A reconstructed Mo₂C/NCNTs interface was developed for simultaneous AA, DA, and UA sensing. • Ni removal enlarged mesoporous channels and exposed more accessible Mo₂C active sites. • Mo valence modulation promoted interfacial charge transfer and electrocatalytic oxidation. • Mo₂C/NCNTs/GCE delivered resolved oxidation peaks with low detection limits. • The sensor showed good selectivity, stability, and applicability in urine and serum samples. The simultaneous electrochemical determination of ascorbic acid (AA), dopamine (DA), and uric acid (UA) is important for biological analysis, but it remains challenging because of their close oxidation potentials and coexistence in complex samples. Herein, a reconstructed Mo₂C/NCNTs interface was developed as an efficient sensing platform through a pyrolysis–acid etching strategy. During pyrolysis, Ni nanoparticles promoted the in situ growth of nitrogen-doped carbon nanotubes (NCNTs), while Mo species were converted into Mo₂C, producing a closely integrated Ni/Mo₂C/NCNTs precursor. Subsequent selective removal of Ni generated Mo₂C/NCNTs with preserved tubular architecture, enlarged mesoporous channels, increased pore volume, exposed Mo₂C active sites, and redistributed Mo valence states. These structural and electronic features improved analyte diffusion, interfacial charge transfer, and electrocatalytic oxidation. The Mo₂C/NCNTs-modified glassy carbon electrode exhibited well-resolved oxidation peaks and enhanced current responses for AA, DA, and UA. The detection limits were 3.2 μM for AA, 0.11 μM for DA, and 0.15 μM for UA. The sensor also showed good selectivity, repeatability, reproducibility, and long-term stability. Satisfactory recoveries obtained in urine and serum samples further confirmed its applicability for practical analysis. This work provides an effective interface-regulation strategy for constructing Mo₂C-based electrochemical sensors for multi-analyte detection in biological matrices Download: Download high-res image (200KB) Download: Download full-size image

Urea-assisted electrolysis is a promising strategy for energy-efficient hydrogen production by replacing the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) with the thermodynamically favorable urea oxidation reaction (UOR). However, the sluggish UOR kinetics and the demand for efficient hydrogen evolution (HER) require highly active bifunctional catalysts. Herein, vertically aligned Mo-doped Co2P (Mo–Co2P) nanoarrays supported on nickel foam are constructed via a metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived strategy. Mo incorporation induces electronic redistribution, downshifting the Co d-band center and weakening d–p orbital hybridization, thereby reducing Co–P bond covalency and optimizing the hydrogen adsorption free energy to 0.15 eV. Under anodic conditions, the surface reconstructs into active oxyhydroxide phases, while Mo promotes urea adsorption and activation. Consequently, Mo–Co2P achieves excellent bifunctional activity, requiring only −52 mV for HER and 1.359 V for UOR to reach 10 mA cm–2. The assembled urea-assisted electrolyzer delivers 10 mA cm–2 at a low cell voltage of 1.429 V, with a 13.2% lower energy consumption than conventional water electrolysis. This work highlights orbital hybridization and bond covalency engineering for developing advanced bifunctional catalysts.

