Pd-decorated V 2 O 5 nanoflowers enable enhanced H2 response and detectable room-temperature sensing. • DRIFTS and DFT reveal catalytic-electronic coupling that promotes H2 dissociation, spillover, and charge transfer. • MEMS-integrated sensors achieve ultralow power consumption of 7.2 mW for portable H2 safety detection. Reliable hydrogen detection under high concentrations and low power consumption is crucial for ensuring safety in industrial environments. Here, we report Pd-decorated V 2 O 5 nanoflowers synthesized via a hydrothermal-impregnation route that achieve a high response of 13.43 to 2000 ppm H 2 at 75 °C—nearly six times that of pristine V 2 O 5 (2.32 at 200 °C)—along with excellent repeatability, selectivity, humidity tolerance, and long-term stability. In situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) measurements reveal the formation of Pd H and V 4+ = O species even at room temperature and density-functional-theory (DFT) calculations indicate enhanced charge transfer and reduced adsorption energy at the Pd/V 2 O 5 interface. These findings confirm a strong catalytic-electronic coupling effect, in which Pd catalyzes hydrogen dissociation and spillover, while interfacial electron redistribution and vacancy-mediated activation dramatically lower the reaction barrier. This synergistic coupling enables sensitive hydrogen sensing at significantly reduced temperatures. Integration of the Pd/V 2 O 5 layer into a Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS) platform yields an ultralow power consumption of 7.2 mW, demonstrating promising potential for miniaturized, energy-efficient hydrogen-sensing technologies.

Rationale Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains one of the most aggressive subtypes due to its poor immunogenicity and resistance to systemic therapies. Methods Here, we report a multifunctional NIR-II light-triggered theranostic nanoplatform, termed LQPO, that integrates liposome, Ti 3 C 2 quantum dots (QDs), perfluorohexane (PFH), and ozone to enable multimodal imaging-guided photo-gas synergistic therapy. The QDs, embedded within the liposomal bilayer, act as highly efficient NIR-II photothermal transducers, while the PFH core serves as a liquid-gas phase-change medium capable of dissolving and releasing ozone under localized heating. Results Upon NIR-II irradiation, LQPO produced strong photothermal and photoacoustic signals for real-time photoacoustic (PA) and contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) imaging, accompanied by vaporization of the PFH core and burst release of ozone. This spatiotemporally coordinated cascade induced potent oxidative stress and hyperthermia, synergistically driving GSDME-dependent pyroptosis and immunogenic cell death (ICD). The resulting “in situ vaccination” effect remodeled the tumor immune microenvironment and primed tumors for PD-1 blockade therapy. In vivo , NIR-II-activated LQPO achieved efficient tumor accumulation, strong PA/CEUS imaging contrast, and pronounced inhibition of both primary and abscopal tumors when combined with αPD-1 therapy. No significant systemic toxicity was observed, confirming its favorable biosafety. Conclusions Overall, this study establishes a single-laser-activated nanoplatform that unifies real-time multimodal imaging and photo-gas synergistic therapy, and converts localized treatment into a systemic antitumor immune response upon integration with checkpoint inhibition.

The geometric interplay in heterogeneous catalysis plays a crucial role in determining the catalytic performance. Based on the stronger affinity of Pd for ceria (CeO 2 ) than for titanium oxide (TiO 2 ) found in this work, we strategically engineered distinct Pd local environments by controlling the architecture of CeO x on TiO 2 through adjusting Ce content. At low Ce content, Pd preferentially assembles onto CeO x islands that are interspersed on TiO 2 ; while at high Ce content, Pd predominantly anchors onto the extensive CeO x surface. The former structure, enriched with CeO x -TiO 2 interface, exhibits superior capability in C-H bond cleavage and O 2 activation, leading to outstanding performance in the oxidation of carbon-containing gases such as light volatile organic compounds (VOCs; e.g., ethane and ethylene) and carbon monoxide (CO). In contrast, the structure dominated by continuous CeO 2 networks shows markedly lower activity. Combined analyses indicate that Pd 2+ species act as the primary active sites, and the consistent activity trend across differently Ce-modified catalysts in VOCs and CO oxidation can be explained by shared mechanistic steps, particularly through common CO and bicarbonate species intermediates. This work provides fundamental insight into the relationship between interfacial geometry and catalytic function.

