Transferrin (TF) is the main iron-containing protein in plasma, which not only participates in iron transport and metabolism, but also regulates respiration, cell proliferation, and the immune system. It also has protective functions such as antioxidant and antibacterial effects and has a wide range of applications in cell culture. Transferrin exists in three forms: apo-transferrin (not bound to iron ions), holo-transferrin (bound to two iron ions), and partially saturated transferrin. This product is apo-transferrin and is suitable for iron-rich culture media. Application: It can be used in animal cell culture. Transferrins are iron binding transport proteins which can bind two Fe(3+) ions in association with the binding of an anion, usually bicarbonate. It is responsible for the transport of iron from sites of absorption and heme degradation to those of storage and utilization.