Fe doping reduces the Volmer barrier of MoNi 4 to enhance HER activity. • Mo leaching induces reconstruction into active NiMoFeOOH@MoO 4 2- for OER. • The AEMWE using this catalyst as dual electrodes reaches low voltages at 500 and 1000 mA cm -2 . • The electrolyzer operates stably for over 200 h, revealing great application potential in water electrolysis. The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is fundamentally limited by the sluggish water dissociation step, while the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is constrained by the reconstruction behavior of the catalyst under operating conditions. Herein, we report a Fe-doped NiMoO x nanoflower decorated with Fe-doped MoNi 4 nanoparticles (Fe-MoNi 4 @NiMoO x ). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the incorporation of Fe lowers the Volmer step energy barrier for MoNi 4 , thereby boosting its HER performance. For the OER, Mo leaching drives the reconstruction of MoNi 4 into catalytically active NiMoFeOOH@MoO 4 2− . Furthermore, theoretical calculations confirm that Fe/Mo doping and adsorbed MoO 4 2− facilitate rapid electron transfer within NiMoFeOOH and reduce the energy barrier of the rate-determining step for the OER. As a result, the Fe-MoNi 4 @NiMoO x catalyst delivers exceptional HER and OER activities, with overpotentials as low as 102 and 212 mV for HER, and 278 and 343 mV for OER at current densities of 100 and 500 mA cm −2 , respectively, alongside excellent stability exceeding 100 h at 500 mA cm −2 . When employed as both the cathode and anode in an anion exchange membrane water electrolyzer (AEMWE), this catalyst achieves current densities of 500 and 1000 mA cm −2 at low cell voltages of 2.22 and 2.56 V, respectively, while maintaining stable operation for over 200 h at 500 mA cm −2 . Fe-MoNi 4 @NiMoO x nanoflower electrode was developed for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). For HER, Fe incorporation lowers the Volmer step energy barrier of MoNi 4 , thereby boosting its HER performance. For OER, Mo leaching induces reconstruction into NiMoFeOOH@MoO 4 2− , where Fe/Mo doping and MoO 4 2− adsorption synergistically enhance electron transfer and reduce the rate-determining step barrier. Developing stable and efficient non-precious metal electrocatalysts for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for advancing water electrolysis and sustainable energy systems. Herein, we exploit a trimetallic MoNiFe metal-organic framework (MOF) with high surface area, porosity, synergistic active sites derived from metallic components, and charge-tunable organic ligands. Via a solvothermal synthesis followed by gas-phase phosphorization, the MoNiFe-MOF/NF precursor is transformed into Mo–NiFeP@NC/NF. Benefiting from structural and compositional advantages, Mo–NiFeP@NC/NF exhibits superior OER activity and stability in alkaline media compared to commercial RuO 2 /NF. The catalyst achieves current densities of 50 and 100 mA cm −2 at low overpotentials of 271 and 303 mV, respectively, along with a reduced Tafel slope, indicating favorable reaction kinetics. Moreover, the electrode shows negligible activity degradation after continuous operation at 50 mA cm −2 for 61 h. This work provides a new insight into the rational construction of efficient and stable non-precious metal OER catalysts based on metal doping and MOF-derived strategies.

Bimetallic Fe/Mo-doped carbon dots (Fe/Mo-CDs) have been developed as a high-performance nanozyme to construct a self-validating dual-mode (colorimetric/fluorometric) platform for hydroquinone (HQ) detection. The Fe/Mo-CDs exhibited strong peroxidase-like activity, catalyzing H 2 O 2 -mediated TMB oxidation to generate oxTMB, which simultaneously yields a colorimetric signal and quenches the fluorescence of Fe/Mo-CDs through a confirmed FRET process. The introduction of HQ competitively scavenges the essential reactive oxygen species, inhibiting oxTMB formation and triggering synchronous signal inversion in both channels. This endogenous self-validating function enables favorable analytical performance, with wide linear ranges and ultralow detection limits (0.03 µM for colorimetric; 0.016 µM for fluorometric). Successful application in commercial creams with satisfactory recoveries underscores its strong potential for accurate and reliable screening in complex samples. This work not only presents a sensitive sensor for HQ but also offers a novel design strategy for developing intelligent, self-validating biosensing systems.

The growing prevalence of antibiotic residues in aquatic environments, particularly recalcitrant antibiotics like tetracycline (TC), poses significant ecological risks. In this study, a novel Bi 2 WO 6 /Mo-doped BiVO 4 /NH 2 -UiO-66 (BBU) ternary heterojunction photocatalyst was successfully synthesized via a solvothermal method to enhance visible-light-driven TC degradation through component synergy. Systematic characterization revealed that Mo doping induced lattice distortion in BiVO 4 , while the incorporation of NH 2 -UiO-66 drastically increased the specific surface area from 23.647 to 398.804 m 2 ·g −1 , providing abundant active sites. Photoluminescence (PL) and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) analyses demonstrated that the optimized BBU-3 sample exhibited the lowest charge carrier recombination rate. Under visible light irradiation for 80 min, BBU-3 achieved 95.2% degradation of TC, with reaction kinetics 8.61, 15.76, and 5.01 times higher than those of pristine Bi 2 WO 6 , BiVO 4 , and binary heterojunctions, respectively. Degradation-trapping experiments and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) measurements indicate that h + , 1 O 2 and ·O 2 - are the primary reactive species, suggesting that this system is a synergistic radical-non-radical degradation system. Additionally, possible degradation pathways and intermediate toxicity were evaluated. This work offers a promising strategy for designing efficient bismuth-based MOF heterojunctions for antibiotic remediation in water.

