Electrochemical detection sensor is designed with bionic papillary array structure. • Unique structure significantly increases the internal oxygen vacancy concentration. • The sensor enables the simultaneous and selective detection of glucose and H 2 O 2 . • The sensor offers wide detection range and achieve precise analysis in human blood. Designing an electrochemical sensor with high sensitivity and the ability to simultaneously detect multiple biomarkers is a challenging and significant research. Inspired by the water collection function of cactus papillary structures, a high-performance sensor (MCeO 2 @γFe 2 O 3 sensor) featuring a sponge-like nanoporous architecture and a bionic papillary array was constructed based on the CeO 2 @γFe 2 O 3 composite structure with lattice shap. The composite structure has transition metal carbide (MXene) as the framework and CeO 2 @γFe 2 O 3 composite nanoparticles as attachments. The sensor exhibits enhanced redox reaction activity, which is attributed to the combination of its unique microstructure and the substantial increase in oxygen vacancy concentration within the crystal lattice following recombination. This contributes to its superior detection performance in comparison to conventional electrochemical detection sensors. Its sensitivity is 11.0 mA mM −1 cm −2 (glucose detection) and 1.10 mA μM −1 cm −2 (H 2 O 2 detection). It features the low limit of detection (glucose: 0.25 μM, H 2 O 2 : 0.010 nM) and the ultra-wide linear detection range (glucose: 1.0 mM–40.0 mM, H 2 O 2 : 0.10 nM-1.0 × 10 2 μM), which can meet the needs of blood glucose and H 2 O 2 level detection. In addition, the sensor is capable of simultaneously detecting glucose and H 2 O 2 , demonstrating excellent selectivity, consistency, durability (300 cycles) and the potential to achieve accurate detection in the human blood environment. This study proposes a novel strategy for the development of an integrated high-performance sensor that enables simultaneous multi-biomarker detection, opening new avenues for innovation in blood testing technology. Two covalent organic framework (COF) materials—TAPA-TFPB-COF and TAPA-BTT-COF—were synthesized through Schiff-base condensation reactions, and their catalytic performance in the luminol-H 2 O 2 cathodic electrochemiluminescence (ECL) system was systematically investigated. The results demonstrated that TAPA-BTT-COF exhibited superior peroxidase-like activity, which could effectively catalyze the decomposition of H 2 O 2 to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) and significantly enhance the ECL intensity. Based on this catalytic mechanism, a highly sensitive and selective method for the detection of tyrosine (Tyr) was established, with a linear detection range from 1.0 × 10 − 8 to 1.0 × 10 − 4 mol L − 1 and a detection limit as low as 6.2 × 10 − 10 mol L − 1 . This study innovatively explored and utilized the intrinsic enzyme-like activity of COF materials as a substitute for traditional biological enzymes to construct a stable, cost-effective, and ultrasensitive enzyme-free ECL sensing platform, which might further expand the biosensing application of COF materials.

Fenton-like oxidation is a widely used advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) for the removal of persistent organic compounds. However, its development is significantly constrained by low H 2 O 2 utilization, the loss of transition metal ions, and the presence of harsh acidic conditions. Herein, a catalyst composed of MgO supported on porous P-doped graphitic C 3 N 4 (P-CN) was fabricated using a straightforward stepwise calcination process. The catalyst exhibited excellent performance in catalyzing the degradation of tetracycline (TC) through activated H 2 O 2 in the dark. The maximum reaction rate constant of the synthesized catalyst for TC degradation was 0.034 min −1 , which was nearly 62 times that of MgO and 18 times that of CN. The enhancement of catalytic properties was attributed to the doping of g-C 3 N 4 by P and the N-Mg bonds formed between g-C 3 N 4 and MgO, which not only enhanced charge transfer capabilities but also promoted the conversion of H 2 O 2 into 1 O 2 , •OH, and •O 2 − , thereby benefiting the degradation of pollutants. The effects of various parameters, including catalyst dosage, pH level, common interfering substances, and H 2 O 2 and TC concentrations, on degradation efficiency were examined in detail, and the ecological risk associated with the catalytic degradation of TC was predicted. In addition, the MgO/P-CN catalyst exhibited high stability, low H 2 O 2 consumption, and a broad pH range, had no transition metal components, and did not require an external energy input, demonstrating potential for the removal of organic pollutants and toxic waste.

