Electrospun nanofiber membranes (ENMs) of polyvinylidene fluoride which is known as solid phase extraction materials were fabricated through electrospinning technology. Different electrospinning conditions including polymer content, spinning voltage and flow rate were investigated. The optimal operation conditions for electrospun process were set at 12% of PVDF mass fraction, 12 kV of spinning voltage, 0.5 mL h−1 of flow rate, 15 cm of receiving distance, 22 °C of spinning temperature and 45% of environmental humidity. The self-made ENMs were introduced into a combined method of radial electric focusing solid phase extraction enrichment, ultrasonic elution, UV-Vis detection and PLS calculation for determining benzoic acid, phthalic acid and p-toluene sulfonic acid in aqueous samples simultaneously. The calculation results of unknown sample show that the concentrations of benzoic acid, phthalic acid and p-toluene sulfonic acid were 4.416 mg L−1, 4.976 mg L−1 and 5.27 mg L−1, respectively. The relative standard deviation values of each component are all less than 2% with a relative recovery of 84–119%. The ENMs illustrate their fascinating application prospects in determining trace complex materials in aqueous samples.

Ultrafiltration membranes are widely used for the treatment of papermaking wastewater. The antifouling performance of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) ultrafiltration membranes can be improved by changing the hydrophilicity. Here, a novel amphiphilic copolymer material, PVDF grafted with N-isobutoxy methacrylamide (PVDF-g-IBMA), was prepared using ultraviolet-induced Cu(II)-mediated reversible deactivation radical polymerization. The amphipathic copolymer was used to prepare ultrafiltration membrane via NIPS. The prepared PVDF-g-IBMA ultrafiltration membrane was estimated using 1 H NMR, FT-IR, and DSC. The contact angle, casting viscosity, and the permeation performance of the PVDF-g-IBMA ultrafiltration membrane were also determined. The pure water flux, bovine serum albumin removal rate, and pure water flux recovery rate of the PVDF-g-IBMA ultrafiltration membrane were 432.8 L·m −2 ·h −1 , 88.4%, and 90.8%, respectively. Furthermore, for the treatment of actual papermaking wastewater, the chemical oxygen demand and turbidity removal rates of the membrane were 61.5% and 92.8%, respectively. The PVDF-g-IBMA amphiphilic copolymer ultrafiltration membrane exhibited good hydrophilicity and antifouling properties, indicating its potential for treating papermaking wastewater. A novel amphiphilic copolymer PVDF-g-IBMA prepared by UV-induced RDRP. Good hydrophilic and anti-fouling properties of PVDF-g-IBMA copolymer UF membrane. The MWCO, BSA rejection rate and pure water recovery ratio were 43.7 kDa, 88.4% and 90.8%, respectively. For treating actual papermaking wastewater, the COD removal rate reached 61.5%.

A high-safety composite solid-state electrolyte (CSSE) was constructed by embedding the high ionic conductivity garnet type Li 6.5 La 3 Zr 1.5 Ta 0.1 Nb 0.4 O 12 (LLZTNO) powder into a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrix. The ionic conductivity of the CSSE containing 10% LLZTNO could reach 1.05 × 10 −4 S cm −1 , and the electrochemical window was extended to 4.80 V vs Li/Li + . In addition, the evolution and composition of the SEI layer were characterized by in-situ optical microscopic observation, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM). When paired with an NCM811 cathode, the batteries showed good rate cycling performance, and the discharge capacity could be maintained at 137.1 and 91.2 mAh g −1 at 0.3C and 2C after 80 and 100 cycles. The needle penetration test further demonstrated superior safety and potential applications of the PVDF-based room-temperature CSSE batteries.

In order to reduce membrane fouling and fabricate highly selective membranes with high water permeability, three kinds of comb-shaped amphiphilic triblock copolymers , poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate]- b -poly(methyl methacrylate)- b -poly[poly(ethylene glycol) methacrylate] (PPEGMA- b -PMMA- b -PPEGMA, named as PEME), were synthesized via RAFT polymerization and used as modifiers to prepare poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) blend membranes by the non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method. The effects of PEME with different hydrophilic PPEGMA length on the surface chemical structure, morphology, permeability and antifouling properties of the blend membranes were investigated detailedly. The results from ATR-FTIR and XPS tests confirmed that hydrophilic PPEGMA segments in PEME were enriched on the membrane surface due to PEME induced surface segregation. With the increase of the hydrophilic chain length in PEME, the mean pore size, porosity and roughness of the blend membrane increased gradually, indicating the modifier had the ability to adjust the membrane pore structure. Compared with pure membrane, the hydrophilicity of blend membranes was enhanced and the protein adsorption of representative bovine serum albumin (BSA) decreased obviously. After three cycles of the water-BSA-water, the M-2 blend membrane exhibited high BSA solution flux (150 L·m −2 ·h −1 ), excellent rejection (up to 99.99%) and satisfactory antifouling performance. In addition, compared with the recently published PVDF blend ultrafiltration membranes prepared by NIPS method, the M-2 membrane with surface small pore size, high flux, high selectivity and low fouling properties overcame the permeability-selectivity trade-off for BSA solution separation and showed a good application prospect for efficiently protein separation.

