Deep-blue emission (<450 nm) is significant in high-density information storage, solid-state lighting, and vivid displays. However, the carbon dots (CDs) obtained from p-phenylenediamine (pPD) have only red fluorescence, which greatly limits the application and development of pPD-based CDs. As we all know, a catalyst is a substance that can change the rate and pathway of a chemical reaction. Herein, we designed to add a catalyst to realize the conversion of pPD-based CDs from red to deep-blue fluorescence. The emission peak of obtained deep-blue CDs was 440 nm, and the full-width at half-maximum (FWHM) was only 58 nm, with a high color purity. In addition, through in-depth analysis of microstructure and photoluminescence (PL) properties, it is found that the decrease of the sp 2 -conjugated domain and the graphite N content and the increase in pyridinic N content were the main reasons for the blue shift of the spectra. Based on this, the formation process and mechanism of red and deep-blue CDs were further elucidated. This work not only efficiently realized the design of the deep-blue CDs but also provided a new idea for the luminescence regulation of CDs without changing the raw materials and reaction conditions.

Highly active and stable electrocatalysts are highly desired for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in water electrolysis. In this study, a ruthenium-ruthenium phosphide heterojunction (Ru-Ru 2 P) anchored on phosphorus-doped graphene (PCSG) was fabricated via a mild molten salt template method. The graphene was synthesized from discarded coconut shells sourced from Hainan. We found that the heterojunction structure could accelerate electron transfer, while the graphene provided more exposed active sites, significantly enhancing the HER activity of the catalyst. The catalyst prepared at 800 °C with 30 mg of RuCl 3 (Ru-Ru 2 P/2D-PCSG-800) exhibited low HER overpotentials of 31 mV in alkaline and 57 mV in acidic electrolytes at a current density of 10 mA cm −2 , respectively, which were comparable to those of commercial 20 % Pt/C catalyst (36 mV in alkaline and 40 mV in acidic electrolytes). Moreover, the catalyst demonstrated high stability with no significant change in current density after 125 hours of operation. Density functional theory calculations revealed that the Ru-Ru 2 P heterojunction could rearrange charge and modify the Ru d -band center, optimizing the adsorption energy of active *H (|ΔG *H |) and breakage energy of *H-OH bond (ΔG H2O ).

In this work, Cu nanosphere-anchored Cu-based MOF derivants were synthesized by high-temperature calcination using Cu(BDC) as precursors and then combined with gold nanoparticles to give AuNPs/Cu/C composites. The proposed materials were characterized by SEM, XRD, XPS, FTIR, and EIS. Based on these composites, a sensor was constructed, which showed good electrocatalytic activities to the redox of acetaminophen (PA) and P-aminophenol (4-AP) and could be used to detect them simultaneously. Under optimal experimental conditions, the linear ranges for detection of PA and 4-AP were 0.50–150.00 and 0.50–120.00 μM with the detection limits of 0.056 and 0.084 μM, respectively. Thanks to the hierarchical and porous structural characteristics of the Cu/C material and its synergistic effect with AuNPs, it shows good sensing performance in the simultaneous detection of PA and 4-AP. The sensor has wider linear ranges, lower detection limits, good selectivities, and higher accuracies with potential environmental detection application prospects.

Transition metal phosphides (TMPs) have gained widespread applications in the field of electrochemical energy storage. However, controlled morphology and multi-site dynamic activation remain challenging. Herein, a thin-walled, hollow, and porous ternary Co–Ni–Mn metal phosphide was synthesized on carbon cloth (CC/CoNiMn–P) via a mixed-solvent-assisted etching method combined with gas-phase phosphidation, using Co-MOF and CoNiMn(OH)2 triangular nanosheet arrays as templates. The mild phosphating process maintained the hollow porous structure of the master plate. The DFT calculation further demonstrated that the hollow conformal phosphide improved the adsorption of OH− to the electrode, thereby increasing the conductivity and thermal stability. Combined with the synergistic effect of ternary metals, the electrode showed a high specific capacity 2247 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1, and excellent rate performance (with 90.2% retention at 8 A g−1). When used in hybrid supercapacitors (HSCs), the CC/CoNiMn–P-500//AC HSC achieves a high energy density of 45.7 W h kg−1 at a power density of 344.8 W kg−1, with a capacitance retention of 84.3% after 10 000 cycles. This work provides a novel approach for constructing electrode materials with well-defined hierarchical structures for supercapacitor and energy storage applications.

