Design of efficient metal-acid bifunction catalysts is of significance for development of hydroisomerization of linear alkanes. In this study, the spatial configurational construction of Pt-ZSM-5 catalytic system was achieved by fabrication of acidic ZSM-5 zeolite and mesoporous silica core-shell composites equipped with controlled location of Pt sites, which aim to explore the effect of functional sites proximity on isomerization reactivity. A series of characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, transmission electronic microscopy, N 2 physical adsorption, NH 3 temperature programmed desorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and so on had confirmed that the synthesized core-shell bifunctional catalysts with different Pt location possessing similar textural, acid and metal properties. In the catalytic hydroisomerization of n -heptane, however, the catalyst with Pt sites locating at acid zeolite exhibits superior n -heptane conversion and isomerization selectivity, which indicates that proximity of active sites at atomic scale may be more conducive to their synergistic effect when the diffusional limitation from zeolitic channel is minimized. These results had presented new direction for the preparation of efficient bifunctional catalysts in hydroisomerization of linear alkanes.

The catalytic hydrogenation of nitroarenes to aromatic amines constitutes a pivotal transformation in fine chemical synthesis, yet existing catalysts face inherent trade-offs between activity, chemoselectivity, and structural stability. In this work, we demonstrate a vacancy-directed strategy enabled by flash Joule heating to engineer Pt single-atom catalysts with tailored Pt-N 3 Cl 1 coordination on nitrogen-doped activated carbon (Pt-NAC-J). The instantaneous thermal shock (1000 °C, 1 s) generates abundant vacancy-rich defects that enable ultra-dispersed Pt anchoring and reconfigure the Pt coordination from Pt-N 4 Cl 1 to asymmetric Pt-N 3 Cl 1 . Theoretical calculations reveal that the vacancy-induced charge redistribution at Pt-N 3 Cl 1 sites synergistically facilitates the adsorption of the -NO 2 group and the heterolytic dissociation of H 2 , thereby significantly enhancing the selective hydrogenation of nitroarenes. Compared to the conventional high-temperature pyrolyzed Pt-NAC-P catalyst, Pt-NAC-J exhibits prominent catalytic efficiency under mild conditions (40 °C, 0.5 MPa H 2 ) while preserving sensitive functional groups with >99 % selectivity. Remarkably, the catalyst maintains >99 % selectivity at elevated temperatures up to 100 °C and 100 % activity retention over 8 reaction cycles, showcasing unprecedented chemoselectivity and stability of the vacancy-stabilized Pt sites. The universality of this methodology is further evidenced through extension to a non-noble Co-NAC-J catalyst, which surpasses most reported non-precious metal systems in catalytic performance. This work opens a new avenue for vacancy-mediated coordination engineering in carbon-supported single-atom catalysts for industrial selective hydrogenation processes.

Hydroxylammonium nitrate (HAN)-based propellants represent next-generation monopropellants for thrusters. Ruthenium is a promising catalytic material for HAN-based propellants, with the merits of high activity and relatively low price. However, ruthenium catalyst is unstable and prone to aggregation and oxidation. Herein, we prepared a Ru–Pt alloy nanoparticle (NP) catalyst via an impregnation method. The addition of Pt effectively delayed the deactivation of Ru. In order to understand the active components of the catalyst, both fresh and aged catalyst samples were characterized. The active species was identified as Ru0 species, which was gradually oxidized to Ru/RuOx. In droplet and thruster tests, the Ru–Pt alloy NP catalyst exhibited a higher activity and stability than the Ru NP catalyst and successfully passed through the pulse and 100-second-long steady-state thruster tests, with good pulse consistency and low steady-state roughness. This work provides a promising pathway to explore low-cost catalysts for HAN decomposition.

In this study, anisotropy strategy was employed to effectively enhance the piezoelectric performance and energy harvesting capability of 6 Pb(Sc 1/2 Nb 1/2 )O 3 -61 Pb(Mg 1/3 Nb 2/3 )O 3 -33PbTiO 3 (Abb. 6PSN–61PMN–33PT) ceramics. A high crystallographic orientation (Lotgering factor F 001 exceeding 98.5 %) was obtained in 6PSN–61PMN–33PT textured ceramics using the template grain growth (TGG) method. The piezoelectric response of 6PSN–61PMN–33PT ceramics was significantly improved, while the dielectric constant ( ε r ) was reduced. Compared to random ceramics, the textured ceramics exhibited higher figure of merit ( d 33 × g 33 ), markedly enhanced electromechanical coupling factor ( k p ) and piezoelectric coefficient ( d 33 ). The optimal properties were obtained in 6PSN–61PMN–33PT textured ceramics with 1 wt% BaTiO 3 template: d 33 = 1179 pC/N, k p = 0.87, ε r = 2766, d 33 × g 33 = 5.67 × 10 −11 m 2 /N, dielectric loss tan δ about 0.56 %, mechanical quality factor Q m = 194, and piezoelectric strain constant d 33 ∗ = 1130 pm/V and maximum strain S = 0.23 % at 20 kV/cm. These results demonstrate that 6PSN–61PMN–33PT textured ceramics hold promising application potential in energy harvesters.

