Central component of the receptor complex responsible for the recognition and translocation of cytosolically synthesized mitochondrial preproteins. Together with TOM22 functions as the transit peptide receptor at the surface of the mitochondrion outer membrane and facilitates the movement of preproteins into the TOM40 translocation pore.
Post-translational: Ubiquitinated by PRKN during mitophagy, leading to its degradation and enhancement of mitophagy. Deubiquitinated by USP30.
Recombinant Human TOMM20 Protein (rp220387) - SDS-PAGE 3 μg/lane of Recombinant Human TOMM20 Protein was resolved with SDS-PAGE under reducing (R) and non-reducing (N) conditions and visualized by Coomassie® Blue staining, showing a band at 15.1 kDa under reducing conditions and 15.1 & 29.7 kDa under non-reducing conditions. The dimer form of TOMM20 may enhance the recognition efficiency of precursor proteins by increasing binding sites (such as binding to mitochondrial-targeted signal peptides) (Uniprot: Q15388).
