverage (up to 129.4% NTSC), and demonstrated strong potential in forensic fingerprint visualization. These results provide a new pathway for developing stable, multifunctional perovskite-based optoelectronic materials. Graphical This study demonstrates a dual strategy of F − /Sm³ + codoping and glass encapsulation to significantly enhance the luminescence performance and stability of CsPbBr 3 quantum dots. Optimal Sm³ + doping (1 mol%) yields a 332.8% increase in photoluminescence intensity, improves quantum efficiency from 22% to 37.5%, and extends fluorescence lifetime to 127.69 ns. The glass matrix provides exceptional environmental stability, retaining 78.65% initial luminescence after 50 days in air. Resulting light-emitting diode devices achieve a wide color gamut covering 129.4% of the NTSC standard.

Favorable texture and clean odor of F. venenatum protein for next generation alternative protein. • F. venenatum protein had greater hardness than soy protein due to its dense mycelial network. • A mild mushroom aroma and fewer off-odors were found in F. venenatum protein. • Heat treatment barely affects odor profiles of F. venenatum protein and free amino acids. The growing demand for sustainable food systems and alternative proteins has positioned mycoprotein as a promising food ingredient. In this study, the textural properties and odor profiles of F. venenatum TB01 protein were systematically characterized to investigate the differences with soy protein and pork through multiple approaches. The naturally formed hyphal network of F. venenatum protein forms a fibrous microstructure like animal muscle, resulting in a relatively firm texture. Compared with soy protein and pork, F. venenatum protein exhibited minimal off-odor and featured a mild mushroom odor. Specifically, 40 compounds were identified by GC–MS across all samples, of which 12 odor activity compounds were detected in F. venenatum protein. Notably, their concentration was considerably lower than those found in soy protein. Correlation analyses across different protein types consistently showed that meaty aroma was positively correlated with hexanal and ( E,E )-2,4-decadienal, while off-odors were negatively correlated with these compounds. Finally, this study highlights the potential of F. venenatum protein as a promising ingredient with minimal off-odor and desirable textural properties, together with favorable nutritional attributes that may contribute to healthier food products. These findings provided a scientific basis for its application in next-generation alternative proteins and functional foods.