Interfacial engineering enables Pd 0 /oxygen vacancy balance in Pd/In 2 O 3 . • Hollow In 2 O 3 nanotubes moderate Pd-In 2 O 3 metal-support interaction. • Pd/h-In 2 O 3 achieves 8020 mmol FA mol Pd −1 h −1 for formate production. • Pd 0 retention and defect accessibility jointly govern formate formation. The catalytic performance of oxide-supported Pd catalysts in CO 2 hydrogenation is highly dependent on the interfacial cooperation between metallic Pd 0 sites and defect-containing oxide domains. However, how to regulate this metal-oxide interfacial balance to simultaneously promote H 2 activation and CO 2 -derived intermediate conversion remains insufficiently understood. Herein, we develop an interfacial engineering strategy to regulate the balance between metallic Pd 0 sites and oxygen vacancies (Ov) in Pd/In 2 O 3 catalysts through morphology-dependent metal-support interaction (MSI). Structural analyses reveal that hollow In 2 O 3 nanotubes (h-In 2 O 3 ) effectively moderate Pd-In 2 O 3 interactions, preserve a higher fraction of metallic Pd 0 , and maintain accessible defect-associated oxide domains, thereby establishing a more favorable interfacial configuration than compact counterparts. Consequently, Pd/h-In 2 O 3 delivers the highest formate production rate of 8178 ± 145 mmol FA mol Pd −1 h −1 at 60 °C and 2 MPa, representing a sixfold enhancement over rod-like Pd/In 2 O 3 (Pd/r-In 2 O 3 ), together with excellent stability. These findings highlight that the coordinated regulation of metallic-site preservation and defect accessibility is critical for constructing efficient metal-oxide interfaces for CO 2 hydrogenation to formate. Interfacial engineering optimizes the Pd 0 /Ov balance in Pd/In 2 O 3 by moderating metal-support interaction, enabling high formate productivity (8178 ± 145 mmol FA mol Pd −1 h −1 ) in CO 2 hydrogenation. We report the rational design and precise construction of Y zeolite-encapsulated Pd catalysts featuring coexisting single atoms and clusters (Pd1+n@Y) that enable the efficient and low-temperature total oxidation of propane. Fine tuning of Pd loading and synthesis conditions in a PVP-assisted one-pot hydrothermal approach affords controllable confinement of dual active sites (isolated Pd single atoms and clusters). Catalytic evaluations reveal that Pd1+n@Y exhibits a T90 of only 265 °C, significantly outperforming the single-site counterparts (Pd1@Y and Pdn@Y). Combining density functional theory (DFT) calculations with in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFTS) studies elucidates a stepwise synergistic mechanism wherein Pd single atoms preferentially activate the C–H bond in propane to form alkyl intermediates, while Pd clusters facilitate O2 activation and C–C bond cleavage to complete oxidation. This work establishes a robust “single atom–cluster” synergistic paradigm for designing advanced catalysts for the abatement of light alkanes.

Abstract Although Pd/ZrO2 represents a highly promising catalyst for CO2 hydrogenation, it still faces challenges such as low methanol selectivity and intense competing side reactions. In this study, we precisely constructed an In2O3 interfacial layer between Pd and ZrO2 by atomic layer deposition (denoted as Pd/xIn2O3/ZrO2, where x represents the number of atomic layer deposition cycles) and systematically investigated the role of this interlayer in modulating the catalyst microstructure, reaction pathways, and methanol selectivity. Catalytic performance evaluation results reveal that under reaction conditions of 320 °C and 3 MPa, the Pd/10In2O3/ZrO2 catalyst exhibits the best performance for CO2 hydrogenation to methanol, whereby the methanol selectivity was significantly enhanced from 6.6% to 76.6%, and the methanol space-time yield increased by approximately 6 times (2.40 vs. 13.37 gMeOH·gPd–1·h–1) when compared to pristine Pd/ZrO2 catalyst. Multifaceted characterization and in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy demonstrate that the introduction of In2O3 substantially strengthens CO2 adsorption and activation, promotes further hydrogenation of the key CO* intermediate, and establishes a dual-path synergistic mechanism involving both formate and CO-hydrogenation routes, thereby effectively suppressing the formation of the byproduct CO. Collectively, this work demonstrates that catalyst interface engineering via atomic layer deposition provides an effective strategy for tuning the reaction network and optimizing methanol selectivity in catalytic CO2 hydrogenation systems.