An enzymatic electrochemiluminescence (ECL) sensor based on a ternary luminol system is developed for highly sensitive detection of uric acid (UA). The platform integrates nanochannel-confined platinum nanoparticle (PtNPs) and nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dot (NGQDs) nanocomposites (PtNPs–NGQDs) as coreaction accelerators, with urate oxidase (Uox) covalently immobilized at the nanochannel entrances. In this design, an amino-functionalized vertically ordered mesoporous silica film (NH2-VMSF) confined the PtNPs–NGQDs within its nanochannels, while Uox is attached to the outer surface. The confined PtNPs–NGQDs exhibit a synergistic catalytic effect, amplifying the ECL signal of the luminol–H2O2 system by 16.1-fold. In the presence of UA, immobilized Uox catalyzes its oxidation to generate H2O2, which is subsequently decomposed by the PtNPs–NGQDs nanocomposite, leading to enhanced ECL emission. Under optimized conditions, the sensor exhibits two linear response ranges for UA (0.01–1 µM and 1–50 µM) and a low detection limit of 8.1 nM (S/N = 3). The sensor also demonstrates good selectivity and stability, enabling reliable UA quantification in complex urine samples. This work provides a simple and versatile strategy for constructing sensitive ECL enzymatic platforms suitable for the detection of metabolites.

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), as a crucial intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and secondary messenger, plays a key role in various physiological and pathological processes. Therefore, accurate detection of H2O2 is of great significance for investigating disease mechanisms. In this study, a novel fluorescence and colorimetric dual-mode probe, Re-FS, was designed and synthesized based on a resorufin (Re) scaffold, employing a pentafluorobenzenesulfonyl (FS) group as the recognition moiety. Upon reaction with H2O2, the FS group undergoes a nucleophilic substitution reaction, releasing Re and triggering a fluorescence “turn-on” response accompanied by a distinct color change. The detection limits were determined to be 5 µM for the fluorescence mode and 10 µM for UV-vis mode, both exhibiting a linear range of 0–1 mM. Benefiting from the strong electron-withdrawing effect of the fluorine atoms in the FS group, the probe demonstrates excellent selectivity against various potential interferents. It has been successfully applied for the effective sensing and imaging of H2O2 in serum and living cell environments. Furthermore, the visible color transition of the probe solution facilitates the development of a portable H2O2 visual detection platform based on smartphone RGB analysis. This dual-mode detection strategy enables cross-validation of results, providing a promising tool for monitoring neurodegenerative diseases.

The inherent inefficiency associated with the utilization of micro-concentration hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) in conventional Fenton systems arises from the sluggish cycling between Fe(III) and Fe(II). To address this fundamental limitation, the present study demonstrates that complexes formed between Fe(III) and fulvic acid (FA) can effectively harness visible-light-driven ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT). This photochemical process facilitates a synergistic dual-pathway activation of H 2 O 2 : 1) Fe(II) generated through intramolecular electron transfer reduction of the Fe(III)-FA complex directly activated H 2 O 2 ; 2) In the photoexcited *Fe(III)-FA complex, the reduction of the key intermediate *OOH lowered the activation energy barrier, facilitating the formation of ∙OH and O 2 ·- radicals. Moreover, at a stoichiometric molar ratio of H 2 O 2 to contaminant set at 1:1, contaminant removal efficiency achieves an impressive 95%. This light-enhanced mechanism establishes a new paradigm for efficient micro-concentration -level oxidation using H 2 O 2 , demonstrating exceptional effectiveness in eliminating trace pollutants.

