An innovative method for carbendazim (CBZ) detection was developed, consisting of an electrochemical-fluorescence dual-mode biosensor based on magneto-fluorescent composite M-CDs. M-CDs, as the fluorescent probe of this sensor, could combine the electrical signal-ferrocene to achieve the “signal switching” by specifically recognizing CBZ through aptamers, of which magnetic property was used to quickly separate from complex substrates without interference. The dual-mode sensor based on M-CDs demonstrated excellent linear responses in both electrochemical and fluorescence assays. It achieved detection ranges of 10 fg/mL − 300 ng/mL and 60 fg/mL – 100 ng/mL with detection limits (LODs) of 1.4 fg/mL and 2.3 fg/mL. The sensor exhibited exceptional detection performance, stability and anti-interference. In addition, the results of the sensor in actual samples were consistent with those of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), which further demonstrated that the sensor could accurately trace detecting CBZ in real samples and had a certain application prospect.

This work describes, for the first time, an acryloyled β -cyclodextrin hybrid monolith column was synthesized, under aqueous-phase conditions, and used for solid-phase microextraction of carbendazim and carbaryl . The monolithic column was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, nitrogen adsorption–desorption, thermogravimetric analysis and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and used as the adsorbent for solid phase microextraction (SPME) of carbendazim and carbaryl. After optimization of the SPME conditions, a simple and sensitive SPME-HPLC method was developed for the determination of carbendazim and carbaryl in leafy vegetables. The method exhibited a good liner response in the range 5–400 μg/kg (R 2 = 0.9994) for carbendazim and 10–400 μg/kg (R 2 = 0.9996) for carbaryl, respectively. The limits of detection were 1.0 and 1.5 μg/kg for carbendazim and carbaryl, respectively, in leafy vegetables. Recoveries ranged from 92.6% to 110.1%, and the relative standard deviations were less than 6.1%.

A sensitive carbendazim (CBZ) electrochemical sensor was designed by using Super-P carbon (SPCN) black@zeolitic-imidazolate-framework-8 (SPCN@ZIF-8) nanocomposite modified glassy carbon electrode (SPCN@ZIF-8/GCE). SPCN with pearl-chain nanostructure presented an integrated highly conductive carbon network, which significantly improved the charge transfer efficiency. ZIF-8 nanoparticles possessed high porosity and large specific surface area, which helped to realize the increasement of adsorption ability and accumulation capacity towards CBZ. Moreover, SPCN with excellent conductivity property not only inhibited the agglomeration of ZIF-8 nanoparticles but also compensated the non-conductive property of ZIF-8 nanoparticles. The functional integration of SPCN and ZIF-8 nanoparticles remarkably enhanced the electrochemical detection performance of the SPCN@ZIF-8/GCE sensor towards CBZ. A simple and sensitive CBZ detection could be achieved at the fabricated SPCN@ZIF-8/GCE sensor with low limit of detection of 7.79 nM (CBZ concentration: 0.01–30 μM). Moreover, the fabricated sensor showed good repeatability, reproducibility, and anti-interference performance. When used for the analysis of CBZ in real samples (tomato juice and apple juice), the SPCN@ZIF-8/GCE sensor showed good CBZ detection performance with acceptable recoveries of 99.1%–102.6% and low RSD values of 2.21%–3.27%. This work demonstrated that the SPCN@ZIF-8/GCE sensor may be a promising sensing platform for the rapid and sensitive detection of CBZ residue.

Repeated and high-dose carbendazim applications have caused serious soil carbendazim contamination, and eco-friendly and economical approaches have been suggested to promote carbendazim removal in agricultural soil . Spent mushroom substrate (SMS) is a special recycled resource after harvesting mushrooms and can be utilized in contaminated soil amendment. The SMS application into agricultural soil might increase antibiotic resistance gene abundances, and the health risks of SMS application might be reduced with reasonable management to adjust the related electron transport of soil nitrification or denitrification. In this study, the SMS and nitrification inhibitor dicyandiamide were used to remediate agricultural soil contaminated with the carbendazim, and the carbendazim contents, soil microbial biomass, activities and community and human disease genes were determined. Compared to the control treatment, the combined applications of SMS and dicyandiamide significantly decreased soil carbendazim content by 38.14% but significantly enhanced soil β -glucosidase, chitinase, arylsulfatase, urease and electron transfer system activities. The relative abundances of Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria were increased by 11.0% and 8.2% with the SMS application, respectively. The carbendazim residues were negatively correlated with the soil pH, electron transfer system activities and relative abundances of Proteobacteria and Actinobacteria. The relative abundances of human disease genes were also dramatically increased with the SMS application, but compared to the SMS alone, extra dicyandiamide application significantly reduced the relative abundances of human disease genes in soils. The SMS applications into fungicide-contaminated soils could generate double-edged sword effects of facilitating fungicide dissipation but leading to potential health risk increase, while applying the dicyandiamide with SMS might be an effective strategy to decrease the negative effect of health risk.

