ApoE, a glycoprotein, is a structural component of very low density lipoprotein (vLDL) synthesized by the liver and intestinally synthesized chylomicrons . ApoE is also a constituent of a subclass of high density of lipoproteins (HDL) involved in cholesterol transport .ApoE mediates high affinity binding of chylomicrons and vLDL particles to the LDL receptor, allowing for specific uptake of these particles by the liver, preventing the accumulation of cholesterol rich particles in the plasma .Apolipoprotein E combines with fats (lipids) in the body to form molecules called lipoproteins and Apolipoprotein E is a major component of a specific type of lipoprotein called very low-density lipoproteins (VLDLs). Mediates the binding, internalization, and catabolism of lipoprotein particles. It can serve as a ligand for the LDL (apo B/E) receptor and for the specific apo-E receptor (chylomicron remnant) of hepatic tissues.
Post-translational: Synthesized with the sialic acid attached by O-glycosidic linkage and is subsequently desialylated in plasma. O-glycosylated with core 1 or possibly core 8 glycans. Thr-307 is a minor glycosylation site compared to Ser-308. Glycated in plasma VLDL of normal subjects, and of hyperglycemic diabetic patients at a higher level (2-3 fold). Phosphorylation sites are present in the extracelllular medium.

Immobilized Human ApoE at 5μg/mL (100 μL/well) can bind Human TREM2 with a linear range of 0.6-65 ng/mL .
Recombinant Human Apolipoprotein E3 Protein (rp142912) - SDS-PAGE 2 μg/lane of Recombinant Human Apolipoprotein E3 Protein was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) and non-reducing (N) conditions and visualized by Coomassie® Blue staining, showing the band at 30 - 36 kDa under reducing conditions and 30 - 36 & 80 kDa under non-reducing conditions. APOE exists as multiple glycosylated and sialylated glycoforms within cells and in plasma (PubMed:29516132). The protein has a calculated MW of 35 kDa. The protein migrates as 30 - 36 kDa under reducing (R) condition due to glycosylation.