Bi/Sb dual-doping forms synergistic site pairs in ZnIn 2 S 4 , switching O 2 to Yeager-type adsorption. • Yeager-type enables direct 2e - ORR, suppresses •O 2 - , and boosts H 2 O 2 selectivity. • Bi/Sb-ZIS achieves 2612.6 μmol·g⁻¹·h⁻¹ H 2 O 2 and 91.8% TC degradation for integrated purification. Photocatalytic oxygen reduction provides a sustainable route for green hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ) synthesis, yet its efficiency is often hindered by slow multi‑step electron transfer and competing side reactions. Here, we engineer the surface microenvironment of ZnIn 2 S 4 through Bi/Sb dual doping, creating spatially and electronically complementary “Bi–Sb synergistic site pairs”. These dual sites collectively steer O 2 into a Yeager adsorption configuration and promote direct one‑step 2e - reduction, shifting the dominacnt ORR mechanism from the conventional, radical-prone two-step route to a highly efficient and selective direct pathway. The optimized catalyst achieves a high H 2 O 2 production rate of 2612.6 μmol·g −1 ·h −1 in simulated antibiotic wastewater while simultaneously degrading 91.8% of tetracycline. Mechanistic studies reveal that this pathway switching originates from the synergistic electron transfer at the dual sites, which not only stabilizes the Yeager‑type adsorption conformation but also largely suppresses the formation of •O 2 - intermediates. This work provides an effective bifunctional photocatalyst for integrated “Pollutant Solutions purification–chemical synthesis” systems and establishes a general design principle for controlling multi‑electron reaction pathways through the rational construction of synergistic active sites. The direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide (DSHP) through the reaction of hydrogen and oxygen under atmospheric pressure offers a highly atom-economic and environmentally friendly approach. However, this process is hindered by low productivity and selectivity of H 2 O 2 . Inspired by the adhesive properties of mussels, we successfully developed a bimetallic nanocluster catalyst, Pd x Ni y /SiO 2 @PDA, leveraging strong metal-support interactions (SMSI) for enhanced catalytic performance. Among these, the catalyst Pd 0.7 Ni 0.3 /SiO 2 @PDA demonstrated exceptional catalytic activity, achieving H 2 O 2 productivity and selectivity of 7210.60 mmol/g Pd ·h -1 and 95.30 %, respectively—representing improvements of 319.51 % and 33.50 % over the unmodified Pd/SiO 2 catalyst (1718.84 mmol/g Pd ·h -1 and 61.80 %). The anchoring mechanism of phenolic hydroxyl and amino groups on the polydopamine (PDA) coating was systematically investigated using control groups modified with tea polyphenols (TP) and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES), rich in phenolic hydroxyl and amino groups, respectively. Characterization revealed that amino groups on the PDA layer served as the primary anchoring sites, and the phenolic hydroxyl and quinone groups play a role in optimizing the electronic structure of Pd in an electron-deficient state. Synchrotron-based X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations further revealed that the incorporation of Ni, a metal with a smaller atomic radius and lower electronegativity, reduced the Pd-Pd interatomic distance and shift the d -band center downwards from -1.72 eV to -1.94 eV. This modification inhibited the dissociative adsorption of O 2 * at Pd sites, thereby significantly enhancing H 2 O 2 productivity and selectivity.

The precise modulation of the π-conjugated bridge within a probe is of considerable importance for the development of reaction-based fluorescent probes endowed with specific functionalities. Here, a series of naphthalimide-based fluorescent probes with a fluorescence ratio and attenuated sensing properties for H2O2 have been designed by precisely tuning the type of the π-conjugated bridge located between the boric acid recognizing the moiety and the naphthalimide fluorophore. The modulation of the π-conjugated bridge species mainly focused on three structural units, thiophene, benzene, and furan, among which the thiophene helped us to construct the most efficient naphthalimide-based fluorescent probe (E)-(5-(((2-(2-mercaptoethyl)-1,3-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[de]isoquinolin-6-yl)imino)methyl)thiophen-2-yl)boronic acid (MOHB-IMTP). It demonstrated the most remarkable fluorescence changes before and after the reaction and thus a significantly superior sensing performance for H2O2, including fairly good selectivity and a lower limit of detection (LOD, 38.5 nM). In addition, based on cellulose-induced aggregation of the reaction products, the MOHB-IMTP/cellulose probe was further developed and proven to have a faster and more sensitive (4.0 nM) detection toward H2O2. We postulate that this π-conjugated bridge modulation and cellulose signal enrichment strategy will actively promote the development of high-performance fluorescent probes and sensing devices.