Multiple detection based on lateral flow immunoassay (LFA) holds significant research importance across various fields. Recently, the use of multi-color surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) nanotags has enabled simultaneous detection of multiple targets within a single test line (T-line) in LFA , greatly enhancing detection efficiency, reliability, and application flexibility. However, challenges regarding signal overlap in the Raman-fingerprint region (400–1800 cm −1 ) and the difficulty in determining specific targets based on typical color analysis have persisted. In this study, we developed two types of nanoprobes that encode both color and Raman information to address these challenges in simultaneous multiple detection on a single T-line in SERS-LFA. The nanoprobes were encoded with distinguishable blue and red colors, respectively, enabling colorimetric study in multiplex LFA for qualitative analysis. Additionally, they were encoded with distinctive and non-overlapping Raman signals in the Raman-silent region (1800–2800 cm −1 ), ensuring accurate and sensitive detection by effectively avoiding interference from each other as well as background signals in the sample matrix. Using carbendazim (CBZ) and imidacloprid (IMI) as model targets, the color- and Raman-encoded SERS-LFA demonstrated promising potential for the simultaneous detection of CBZ and IMI in both standard and real samples, whether in a colorimetric or a SERS mode.

Precisely detecting trace pesticides and their residues in food products is crucial for ensuring food safety. Herein, a high-performance electrochemical sensing platform was developed for the detection of carbendazim (CBZ) using Co,N co-doped hollow carbon nanocage@carbon nanotubes (Co,N-HC@CNTs) obtained from core–shell ZIF-8@ZIF-67 combined with a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). The Co,N-HC@CNTs exhibited excellent electrocatalytic performance, benefitting from the synergistic effect of CNTs that provide a large specific surface area and excellent electrical conductivity , Co,N co-doped carbon nanocages that offer high electrocatalytic activity and hollow nanocage structures that ensure rapid diffusion kinetics. The conductive PEDOT-MIP provided specific binding sites for CBZ detection and significantly amplified the detection signal. The sensor showed superior selectivity for CBZ with an extremely low detection limit of 1.67 pmol L −1 . Moreover, the method was successfully applied to detect CBZ in tomato, orange and apple samples, achieving satisfactory recovery and accuracy, thus demonstrating its practical feasibility.

High-sensitive fluorescence biomimetic sensor for CBZ is developed. • Ni-MOF is combined with specific adsorption capacity of MIP. • Ni-MOF@MIP probe shows high specificity and sensing sensitivity for CBZ. • Adsorption capacity of Ni-MOF@MIP for CBZ has good stability. A novel fluorescence biomimetic sensor with high selectivity and sensitivity for the detection of carbendazim (CBZ) in fruits, vegetables and grains is established. This sensor is assembled from nickel-based metal-organic framework (Ni-MOF) and molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP). Here, Ni-MOF serves as the fluorescent signal source and carrier, and MIP is coated on the surface of Ni-MOF as a biomimetic recognition element for CBZ to prepare Ni-MOF@MIP probe. The fluorescence of Ni-MOF@MIP will be quenched after adding CBZ, and the fluorescence difference can be applied to realize the quantitative detection of CBZ. The sensor shows wide linear range of 0.01 to 5.00 × 10 3 μg/L ( R 2 = 0.996), and the detection limit (LOD) is 8.4 × 10 −3 μg/L (S/N = 3). The recovery of CBZ in spiked fruits, vegetables and grains has been confirmed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The fluorescent sensor provides a promising strategy for the detection of CBZ residue in fruit, vegetable and grain samples. Carbendazim (CBZ) abuse always causes the over-standard of pesticide residues in agricultural products, which has adverse effects on human health. Herein, a novel electrochemical sensor was firstly fabricated based on the β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) functionalized carbon nanosheets@carbon nanotubes (CNS@CNT) for the CBZ determination. CNS@CNT combined large surface area of CNS and excellent electrical conductivity of CNT, which significantly enhanced the electrocatalytic performance. Moreover, β-CD possessed excellent host-gest supramolecular recognition ability, which could improve the selective recognition and enrichment capability of CBZ. Thanks to the synergistic interaction of CNS@CNT and β-CD, the β-CD/CNS@CNT/GCE sensor exhibited a low limit of detection of 9.4 nM in the linear CBZ concentration range of 0.03–30 μM. The fabricated sensor presented favorable stability, high sensitivity (30.86 μA μM −1 cm −2 ), and reliable reproducibility (RSD = 3.6%). Especially, the β-CD/CNS@CNT/GCE sensor could show pretty practical feasibility for the detection of CBZ in apple juice with recoveries of 97.1%-99.4%.