Abstract Selective detection of trace (weakly reducing) dimethyl sulfide (DMS) in highly humid exhaled breath using metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) sensors, with the presence of strong reducing H2S interference gas, is essential for the early diagnosis of hepatic diseases. However, it remains a big challenge in principle. Herein, a bilayer MOS sensor with a Pd–WO3 sensing film and a CuO/Al2O3 filtering overlayer was proposed. The temperature-dependent H2S catalytic oxidation experiment suggests that CuO could effectively filter H2S even under room temperature. Dispersing the CuO particles into insulative Al2O3 carrier could not only selectively remove H2S without significant consumption of DMS but also isolate the underlying Pd–WO3 sensing layer’s response signal from interference caused by that of CuO. By adding the CuO/Al2O3 1:9 filtering overlayer, the response ratio of DMS to H2S was significantly enhanced from 3.3 to 50.4, furthermore, an ultrahigh response (701.3) to 10 ppm DMS, and a low limit of detection of 10 ppb under 90% RH were achieved, which promises the future breath disease diagnosis.

HA@CZ enables acid-responsive local Ca 2+ /Zn 2+ ion therapy. • Zn 2+ impairs Ca 2+ extrusion and drives sustained Ca 2+ overload. • Dual-ion stress induces caspase-1/GSDMD and caspase-3/GSDME pyroptosis. • HA@CZ cascade-induces pyroptosis and activates the STING pathway. • Local HA@CZ treatment sensitizes 4 T1 tumors to PD-1 blockade. Triple-negative breast cancer responds poorly to immune checkpoint blockade, partly because of insufficient tumor-local immune priming. Controlled delivery of bioactive ions offers an opportunity to induce inflammatory tumor cell death while limiting nonspecific systemic exposure. Here, we developed hyaluronic acid-modified, zinc containing calcium carbonate nanoparticles (HA@CZ) for acid-responsive synchronized Ca 2+ /Zn 2+ delivery. HA@CZ remained colloidally stable under physiological conditions but released Ca 2+ and Zn 2+ more rapidly under tumor relevant acidic conditions. HA@CZ markedly promoted intracellular Ca 2+ /Zn 2+ accumulation, induced mitochondrial dysfunction, and triggered gasdermin dependent pyroptosis through the caspase-1/GSDMD and caspase-3/GSDME axes. Mechanistically, the key distinction of HA@CZ does not lie in Ca 2+ overload alone, but in converting Ca 2+ overload from a direct ion burden process into a Zn 2+ initiated Ca 2+ homeostasis collapse mechanism. Zn 2+ impaired mitochondrial energy metabolism and ATP dependent Ca 2+ extrusion, thereby lowering the threshold for sustained Ca 2+ overload after synchronized ion release. The resulting dual ion stress promoted mitochondrial deoxyribonucleic acid leakage and activated cyclic GMP–AMP synthase stimulator of interferon genes signaling, thereby coupling tumor cell pyroptosis with endogenous deoxyribonucleic acid sensing activation. In syngeneic 4 T1 tumor models, HA@CZ suppressed tumor growth after both systemic and local administration, promoted dendritic cell maturation and CD8 + T-cell infiltration, and remodeled the tumor immune microenvironment toward a pro-inflammatory phenotype. Intratumoral studies confirmed its intrinsic therapeutic superiority over free CaCO₃, Zn 2+ , and their physical mixture, while combination with anti-PD-1 therapy enhanced control of both primary and distant tumors. Furthermore, tumor re-challenge experiments demonstrated that HA@CZ induced durable antitumor immune memory. These findings establish HA@CZ as a controlled-release ion nanotherapeutic that couples synchronized Ca 2+ and Zn 2+ delivery to pyroptosis associated immune activation and checkpoint blockade sensitization. Recent advances in immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), particularly those targeting PD-1/PD-L1, have transformed cancer treatment. However, their efficacy is often hampered by the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME). Here, we developed a cantharidin-loaded nanomedicine (CA@TPGS-AmP), composed of D-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS) and naturally derived amphiphilic peptides (AmP), designed to enhance PD-1 blockade via induction of immunogenic cell death (ICD). In vitro, CA@TPGS-AmP markedly improved the solubility of cantharidin and exhibited superior penetration in 3D tumor spheroids. It effectively triggered key ICD events, including calreticulin (CRT) surface exposure, ATP release, and HMGB1 translocation, thereby promoting dendritic cell (DC) maturation. In vivo, CA@TPGS-AmP significantly augmented the antitumor efficacy of PD-1 therapy in 4T1 orthotopic breast cancer and LLC lung cancer models. Mechanistically, the combination therapy remodeled the TME into an immunostimulatory state by increasing CD8+ T cell infiltration and activation, leading to enhanced tumor suppression compared to monotherapies. These findings support CA@TPGS-AmP as a promising adjunct to PD-1 blockade and highlight the potential of natural product-based nanomedicine in advancing cancer immunotherapy.