Marine biofouling causes significant economic losses, and conventional antifouling methods are often associated with environmental pollution. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), as a clean energy source, has gained increasing attention in recent years. Meanwhile, electrocatalytic 2e−oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) for H2O2production has received growing interest. However, the majority of current studies are conducted on acidic or alkaline electrolytes, and research on 2e−ORR in neutral NaCl solutions remains rare. Here, a bimetallic Zn-Cd zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZnCd-ZIF) is rationally designed to achieve chloride-resistant 2e−ORR catalysis under simulated seawater conditions (pH 7.5, 3.5% Cl−). Experimental results demonstrate that the ZnCd-ZIF catalyst exhibits an exceptional H2O2selectivity of 70% at 0.3 VRHE, surpassing monometallic Zn-ZIF (60%) and Cd-ZIF (50%). Notably, H2O2production reaches 120 mmol g−1in a Cl−-containing neutral electrolyte, exhibiting strong resistance to structural corrosion and Cl−poisoning. This work not only pioneers an effective strategy for designing ORR catalysts adapted to marine environments but also advances the practical implementation of seawater-based electrochemical H2O2synthesis.

Although selective oxidation of benzene to phenol (SOBP) by H2O2 is an important chemical process, overoxidation of benzene by the produced nonselective •OH during the activation of H2O2 inevitably reduces the oxidation selectivity. We, therefore, attempt to mediate the oxidation selectively by using electrophilic KHCO3 in the oxidation system. In this study, Mo–Cu/NC has been successfully synthesized via ball-milling bimetallic Mo–Cu and N-doped carbon, which exhibits high reactivity in SOBP by H2O2 and KHCO3 with a desirable phenol yield of 25.1% and selectivity of 100%. A series of characterizations and DFT calculations reveal that the reaction between H2O2 and KHCO3 produces HCO4–, which is then moderately activated on Mo1Cu2/NC via the nonradical pathway with the formation of Mo-(η2-O2) peroxo. Meanwhile, Ov at Mo1Cu2/NC facilitates the adsorption of benzene, which is then selectively oxidized by Mo-(η2-O2) peroxo to phenol via the oxygen atom transfer pathway. This study provides new insights on the importance of Mo-(η2-O2) peroxo mediated by H2O2–KHCO3 in selective oxidation of aromatic C–H bond via the nonradical pathway.

Background Antibiotic contamination in aquatic systems demands advanced oxidation solutions. This study develops a nano zero-valent iron (nZVI)-activated peroxide system to address sulfadiazine (SDZ) persistence and associated ecological risks. Methods Structural properties of nZVI were analyzed by TEM/XRD. Process parameters were optimized through Box-Behnken design. Degradation mechanisms were investigated via radical quenching experiments, HPLC-MS analysis, and acute toxicity bioassays. Significant findings The system achieved complete SDZ (20 mg L⁻¹) removal within 5 min under optimal conditions (pH 2.44, 0.12 g L⁻¹ nZVI, 0.009% H₂O₂), showing strong agreement with pseudo-first-order kinetics (k = 0.637 min ⁻¹, R²=0.998). Hydroxyl radicals dominated SDZ degradation, generating 12 transformation products through amino oxidation, hydroxylation, and sulfonamide bridge cleavage. Toxicity reduction (60–90% EC50 improvement) confirmed effective detoxification. This work establishes nZVI-driven peroxide activation as a viable strategy for antibiotic wastewater remediation.