Commercial Pt/C catalyst in Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) usually suffers from Pt agglomeration, dissolution, and carbon support corrosion—exacerbated by Pt-catalyzed carbon oxidation. To address these challenges, composite supports combining high stability and electronic synergy with Pt have emerged as a promising solution. Herein, a platinum nanoparticle catalyst supported on a nitrogen-doped titania/carbon composite (Pt NPs/TiO₂-N/C) was successfully fabricated via a two-step hydrothermal method, aiming to optimize both oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) kinetics and durability through regulated support structures and interfacial interactions. Experimental results demonstrate that strong metal-support interactions (SMSI) between Pt and TiO₂-N/C play a critical role. On one hand, SMSI induces electron transfer from the support to Pt, enhances ORR kinetics. On the other hand, this interaction promotes preference nucleation and distribution of Pt on TiO₂-N surfaces, reducing direct Pt-carbon contact and effectively inhibiting Pt-catalyzed carbon corrosion, thereby improving durability. The Pt NPs/TiO₂-N/C catalyst exhibits excellent ORR activity with a half-wave potential of 0.842 V (vs. RHE) and remarkable stability, showing only a 33 mV decay in half-wave potential after 5000 accelerated degradation test cycles. This study validates that precise regulation of metal-support electronic interactions enables synergistic optimization of catalytic activity, stability, providing a theoretical basis and practical strategies for the rational design of high-performance PEMFC catalysts.

The global epidemic of diabetes urgently requires continuous and non-invasive glucose monitoring techniques. This article presents the development of a novel Pt/PANI-modified TiO 2 /PVAc nanofiber electrochemical sensor to address this challenge. In this research, the doping of Pt particles and PANI particles has effectively enhanced the electrochemical performance of the electrode. TiO 2 is first mixed with PVAc powder and then dissolved in an acetone/ethanol solution. Subsequently, fibers are fabricated through electrospinning technology and laid onto the electrode surface. The incorporation of TiO 2 offers more active sites for the deposition of Pt and PANI, thereby strengthening the stability of the overall structure. Furthermore, after the immobilization of Pt and PANI, the designed electrode demonstrates more outstanding performance in glucose detection. Experiments have shown that the peak current of the Pt/PANI/TiO₂/PVAc electrode in the electrochemical detection of glucose is 11 times that of the TiO₂/PVAc electrode. The results indicate that the ultimate electrode exhibits a detection limit of 0.001 mM, with a sensitivity of 7.818 μA·mM⁻¹·cm⁻², and a linear detection range spanning from 50 μM to 7 mM. These characteristics render it suitable for applications involving the detection of physiological glucose concentrations. This work demonstrated a promising step towards practical and effective wearable glucose monitoring, offering a safer and more convenient alternative for diabetes management.

Coating Manganese oxide (MnO x ) onto solid substrates is one of the most effective approaches for addressing the inherent agglomeration tendency of powdered MnO x in practical applications. In this study, we deposited MnO x onto activated carbon (AC) and improved the catalytic performance for formaldehyde (HCHO) removal by introducing metal platinum (Pt). When evaluated as catalysts in the HCHO catalytic reaction at ambient temperature, the obtained 0.05 wt% Pt-MnO x /AC catalyst possessed remarkable catalytic and adsorption activity and stability. It could achieve 98%HCHO removal by degrading 1.01 ppm HCHO to 0.02 ppm (0.024 mg/m 3 ) within 2 h in static test at ambient temperature. Further structure-performance investigations revealed the crucial role of metal Pt, which not only improved the oxygen activation capacity but also increased the contents of adsorbed oxygen species and enriched oxygen vacancies; therefore, key intermediates, including performic acid, formate, and CO, can be easily converted. More importantly, the deactivated catalyst regained its full activity after 6 h of air exposure, which was attributed to the rapid regeneration of surface hydroxyl groups through atmospheric O 2 and the oxidation of accumulated intermediates. This study reveals the HCHO catalytic mechanism over Pt-MnO x /AC and provides valuable insights into the design of high-activity, relatively low-cost environmental catalysts. Graphical abstract

Pd@Pt nanozymes are recognized for their extensive specific surface area and enzyme-like catalytic capabilities. However, the role of Pd@Pt nanoparticles in managing metabolic disorders such as diabetes and its related disorders remains poorly understood. This study endeavors to explore the regulatory function of Pd@Pt nanoparticles in metabolic balance, elucidating the associated mechanisms. We demonstrate that Pd@Pt inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species and modulates oxidative stress through its superoxide-dismutase-like enzyme activity in palmitic-acid-induced insulin resistance cell model. Furthermore, Pd@Pt was found to enhance glucose uptake, reduce hyperglycemia, and improve glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, attributable to its anti-inflammatory effects. Additionally, the effectiveness of the multifunctional Pd@Pt-based microneedle in expediting the healing of diabetic wounds was confirmed by suppressing key inflammatory signaling pathways. Collectively, our findings highlight the potential of Pd@Pt nanoparticles as powerful anti-inflammatory agents, offering promising therapeutic options for type 2 diabetes and its associated complications.