Superhydrophilic/submerged superoleophobic cotton fabrics with antibacterial properties were obtained by loading SiO 2 nanoparticles and Ag + on the surface of cotton fabrics through SiO 2 –Ag + composite sols, followed by the modification of the cotton fabrics with dopamine methacrylamide (DMA) and [2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide (SBMA). The surface morphology and wettability of the modified fabrics were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis (TG), and contact angle measurement. The underwater contact angle and surface wettability analysis showed that the modified cotton fabric had an underwater oil contact angle of 166.5°. The prepared fabric can be used as an effective medium for the gravity-driven separation of oil/water mixtures. The modified fabrics showed resistance to sparing of vegetable oils or different organic solvents, and the average separation efficiency was better than 93% for all types of oil/water mixtures and up to 97%. In addition, the modified fabrics successfully inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus with excellent antimicrobial properties.

Photocatalysis can directly convert solar energy into chemical energy, has shown unique advantages in solving environmental and energy problems. In this paper, novel UiO-66/p-BN (UBN) heterojunction photocatalysts were successfully prepared by a simple solvothermal method. UBN-6 achieved a degradation efficiency of up to 93.8 % for 30 mg/L tetracycline under 180 min of visible light irradiation, which was 2.46 and 3.25 times higher than that of pure UiO-66 and p-BN, respectively. The enhancement of UBN photocatalytic activity stemmed from the incorporation of p-BN, which increased the specific surface area to expose more active sites, broadened the visible light absorption range, and promoted the separation of photogenerated carriers through the formation of heterojunctions. Free radical trapping experiments showed that ·O 2 - , ·OH and h + played important roles in the photocatalytic degradation of tetracycline pollutants. In addition, the photocatalytic mechanism of UBN was revealed by analyzing the degradation intermediates of TC by LC-MS. This work provides an effective strategy for designing visible light responsive photocatalysts to degrade pollutants.

Inflammation is the main driver of the aggravation of arteriosclerosis, and the complex inflammatory response in plaque is usually the result of the interaction of various cells and cytokines. Therefore, it is difficult to comprehensively regulate the inflammatory process of arteriosclerosis by intervening a single target, resulting in the poor effect of existing treatment method. Based on our clinical findings that P-selectin stably and highly expressed in patients’ plaque endothelial cells, the programmed prodrug, low molecular weight heparin-indomethacin nanoparticles (LI NPs), were established as anti-inflammatory agent to multiphase inhibit arteriosclerosis by cascade interference of P-selectin. Structurally, LI NPs was obtained by simple esterification of low molecular weight heparin and indomethacin without any additives, guaranteeing the biocompatibility and applicability of LI NPs. Functionally, LI NPs could interfere with P-selectin in the inflammatory process, such as inhibiting macrophage adhesion, reducing the secretion of inflammatory factors, and inducing macrophage apoptosis. In the arteriosclerosis mice model, LI NPs significantly reduced the plaque area and showed satisfactory curative effect, which is related to the intervention of the multiphase inflammation between endothelial cells and macrophages. In conclusion, the programmed prodrug LI NPs offered a promising approach for the clinical therapy of arteriosclerosis.

Piezoelectric poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene) has demonstrated an ability to promote osteogenesis, and biomaterials with a chirality-patterned topological surface could enhance cellular osteogenic differentiation. In this work, we created a chirality-patterned surface potential distribution of CoFe2O4/poly(vinylidene fluoride-trifluoroethylene (CFO/P(VDF-TrFE)) membranes to explore their osteogenic response under no change in surface chemical and topology, attempting to further strengthen the ability of the membranes to promote osteogenesis. The chirality-patterned surface potential distribution was established by microdomain contact polarization with the help of sinistral/dextral-patterned ITO interdigital microelectrodes. In the in vitro evaluations, the mesenchymal stem cells showed a positive response in osteogenic differentiation to CFO/P(VDF-TrFE) membranes with both sinistral- and dextral-patterned surface potential distributions, however, the dextral-patterned distribution gave a stronger response than the sinistral-patterned one. And the in vivo evaluation showed a response tend in new bone tissue formation similar to the in vitro evaluations. The stronger response in osteogenic differentiation and osteogenesis for the CFO/P(VDF-TrFE) membrane with the dextral-patterned distributions may be attributed to that the intense interaction of the cells with the electrophysiological microenvironment appears due to a correspondingly higher expression of integrin α5β1, which significantly up-regulates the Arp2/3 complex expression, a crucial factor for cytoskeleton reorganization, possibly increases cytoskeleton contractility, and strengthens the transduction of the osteogenesis-related signaling cascade. This work proves that the chirality-patterns in surface potential distributions could provide an osteogenic response similar to a chirality-patterned topological surface.