Solid-state Li-ion batteries (LIBs) have recently attracted much attention for their high safety and energy density . Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is as a potential electrolyte for solid-state LIBs due to its high permittivity, wide voltage window and excellent thermal stability. Here, Y 3+ -doped Li 29 Zr 9 Nb 3 O 40 (LZNO) Li-ionic conductor with room temperature conductivity (σ 25 ) of 1.26 × 10 −4 S cm −1 is prepared. LZNO decorated PVDF-based composite solid electrolytes (CSEs) are fabricated. The PVDF-based CSE with 10% (mass ratio) of LZNO shows σ 25 of 2.34 × 10 −4 S cm −1 , and has thermal stability with melting temperature up to 332 °C and voltage window of 4.8 V. The assembled Li ( Ni 0.8 Co 0.1 Mn 0.1 ) O 2 |CSE|Li cells show initial specific discharge capacity of 216.7 mAh g −1 at 0.1 C, and exhibit high capacity and cycle performance. LiFePO 4 |CSE|Li cells display initial specific discharge capacity of 137.4 mAh g −1 at 0.5 C and high cycle performance. Addition of LZNO powder in CSEs can inhibit the dehydrofluorination of PVDF during the charge-discharge of cells, alleviate the deterioration of interface resistance, and greatly improve the specific discharge capacity of cells at high rates.

A large pore size Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membrane was prepared by the V-NIPS method using PVDF/N, N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc)/Polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)/Polyethylene glycol (PEG) system. Firstly, the effect of different additive ratios on the membrane morphology and pore size was studied, and it was found that when the PVP:PEG ratio was 8:2, PVDF membranes with a relatively large pore size tend to be formed; the pore size is about 7.5 µm. Then, the effects of different exposure time on the membrane morphology and pore size were investigated, and it was found that as the vapor temperature increased, the pores on the surface of the membrane first became slightly smaller and then increased. Finally, the effects of different vapor temperatures on the membrane properties were discussed. The results showed that the as-prepared membrane exhibited suitable capillary flow rate and similar performance compared with a commercially available membrane in colloidal gold tests. The likely cause is that the amount of negative charge is less and the capillary migration rate is too fast. This paper provides a reference for the preparation of PVDF colloidal gold detection membrane. Keywords:Poly(vinylidene fluoride);vapor non-solvent-induced phase separation;detection of colloidal gold;capillary flow rate

The direct discharge of oily wastewater into the environment is considered one of the greatest threats to the ecological environment. Membrane technology is considered as an efficient strategy to treat oily wastewater. However, the membrane fouling caused by oil adsorption has intensively impeded its practical utilization in oil/water separation. This work aims to fabricate an anti-oil-fouling membrane for the effective separation of oil/water emulsions. The PEGylated poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membrane was synthesized via thiol–ene photochemistry with poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEGDA) and 3,6-dioxa-1,8-octanedithiol (DOT) as the modifiers. The results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) mapping analysis revealed that the PEGylated layers show uniform distribution on the membrane surface by regulating the feed PEGDA concentration. The superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic characteristics of the PEGylated membrane provided oil-adhesion resistance to the membranes. The membrane grafted with a high amount of PEGylated layers shows a low pure water flux, due to the pore blockage. The PEGylated membrane possesses the stable surface wettability and permeation performance of emulsion. The separation efficiency of PEGylated membranes for multiple emulsions is greater than 99%, and the highest rejection value is as high as 99.9%. After the three-cycle filtration of emulsified pump oil solution, the flux recovery ratio of membranes still reaches 90%, indicating an outstanding fouling resistance to emulsified oily matters. This work provides a feasible strategy to prepare the antifouling PVDF membrane used for the oil/water separation.

Hydrogel coating was widely studied in the field of oil/water separation due to its underwater superoleophobic performance, which could avoid the blockage of the separation membrane by oil effectively, especially high viscosity crude oil. In this manuscript, a layer of ultra-thin Polyacrylamide-Tannic (PAAm-TA) hydrogel coating was coated on the surface of PVDF microfiltration membrane by a simple immersion process, which could endow it with superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic performance. Due to the outstanding superhydrophilic and ultrathin hydrogel coating, the obtained sample showed an ideal emulsion separation efficiency and flux, 99.47% and 1184.3 L/(m 2 h bar) for toluene-in-water emulsion. Additionally, the residual crude oil on the membrane surface can be easily and quickly removed by rinsing with water. Attributed to a variety of chemical and hydrogen bonding and negatively charged groups on the tannic acid molecules, the membranes possess good mechanical stability and electrostatic adsorption properties. The obtained PVDF/PAAm-TA membrane could maintain its special wettability in a wide range of chemical environments, enabling it great potential to be used in complex water treatment. In summary, this study will provide new insights into a new idea and method for the preparation of hydrogel coated porous materials for oil/water separation.