Liquid organic hydrogen carriers represent a promising strategy for advancing the development of hydrogen-based energy systems. However, the catalytic dehydrogenation performance of cycloalkanes on Pt-based catalysts is intrinsically limited by a trade-off between reactant activation and aromatic products desorption. The strongly adsorbed products prove detrimental and require enhancement of desorption without activity loss. Here, we synthesized thermally stable Pt nanoparticles immobilized by uniformly distributed NiOx species on fumed SiO2. For methylcyclohexane dehydrogenation, the stabilizing role of NiOx cluster-modified SiO2 combined with hydrogen-carrier-gas-assisted toluene desorption ensured the long-term stability of Pt nanoparticles. Furthermore, the optimized NiOx–Pt interaction generated partially positively charged Pt species, facilitating C–H activation. The synthesized PtNi1/SiO2 exhibited a hydrogen production rate of 58.9 mmolH2 gcat–1 min–1 with high toluene selectivity (>99%) at 350 °C. It remained stable for over 2400 min through intermittent regeneration under a high weight hourly space velocity of 50 h–1. This work demonstrates the rational design of thermally stable metal nanoparticles and provides mechanistic insights into suppressing dehydrogenation and catalyst deactivation.

Metal-support interaction (MSI) is regarded as an indispensable manner to stabilize active metals and modulate catalytic activity, which shows great potentials in developing of efficient hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrode with high activity and strong robustness. Herein, this work presents a novel heterostructure with ultrafine platinum quantum dots (Pt QDs) on defective catalytic supports derived from metal-organic frameworks (MOFs). It is indicated substantial oxygen vacancies can be generated and Pt–Pt bonds can be optimized through topological transformation. The resulting Pt/T-NiFe-BDC (BDC: C 8 H 6 O 4 ) exhibits competitive HER activity in alkaline seawater, attaining ultralow overpotentials of 158 and 266 mV at 500 and 1000 mA cm –2 with fast kinetics and outstanding stability. An asymmetric water electrolyzer using Pt/T-NiFe-BDC as a cathode only requires a voltage of 1.89 V to generate an industrial density of 1000 mA cm –2 and shows no attenuation in 500-h continuous test at 500 mA cm –2 . Theoretical calculations and in-situ spectroscopic analysis reveal the reversible hydrogen spillover mechanism, in which oxygen vacancies facilitate the sluggish water dissociation and Pt QDs promote the H* combination. This study provides a new paradigm to engineer metal-supported catalysts for efficient and robust seawater splitting.

The development of high-performance electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in different pH conditions is pivotal in producing green hydrogen, but remains challenging. Herein, we regulate the p-d orbitals hybridization between B and Pt for effective and durable HER at all pH ranges by controlling the inserted B atom. Consequently, the optimized B-doped Pt catalysts with 20 at.% B content (Pt80B20/C) has the highest HER performance, with only 7 mV overpotential in acidic conditions, 37 mV in alkaline media, and 47 mV in neutral media, more remarkably, have negligible attenuation during electrolysis up to 100 h, which is superior to commercial Pt/C catalysts. Theoretical calculations revealed that by inserting appropriate B atoms in the interstitial vacancies of Pt, the electronic structure of Pt is suitable for providing appropriate hydrogen intermediates (H*) adsorption/desorption strength, resulting in superior acid HER electrocatalyst performance. Besides, a strong electronic interaction existed between Pt and inserted-B atoms leaving Pt sites in an electron deficiency state, which facilitates the bond cleavage of the H-OH of H 2 O, hence accelerating water dissociation and promoting neutral/alkaline HER dynamics.

Noble metals offer a wide range of potential catalysis applications, particularly in fuel cells and supercapacitors. The decoration strategy is a promising efficient strategy to address the limited structural flexibility and enhance the performance of noble metal electrode materials. Herein, we report a facile method to synthesize the nanocomposites with Pt nanoclusters (NCs) decorated on the surface of 2H-MoS2 nanosheets (Pt NCs@2H-MoS2). Fortunately, Pt NCs@2H-MoS2 demonstrates excellent catalytic activity and stability toward the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in alkaline solutions, along with satisfactory electrochemical characteristics for supercapacitors (SCs). Specifically, a low overpotential of 61.2 mV at 10 A g–1 and 98% retention after 10 h can be achieved for the HER, which is comparable to the commercial Pt/C catalysts. When used as electrode materials for supercapacitors, a high specific capacitance of 284 F g–1 can be achieved at a scan rate of 5 mV s–1 in 1 M KOH. Consequently, these results demonstrate that the noble metal-decorated transition metal materials strategy offers significant potential for economically and sustainably electrochemical applications.