The deoxygenation and alkylation reactions during the co-pyrolysis of lignin and SBC were investigated. • Mo-doped biochar increased alkylphenols selectivity from 6.5% to 33.0%. • In-situ DRIFTS and DFT calculations were used to investigate the pyrolysis mechanism. • The electron-donating effect of methoxy groups facilitated the adsorption of methoxyphenols onto the catalyst. • The formation mechanism of alkylphenols was proposed. Lignin pyrolysis is a sustainable pathway for synthesizing high-value alkylphenol chemicals and fuels. In this study, the co-pyrolysis process of lignin and spent bleaching clay was investigated for producing alkylphenols. The effects of different metal-loaded biochars, pyrolysis temperatures, and lignin-derived phenolic compounds on the distribution of pyrolysis products were examined. The results showed that the total acid content in Mo/C was 3.39 times higher than that in the pristine carbon. Additionally, Mo/C exhibited the highest number of weak acid sites (56.0%), abundant surface oxygen-containing functional groups, and a microporous structure. These characteristics facilitated both the cleavage of methoxy groups (C Ar –OCH 3 ) and the occurrence of aromatic C–C coupling reactions, thus increasing the selectivity of alkylphenols from 6.5% to 33.0%. Alkylphenol yield peaked at 500°C, whereas higher temperatures favored demethoxylation over coupling. Methoxyphenol exhibited an approximately 20–25% higher alkylation rate than phenol. Electrostatic potential calculations attributed this enhancement to the electron-donating effect of the methoxy group, which facilitated its attack by electrophilic alkyl fragments. In-situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) revealed the anchoring of phenolic intermediates on the Mo/C surface through Mo–O bonds. Charge difference calculations revealed electron transfer between the oxygen-containing functional groups of phenolic compounds and the Mo/C catalyst, thereby activating the C–O bond. Alkylphenols were generated through two distinct pathways: the deoxygenation of methoxyphenols and the coupling reaction between phenol and alkyl fragments. The deoxygenation pathway was more energetically favorable. This study provides insight into the low-cost and efficient production of green alkylphenol compounds. Recently, Fe-based materials have been widely used to activate persulfate (PMS) for the degradation of organic pollutants. However, the sluggish Fe(III)/Fe(II) cycle often results in catalyst deactivation. In this work, we modified iron oxide on carbon nitride with molybdenum (FeMo/CN), which was characterized by the interfacial sites of Fe0/Fe2(MoO4)3 and Fe2O3/Fe2(MoO4)3. Systematic investigations indicate that the interfacial sites in the FeMo/CN material promote the cycling efficiency of Fe(III)/Fe(II). Also, the strong interaction between FeMo/CN and PMS drives the transformation of PMS into O2•–, which subsequently undergoes conversion to form 1O2 as the main reactive oxygen species. 50 mg·L–1 Rhodamine B (RhB) can be almost completely removed within 20 min in the FeMo/CN + PMS system. The FeMo/CN catalyst suppresses the majority of catalysts documented in previous studies, showing an impressive specific rate constant value of 10.78 L2·min–1·g–2. Additionally, the FeMo/CN + PMS system demonstrates remarkable wide-ranging applicability, excellent environmental tolerance, and good stability. It has the capacity to continuously treat 51.84 L of simulated organic pollutants (RhB solution) while consistently maintaining a degradation rate of over 99%. This work highlights the practicality of interface engineering in Fe-based materials and inspires the rational design of materials for sustainable environmental remediation.