Development of highly-efficient heterostructured photocatalysts capable of fully utilizing full solar spectrum has emerged as a focal point in photocatalytic H 2 evolution from water splitting. Herein, Mn 0.2 Cd 0.8 S/MoSe 2 composite was successfully constructed by attaching full-spectrum responsive MoSe 2 nanospheres on surface of Mn 0.2 Cd 0.8 S polyhedra via in-situ hydrothermal process. The optimal Mn 0.2 Cd 0.8 S/MoSe 2 -5wt% composite photocatalyst yielded the H 2 evolution rate of 34.31 mmol g –1 h –1 under full-spectrum light, significantly surpassing the activities obtained under near-infrared (NIR), ultraviolet (UV), visible (Vis), Vis-NIR and UV-Vis light alone. This outstanding property could be attributed to the synergetic effects of p−n heterojunction and photothermal effect, effectively accelerating interfacial charge transfer, elevating reaction system's temperature and expediting surface reaction, thereby promoting the photocatalytic reaction of Mn 0.2 Cd 0.8 S. This study offers a valuable perspective on utilizing MoSe 2 to construct an efficient photothermal-assisted photocatalysis system.

The electrodeposition of Ni–P–PTFE nanocomposites offers an effective approach to reduce mold–polymer interface adhesion and improve the replication of polymer micro features in injection molding. However, it is still challenging to fabricate Ni–P–PTFE nanocomposites with low internal stress and nanoscale surface roughness in electrolytes containing high PTFE concentrations. In this study, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide was introduced into the electrolytes to achieve a good dispersion of PTFE nanoparticles. Ni–P–PTFE nanocomposites with various compositions were successfully electrodeposited, and their tribological properties were analyzed. The electroformed Ni–P–PTFE nanocomposites with high PTFE and phosphorus contents showed a low surface roughness and surface energy compared to nickel electrodeposits. Ni–P–PTFE nanocomposites also exhibited a low coefficient of friction (COF) and wear loss when electroformed from an electrolyte containing 32 g/L phosphorus acid and 5 g/L PTFE nanoparticle. The COF of Ni–P–PTFE against stainless steel and poly(methyl methacrylate) was 0.2 and 0.12, respectively, representing a decrease of 80% and 85% compared to nickel electrodeposits. These enhancements in self-lubricating performances were primarily attributed to the low surface roughness and a shift in wear modes from adhesive wear to predominantly mild abrasive wear.

FeVO 4 is recognized as a potential photoelectrode material on account of its relatively narrow bandgap and suitable conduction and valence band positions. However, its photoelectrochemical water splitting performance remains unsatisfactory owing to rapid carrier recombination and poor charge transport capabilities. Herein, a novel p-n FeVO 4 /AgVO 3 heterostructure photoanode was developed by depositing p-type AgVO 3 nanowires onto n-type FeVO 4 nanoporous structures, boosting the PEC properties of the base material. The incorporated AgVO 3 nanostructures enhance light absorption in the visible spectrum, facilitate effective electron-hole separation through optimized interfacial charge transport pathways, and simultaneously extend the carrier lifetime. The built-in electric field in the p-n heterostructure promotes more effective separation and directional motion of photoinduced charge carriers. As a result, the transient photocurrent density of the FeVO 4 /AgVO 3 heterojunction photoanode reaches 0.22 mA cm −2 , which is 3.35 times that of bare FeVO 4 (0.06 mA cm −2 ). Notably, the incorporation of AgVO 3 nanowires significantly improves the photostability of the FeVO 4 photoanode. This work provides a feasible strategy from the perspective of interface engineering for designing high-performance FeVO 4 -based photoelectrodes to enhance photoconversion efficiency.

p -Cresol has been identified as a key odorant that is responsible for the characteristic flavor of fermented bamboo shoots. Although it is known to play a significant role in bamboo shoot fermentation, the microbial sources and biosynthetic pathways of p -cresol is still poorly characterized. The relationship between the microbiota and flavor profiles in fermented bamboo shoots was systematically investigated in this study via metagenomics and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS). The results demonstrated that Lactobacillus and Kazachstania represented the dominant microbial genera, with Lactobacillus acetotolerans identified as the most abundant bacterial species. Phenols and acids were identified as the primary flavor components, and p -cresol was found to be the dominant flavor compound. Correlation analysis was further found to reveal significant positive associations between specific microorganisms (e.g., L. acetotolerans ) and key flavor compounds (including p- cresol). The formation of the main characteristic flavors in fermented bamboo shoots was closely associated with carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism pathways. Tyrosine was first converted to 4-hydroxyphenylacetate via transamination, followed by subsequent decarboxylation to p -cresol catalyzed by the enzyme 4-hydroxyphenylacetate decarboxylase. This study provides insights into the microbial mechanisms underlying the formation of the stinky flavor in fermented bamboo shoots.