Improving conductivity and optimizing interface contact are two primary targets to promote the development of solid-state electrolytes. Herein, maleic acid (MA) is introduced into normal PVDF-LLZTO(Li 6.75 La 3 Zr 1.75 Ta 0.25 O 12 ) based composite polymer-ceramic electrolytes (CPEs). Benefiting the self-polymerization of MA, a core–shell structure is spontaneously formed with LLZTO as core and MA nano-film as shell, the MA shell builds a bridge to link LLZTO and PVDF. In addition, carboxyl groups in MA provide extra channels for Li + transmission. As a proof, the optimized 25MA-75PVDF-LLZTO CPEs demonstrates an enhanced conductivity as high as 1.15 × 10 -3 S cm −1 at 30 °C, an extended electrochemical window up to < 5.0 V, a raised Li + transfer number of 0.596, and an improved compatibility with Li metal anode. The as-prepared Li‖25MA-75PVDF-LLZTO CPEs‖LiFePO 4 full cell delivers an initial specific discharge capacity of 170.5 mAh g −1 at 0.2C, a high rate capability up to 1.0C with 138 mAh g −1 and an excellent long-term cycling stability of over 180cycles without capacity attenuation. The work provides a new strategy to optimize solid state lithium batteries by introducing unsaturated small organic molecules.

In order to meet the ever-increasing demand for lightweight and flexibility with the development of aeronautics, astronautics and wearable technology , dielectric ceramics are inappropriate for the polymer-based dielectric materials due to their high density. An organic semiconductor material polyethylene glycol-polyaniline multi-alternating block (more than triblock) copolymer (with a low density ∼ 0.9 g/cm 3 ) was designed. This polymer had a good solubility in polar solvents (e.g. DMF and DMSO) which could provide it with a good processing performance and a good dispersion in PVDF matrix. Its alternating block structure had a special role in the charge transport of PANI segments, providing composites with high dielectric constant and overcoming the poor breakdown strength problem of conductive filler-based dielectric composites, even better than BaTiO 3 . The breakdown strength of PEG-PANI/PVDF composite was 10.74 kV/mm and the dielectric constant was 86.64 (100 Hz) at 20 vol%, better than BaTiO 3 /PVDF (9.89 kV/mm and 45.23).

Polymer matrix composites with high thermal conductivity and elastic mechanical properties are promising materials for diverse practical applications. Herein, BN@PDA/GO/PVDF (PG) composite materials with a highly dense thermally conductive network were prepared by combining electrospinning and hot-pressing methods. Dopamine was used to modify hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN). The π–π interaction between the crystal plane structure of h-BN and the benzene ring in the polydopamine (PDA) structure can increase the surface adhesion of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) fibers, thereby reducing the thermal resistance of the interface between the filler and polymer matrix. The contact per unit area was further improved by utilizing graphene oxide (GO) with a large specific surface area to clad the adhered fibers of BN@PDA. The thermal conductivity of PG60 was shown to be as high as 12.04 W/(m·K) owing to the increased density of the heat conduction path. It realizes the heat transfer from a point-to-point to a three-dimensional interconnected structure, implying that a synergistic effect is achieved. Moreover, when the mass ratio of BN@PDA to PVDF was 0.3 (P30), GO was added on the basis of P30. When the mass ratio of GO to BN@PDA was 1:8, PG30 was obtained. PG30 and P30 achieved tensile strengths of 26.65 and 23.38 MPa, respectively. This study provides an approach for designing a highly thermal conductive film with potential applications for the improvement of heat dissipation in electronic devices.

Barium titanate (BaTiO3) is a typical perovskite-type oxide with high dielectric constant, low dielectric loss, and excellent ferroelectric, piezoelectric, pyroelectric, and other properties. In view of the low photogenerated electron-hole separation efficiency of T-BT itself, it is proposed to prepare nanocomposites with good catalytic performance by compound modification with Ag. Considering repeated use, on the basis of powder catalysis, a porous block is prepared by compounding powder and organic polymer PVDF. In this study, the t-BaTiO3/Ag/β-PVDF composite material with porosity of ∼70.4% was prepared with the raw material of PVDF and piezoelectric t-BaTiO3/Ag. The mechanical and piezoelectric photocatalytic properties of the composite material was studied systematically. The piezoelectric coefficient d33 is 1.44 pC/N which can be explained by COMSOL simulation calculation. Moreover, the compressive strength is 1.76 MPa. The degradation MO and RhB results indicated that t-BaTiO3/Ag/β-PVDF composite material had good degradation and cycle stability.