Distinguished by a unique three-dimensional (3D) network structure and commendable electrical conductivity, one-dimensional (1D) carbon nanofibers (CNF) exemplifies a pivotal class of microwave absorption materials. However, their effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) suffers from inadequacy on account of poor impedance matching. To conquer this drawback, a novel in situ dual-doping strategy was employed in this article. Incorporating boron (B) and low-valence-state molybdenum (Mo), this strategy is merged with electrospinning and high-temperature treatment, aimed to fabricate Mo and B co-doped carbon nanofibers (Mo-B/CNF) with superior microwave absorption performance. An array of characterization techniques were leveraged to delve into the microstructure and properties of the Mo-B/CNF. The analysis corroborated a uniform distribution of Mo and B elements within the carbon matrix, alongside the formation of Mo 2 N species. Outstanding microwave absorption was identified for the resulting Mo-B/CNF, accompanied by a minimum reflection loss of -57.7 dB at 10.3 GHz and an EAB of 6.05 GHz. As further demonstrated by radar cross-section simulations, the Mo-B/CNF is capable of attenuating electromagnetic scattering from metallic backplanes and large unmanned aerial vehicles, which highlights their promise in radar stealth applications. Following a structural optimization via 3D electromagnetic simulation software, the metamaterial fabricated from Mo-B/CNF attains an ultra-broad effective absorption bandwidth (EAB) of 32.1 GHz across the 2-40 GHz frequency range. This study delineates the electromagnetic wave absorption traits of Mo-B/CNF, and provides another insight for designing next-generation microwave absorption materials.

Earth-abundant metal sulfides attracts large attention in recent years for hydrogen production via electrocatalytic water splitting. However, most works have been limited to the acidic condition, whereas the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline condition has rarely been discussed. Here we present an effective strategy for the growing of Co-Mo-S catalysts on carbon cloth via the controllable incorporation of cobalt into MoS 2 with L-cysteine and phosphomolybdic acid to achieve the synergistic interaction of CoS 2 and MoS 2 . The optimized Co-Mo-S catalysts (Co:Mo=1:2) showed a largely improved HER activity with an overpotential of 92 mV at current density of 10 mA cm -2 and Tafel slope of 82 mV dec -1 . The origin of the activity enhancement was investigated through a series of characterizations, where the synergetic effect of the intrinsic fast HER kinetics of metallic CoS 2 and the high active surface area of MoS 2 plays a crucial role. With appropriate amount of cobalt, the Co-Mo-S catalysts show a relatively uniform distribution on the carbon cloth to ensure the large surface area, whereas excessive cobalt results in the formation of the large CoS 2 particles with low HER activity from the low active surface area. Further electrochemical measurements demonstrated that the combination of larger exchange current density of CoS 2 and the high electrochemical double–layer capacitance (proportional to the active surface area) of MoS 2 together contributed to the HER activity enhancement of the Co-Mo-S catalysts. The Co-Mo-S/CC catalysts also show robust stability in alkaline solution. Our work provides a more profound understanding and an interesting view for the design of efficient ternary transition metal sulfide HER catalysts in alkaline condition by synergetic optimization of the intrinsic HER kinetics and the electrochemical active surface area.

Experiments were carried out to determine the effect of cooling rate on the nucleation, growth and microstructure evolution during the solidification process in Ce containing S31254 high Mo austenite stainless steel (HMASS). In situ observations and in situ quenching tests indicate that the Ce effects in this steel are to refine the equiaxed grain and change in the secondary phase from σ to δ, but are mainly suitable for the medium and low cooling rate. The high cooling rate is highly beneficial for austenite nucleation and significantly influence the primary austenite grain growth behavior. The growth velocity for austenite grain is increased with the increase in cooling rate. The morphology of the primary austenite would change from a crescent shape to rod shape with the cooling rate increased from 50 °C/min to 100 °C/min. Rod-shaped grains with high nucleation densities would make primary grains easy to be combined together, which would reduce the ability of the refined grain. Furthermore, a high cooling rate could slightly improve the solute redistribution, while it significantly deteriorated the micro-segregation of Mo in a solidified structure. The main reason is that high cooling rate could worsen the kinetic condition of ferrite precipitation and postpone the precipitation reaction at the end of the solidification process.