A novel fluorescence application for simultaneous determination of two common fungicide pesticides (carbendazim and chlorothalonil) in peanut oil is presented. Using the strategy of combining excitation-emission matrix (EEM) fluorescence with three-way calibration methods , the proposed approach successfully achieved quantitative analysis of carbendazim and chlorothalonil pesticide residues in peanut oil, even with highly overlapped spectra. It needs little preparation, using “mathematical separation” instead of “analytical separation” to achieve concentration prediction of target analytes in complex systems. Each analyte was performed using fluorescence spectroscopy after instrument spectral correction and scatter removal. Then the data were modeled with two three-way calibration algorithms, including alternating trilinear decomposition (ATLD) and alternating penalty trilinear decomposition (APTLD). The results indicated that APTLD performed slightly better than ATLD for this system. The carbendazim and chlorothalonil can be recognized simultaneously with the correlation coefficients all above 0.96 between resolved spectra and actual spectra. Satisfactory results have been achieved with the average recoveries (mean ± standard deviation) of carbendazim and chlorothalonil being 100.2 ± 6.7% and 99.7 ± 6.7%, respectively. Moreover, as for carbendazim and chlorothalonil, the sensitivity (SENs) are 1.50 × 10 2 and 3.80 × 10 2 mL ng −1 , the limits of detection (LODs) are 11 ng mL −1 and 4.3 ng mL −1 , the limit of quantitation (LOQ) are 33.33 ng mL −1 and 13.03 ng mL −1 , respectively. The above results demonstrated that the proposed method is sensitive, fast and accurate for direct quantitative analysis of multiple pesticide residues in complex matrix such as that of peanut oil.

Electrochemical nanozyme sensor coupled with machine learning (ML) for intelligent analysis of carbendazim (CBZ) residues in tea and rice samples using graphene-like molybdenum disulfide (MoS 2 )/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) porous nanohybrid network with oxidase-like characteristic was developed. MoS 2 /MWCNTs porous nanohybrid network was prepared by ultrasonic dispersion of MWCNTs into MoS 2 aqueous dispersion that was obtained by ultrasonic-assisted dispersion in sodium carboxymethyl cellulose water solution, which displayed low electron transfer resistance, high effective surface area, excellent film electrode stability. Machine learning via the artificial neural network for the intelligent analysis of CBZ was discussed in comparison with traditional regression analysis. Good electrocatalytic capacity, unique oxidase-like characteristic, wide linear range with 0.04–100 μM, low limit of detection with 7.4 nM, high sensitivity, and satisfactory practicability for CBZ demonstrated that electrochemical nanozyme sensor for the intelligent analysis of CBZ residues in edible agro-products was feasible. This will provide a new electrochemical sensing platform for the development of a graphene-like nanozyme sensor and its intelligent analysis of CBZ in food and agro-product safety.

Fungicide carbendazim accumulation in soils and plants is a wide concern. Nitrogen (N) is a substantial nutrient limiting crop growth and affecting soil microbial activity and the community in degrading fungicides. We investigated the effects of urea-hydrogen peroxide (UHP) and nitrification inhibitors Dicyandiamide (DCD) and 3,4-dimethylpyrazole phosphate (DMPP) on carbendazim accumulation and soil and endophytic microbial communities. The UHP application had negligible influences on soil and plant carbendazim accumulation, but the combined UHP and DCD decreased soil carbendazim accumulation by 5.31% and the combined UHP and DMPP decreased plant carbendazim accumulation by 44.36%. The combined UHP and nitrification inhibitor significantly decreased the ratios of soil Firmicutes and endophytic Ascomycota. Soil microbial community assembly was governed by the stochastic process, while the stochastic and deterministic processes governed the endophyte. Our findings could provide considerable methods to reduce fungicide accumulation in soil–plant systems with agricultural N management strategies.

The authors describe a nanomaterial for solid-phase extraction of carbendazim. Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymer nanoparticles (mag-MIP-NPs) were obtained by immobilizing the MIP and a thiolated β-cyclodextrin on the surface of magnetite (Fe 3 O 4 ) nanoparticles coated with gold nanoparticles. Both the recognition sites of the MIP and the hydrophobic cavities in the β-cyclodextrin contribute to the specific molecular recognition and extraction of carbendazim. The mag-MIP-NPs have an apparent adsorption capacity of 190 mg⋅g‾ 1 . Spiked vegetables were analyzed by using this material for extraction of carbendazim prior to its determination by ultra performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Recoveries range from 90.5 % to 109 %, and the detection limit is 3.0 pg⋅mL‾ 1 .