Reduction of nitric acid reaction (2NO + HNO 3 + 3CH 3 OH → 3CH 3 ONO + 2H 2 O) can convert by-product nitric acid into raw material methyl nitrite in the coal to ethylene glycol (CTEG) technology. This not only realizes the efficient recycling of nitrogen resources but also plays a crucial role in mitigating environmental pollution. Despite being a promising catalyst, the Pd/C catalyst face challenges due to its high metal loading, substantial loss rate, and consequent issues of poor stability, presenting obstacles in meeting industrial requirements. To address this issue, a defect strategy has been employed to develop a low-loaded 0.3% Pd/NC catalyst with robust metal-support interaction, resulting in a significant enhancement of catalyst stability. Remarkably, even after undergoing five cycles, the catalyst maintains a high nitric acid conversion rate of 90%. This improved performance can be attributed to the strong metal-support interaction driven by electron transfer from the nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) substrate to the Pd nanoparticles evident in the Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and inductively coupled plasma (ICP) results. This interaction effectively suppresses the leaching of the active Pd nanoparticles, leading to significantly enhanced stability and a noticeable reduction in the loss rate. Raman spectrum and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) results can further reveal that the increase in the defect density lead to the strong metal-support interaction after nitrogen doping (pyridinic-N-dominated). These findings highlight the significant potential of the Pd/NC catalyst and its applicability in expediting the industrialization process of catalyst. Graphical Abstract

Integrating selective organic transformation and hydrogen (H 2 ) evolution in one photoredox reaction system is one of the most sustainable and promising approaches to efficiently produce solar fuels and chemicals by simultaneously utilizing photogenerated electrons and holes. Herein, through the cation-exchange engineering method, the nanoleaf-like Pd/CdS composites are gingerly fabricated for visible-light-driven receptor-free dehydrogenation of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (THIQ) to 3,4-dihydroisoquinoline (DHIQ) and H 2 under ambient conditions. The optimized electronic structure endows Pd/CdS with a narrow band gap and suitable energy band positions, thus facilitating the light harvesting as well as the separation and transfer of photoexcited charge carriers. Consequently, the Pd/CdS exhibits significantly improved photoredox activity compared to bare CdS . In-situ Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy track the progression of reaction intermediates during such a dual-functional photoredox-catalyzed system, revealing that the carbon-centered radical is the key reaction intermediate in this reaction process. It is anticipated that this work would guide the rational utilization of CdS-based materials to enable simultaneous photochemical coupling of organic transformation and H 2 evolution.
